It's funny seeing those old fashioned cans that were completely cylindrical, top to bottom, and the ring pulls that detached from the can. People often dropped the ring pull into the can after opening and I guess some of them got it caught in their throat so they were discontinued sometime in the early 80s I think, and replaced with what we have today.
@lumabi25 No that was a myth about drinking the ringpull. They got rid of them because there were millions of them lying on the ground everywhere. Those and cigarette butts everywhere.
"LOOK AT ALL THE WAYS YOU LOVE YOUR LEED" "its the shit more than faeces" It'll give ya's diabetes Was the drink of choice - of my mate keef but now i laugh at him - cos hes got no teef
Leed was bought out by Coca-cola in 1983..............from that time on it was called "Sprite" lemonade. But nothing tasted better than Leed lemonade in a glass bottle........no contamination from plastic or aluminium..............the stuff we get today is shit.
@stegatops Not entirely sure that's correct actually. My information is that Leed was always a Coca-Cola brand, regionally targeted at the antipodean market. Then in the early '80s they re-branded it as Sprite, like in the rest of the world. Only Sprite internationally is a lemon-lime flavor, whereas here it is just lemonade. What gives, Coke?? (Also, does anybody remember Big Boy lemonade...?)
@bengock2000 and we where not so self aware....like the little Aussie battler punching above its weight...loved Australia when it didn't know itself in marketing terms.
@xxoxxsmash So many great things were made in Aussieland.Buying Australian is a source of pride.Driving a Holden Torana, mowing with Victa,my TV made by AWA and drinking my Leed showed the true Aussie spirit!
I remember having it up until about 84 or so I think. We also used to have Tab here, but I'm pretty sure it was canned (pun intended) around the same time.
Leed was much nicer than most of the other lemonades at the time.
@GitarStu Not sure if you live in Australia, but here in south australia we used to have a lemonade called woodroofe's...best lemonade you could buy...they still make it today, but since they were bought out by Coke,it just doesn't taste the same.
I was born in '77 and one of my earliest memories is drinking Leed out of the green can. They used to have 2 punch-out holes in the top which were real thumb de-skinners.
I have to ask. Do you have some secret 'source' for all this vintage stuff or is it from a vast collection of taped from TV stuff you personally own? I'd pretty much forgotten about the existence of Leed lemonade!

Sprite tasted nothing like Leed. no idea why, given it was allegedly merely a re-branding.

When did they stop making Leed? I was born in '91 and have no memory of it.
SenhorBundy 2 years ago
Somewhere in the early 90s. Sprite killed it in the market.
