Miata crashes

I find that when the rear starts sliding out the LSD jerks the car back very violently the other way, its way unpredictable I can see myself crashing or rolling this car so easily ... MR2's are actually safer because they spin out a full 80 degrees and end up facing back almost perfectly and then they stop... The Miata will keep going forward whilst out of control and chances are that it will most likely end up like the cars in the video.  I really dont understand how people like them

@TheHeadHunter824 or you can compensate, oversteer, and drive like a boss. An mr2? Really? a mid engine? Do you have any idea how to control the short wheel-base of a miata? That's why they're drift monsters. Just don't try to slide it stock without knowing what you're doing and you won't end up like these idiots in the video. :D

@CoconutTreeClimber miatas have less tendancy to roll than most cars out there . so you gotta be eating some major &$%# to flip it . or hit a curb or ditch at some reasonable speed .. that being said a rollbar ( NOT STYLE BAR ) will make the car as safe if not safer than most normal cars

The car was actually designed to withstand a rollover even without a rollbar. The Windshield frame is structural. Though I did put a rollbar in mine a Hard Dog. But that also helped stiffen my 91 Miata up a lot.

wish i sent you a picture of mine after i hit a wall racing at the track near my town. I hit the wall at over 135 mph. had a 20b swap with twin turbos factory lsd with a 5 speed close ratio trans out of a 1997 rx7. its a shame i totaled it though it was one hell of a ride.

im soon getting a miata and im going to get the 4pt roll cage for only 300 but im also going to have my friend build another part so it makes a 6pt i dont feel safe without a roll bar! i had one in my volvo wagon "it saved my life" and now i have one in my bmw e30 and one in my moms mustang conv. a hassle getting in the car but worth it!

perhaps because miata's are light weight they are less brutal on your body and impacts then a three thousand pound plus vehicle would be. another thing is that they usually don't crash from highway speeds from a miata since it's meant for playing around in smaller corners. if you had a five point harness and a cage this thing must okay safe lol

@bingoberra18 Sure, the rollbars are first of all to impair the nice balance of the little car and then to cause brain trauma in every normal accident. Otherwise the windshield frame provides headroom under normal circumstances, like in any other roadster nowadays (the bars mounted are _mostly_ just a piece of stylish aluminium without any support whatsoever). Well, unless you hit something specifically with your head, so to say.

Nightbird, I think you are wrong. Miata is quite difficult to roll, because it is extremely low and it corners fantastically. Moreover, in the Mk3 version, roll-bars are not just for looks. I ve seen them without the plastic covers and I believe that they can offer something when the bad happens. They are not the safer choice, but you can not tell that they offer nothing in safety.

Mazda has admitted publicly that the so called "roll bars" on the latest Miata's are NOT real roll bars nor offer any rollover protection -they admit they simply added what looks like roll bars for "looks", not protection. This car is so small that it doesn't take much to make it roll, so it is shameful that Mazda won't spend a few bucks to add REAL roll bars and protect consumers. Even the hardtop model isn't much safer, as the top is made of PLASTIC! Why won't Mazda protect it's customers?!
