From what I could see you didn't use more than 5 layers to do this. Maybe even one layer only for the figure? And you didn't use paths or selection tools either; only brush tools and maybe some blurring. Is that right? If so then your technique is very close to hand painting.

Apparently, wearing a kilt and a pair of custom boots designed FOR martial artists By martial artists is "gothic" in some way. Funny thing is I have never seen an Irish Goth, or any Goth in a kilt and no Goth that I know is a professional jouster or swordsman who gets boots from the DMAA. I used to date a guy who was very much gothic and he wore kilts. He was very proud of his scottish heritage. I have also seen before other gothic men wearing kilts, so..yes. People usually have a messed up version of what "gothic" really is because they are not exposed to people who would be described as "true goths" and not just kids that wear black bands shirts and wrist bands.
