@ganesan191 The PSI is dependent completely on which one you buy. Most homeowner basic models around 3000 in my experience. Gas is slightly more common then electric, most of the electrics one I’ve seen are most useful for really gentle cleaning like car washing.
You forgot the most important thing: ALWAYS CHECK THE WIRE WHICH IS CONNECTED TO A PLUG (because with pressure washer ... a shock will kill you straight)
Thank you for posting this Video. I've learned a lot from it. I wish now I see your video before doing a job. I used the white tip for the full job. I can see the yellow tip will help me a lot on my other jobs. Again Thank you for posting it.
@PressureWashingCinci I believe the better advice might be to follow the instructions that come with the machine. Not all machines may want you to do that.
Great video BTW. Being in the military, you see these things in use all the time. I live in a really nice neighborhood but it has the darkest stains on the driveway. This was a great video to get me started on cleaning up the grime.
Good video. I never knew that the diffrent tips were used for different applications. It is just a basic thing to know. But, sometimes knowing the basics make a world of difference. Thank-you,
I was layed off work about a month ago. I went out and bought a Ridgid 3000 from Home Depot. Started marketing myself, business cards, flyers, adds on craigs list. Now I have steady income and dont even have to work as much.
That's the entrepreneurial spirit! Make sure you purchase general liability insurance in case you ruin something. It can happen quickly with this tool.
I bought the same washer as you did and love it. I bought an extension wand (24 ft)for cleaning gutters and marketed myself with flyers. I didn't get one taker after about 200 flyers. Sigh, just use it on my house and the in-laws, but would love to play with it every day. BTW, do you have a roto-blaster tip? t's the best tip there is for cleaning anything.
TIM,we hired a contractor to do the trim paint job. and workers broke the seals by powe washed, and water came into the house caused some damages.the contractor insisted that our house must had deficiencies before they washed it so they would not take any responsibility for the damages. we never had any leakage problems since 1993 until they broke the seals. i saw the worker pointed the washer directly to the joint to clean the falling paint and dust. i need help!
Ok video...but what happened to tips on how not to harm the machine? lol using these myself I know there are many ways to damage it. 2 importnat things 1. Never tilt during use as not to damage the motor (oil will shift and burn out the engine) 2. always make sure to bleed out all the air before firing up the engine (will burn up the pump).
Thank you Mr. carter for your comments and I do hope you drop by my channel (powerwashdragon) and give your opinion about my videos. First off, i have my own channel, Power washing Dragon and Painting PDP, and i love anything to do with excellent home improvements, remodeling, or any other property beautification process. I was very impressed with these simple step by step instructions laid out by Tim Carter on how to use a pressure washer. Follow these safety tips. You will not be an expert power washer overnight, but at least you wont kill yourself
Thanks for the comment. I'll stop by your channel. Hopefully you can do many power washing videos of your own to help the public. I have way too many topics to cover. Yikes!
cool video but you can wash a car with one of these very well just wash the car with soap and brush before hand to loosen dried in dirt then blast the whole car with your washer job done and yellow for your car
This is not a very good thing for the ecosystem. I love your approach of hand washing the car, but why waste gasoline to rinse it? You already have the garden hose running supplying the machine. Just use the hose only to rinse.
I just want to point out.. again.. hold the trigger down when you turn off the engine. If you don't, the back pressure can ruin the pump.
Also, don't ever touch the red tip... unless you want to cut something or somebody in half. Do not do as he did in the video with the red tip. no offense Tim, but things this dangerous should be left to professionals. (or at least don't lead people on to think you are one in this field)
Thanks for your comment. I'm confused. I say at the beginning the tool is dangerous. At 0:46 I insert the zero-degree tip with the tool off and gloves on. At 0:58 I tell everyone to READ the manual and follow all safety instructions. Nowhere in the video do I touch the red zero-degree tip with the tool on.
The problem is that it doesn't matter you turned the machine off because you never squeezed the trigger to relieve the pressure. Its still loaded for a final burst of spray.
Gloves won't even slow down the red tip. Just be careful changing tips, on or off. Treat all wands/guns as if they are loaded.
The red tip is better demonstrated cutting branches off trees than brick pavers.
Its also dangerous too the pump to start or stop without holding the trigger.
Are you an actor on Heros? Do you have some super power us mere mortals don't possess? How in the world would you know watching this video whether or not the trigger was squeezed? Do you think it's possible we shot the B-roll shots of changing the tips when the machine was *off* and not bothering the videographer? Once again, I urge you to watch the video again where I begged the viewers to read and follow all safety instructions in the video.
My eyes can cut through b.s like a red tip does fingers after watching one of your videos.
People wouldn't need the safety manual if you renamed your video "what not to do".
Look Tim, if people do what you did in the video they will damage their pump and leave the gun dangerous. I'm here to give helpful advice, why are you here?
Ahh, I misunderstood you. Your previous comments made it seem that I was making a mistake changing the different tips. You're correct about not releasing the trigger at that time. I don't use one for that purpose. I've tried to do it on many occasions in the winter at the self-clean car washes and the tools *never* get the car clean. There's always a thin layer of dirt it can't remove. If you want a clean car, you need to hand wash it. If you disagree and are a pressure-washer by trade, bring your machine to my office and we'll do a video of you and I washing my car. I'm curious as to why you asked this question.

Its also better for rinsing. Beyond 3000psi your hoses start breaking more, things break down faster, have to get special hoses, new tips, etc.
Tips: Hold the sprayer trigger WHILE you turn off the machine, that relieves back pressure and the pump lasts longer.. Its a loaded gun until you do, very dangerous.
Ear muffs are more dangerous than the noise. You can't hear people yelling at you, cars coming etc. Do so carefully.
Technically you can change the tip as it runs, but it can be dangerous. Tip changing after he shut down the machine in the video is worse- because the gun is still pressurized and you may not know it. Always check!
basics for what pressure washer to use for your intended purpose. Pressure removes, Flow moves. washing a loose soiled area would work better using a higher flow. removing hardened substances grease etc more pressure.
Looking to pressure wash an engine bay that is filled with heavy grease, grim, dirt, and what not. How many PSI's do you recommend to use to get the job done right? It'll be helpful too if you recommend one that will strip the paint off the surface of the bay as well, thanks
You better ask this of the folks who make them. I can tell you that car engines are very delicate, especially late model ones with all of the electronic connections, sensors, etc. For paint removal, I would use one with no less than 2,500 PSI. Use a zero or 15-degree tip at a low angle to peel the paint up.
I forgot to mention that all the motor components have been removed including the motor. An empty engine bay is all there is. No less than 2500..., so what specific brand has a good reputation? Im looking to get the most bang out of my buck, thanks!
most of the cheaper pressure washers have an axial cam type pump, and the better ones seem to have a triplex plunger pump....is it worth it to spend the extra bucks for the better pump?
Impossible for that machine to produce 5.5 gpm @2500 psi. 5.5 HP. Probably only 2.4 gpm at best. I know Tim was probably just referint to the HP. So no foul Tim. LOL
I have all sorts of brands. They all seem to be a blend of thin leather mixed with some sort of synthetic fabric. All have a Velcro flap like a golf glove to keep the glove tight on your hand. The brand in this video were Milwaukee.
Thanks! Tell your Dad to read the manual before he starts up the machine. You can burn up the pressure pump quickly if water is not flowing through the wand
You really make some great videos Tim. I'll have to show my parents this video. My dad was thinking of renting a presssure washer to clean the driveway before he sells their house.
but will it blend?
