There is a very informative book called "The Black Girl Curse" that covers this exact subject. Black men were falling and crawling to black women until black women completely lost their minds behind an absolute tsunami of government assistance programs in the mid 70's and early 80's that ranged from free rent and medical care to free on the job training to preferred military recruiting for minority females and since the mid 70's there has been a mass exodus away from black women.

Wow, I remember I cried when MJ's dad died in such a horrible way. Only shows how much of a strong person MJ is. He surpassed this tragedy and went on to write NBA history and forever engraved his father's family name as the synonym for basketball perfection.
