Now I love the game of pool more than most people, but I have to say that this movie was just terrible, and did absolutely no justice to the sport. The acting was sub-par (with the exception of Christopher Walken), the script was garbage, and most of the players in the movie couldn't even pass as decent since they don't even know how to hold the cue.

@ikbrandon First of all, never call someone else an idiot when you can't even spell the word CONCEITED correctly (also the wrong word to use). Second, if you ever saw Paul Newman in The Hustler, you would see just how great a movie about pool or billiards can be, with regard to both acting performance and believable skill. Third, the game of pool isn't that prevalent in this country relative to major league sports. I'm just saying that I enjoy it more than most people, not most pool players.

christopher walken actually made this on the first try, they werent going to film it at first they were just gunna let him practice a few times, but he told them to record it anyway and he made it. thats why johnny starts laughing and clapping at first then they cut it off really quick.

This movie has a few references to The Hustler. If you take a close look at a framed photo behind Callahan before he versus the pro (in the beginning, the one that lights the cigarette) you can see that it's actually a picture of Minnesota Fats.

Best part is, Walken wasn't sure he'd ever get the shot and they thought they'd be shooting it for a while. Just after he was taught it, he asked the director to shoot his very first practice shot. Hence his shocked reaction, and the amusement of everyone else. <3

trivia about this movie.

The lead actor, Mars Callahan, had spent his youth hustling pool. He wrote, directed, starred in and hired Chris Walken, Chaz Palmeterri and Ricky Schroder.

The cast played pool for 3 weeks before shooting and Ricky and Mars are great shots.

Mars wanted the actors to make their own shots on film.

If you watch closely, you can see very few shots where you cannot see the actor shoot it.

Mars missed this shot on the first try in filming but made it on the second try.

When I worked at a drug and alcohol rehab for teens, I made them watch this movie to learn that everything is not always as it appears in life.

Then I took them to the YMCA and made each one try this shot until they made it.

They did not even want to try it. Too hard.

You should have seen the look on their faces and the sense of accomplishment when each one of the 10 kids (boys and girls) made it!

You can do the impossible when you set your sights on the impossible.........

this trick is easy ..the way to do it is u aim for the corner and gently twist the cue when ur shotting that puts the straight spin on it so i come bak and hits the ball
