I'm in the Revenue Sharing Program (which is a step below the partner program) and its pretty cool, but you have to have a lot of views to make any money

Mark is a YouTube Partner and he is allowed to have Google Ads and other type of ads in his channel and videos. When people click these ads, Google gets a small amount of money for each click and gives a percentage to Mark. This is how he gets money. His videos are viewed by thousand of users and many of them click these ads. Also, he uses Ustream, where he has ads as well and the same thing happens, with Google paying him for ads clicked by users.

You have to invest a little of your own money, then once you get established you can get companies to send you out stuff for free, or reduced price. (I'm at that point right now)

After a while when you get enough subscribers and YouTube lets you become partner, then it really starts to snowball. That's where I want to be :)
