@zagon2 VHS is far from the best. The region 2 dragonboxes are tge best hands down and the VHS versions are missing a shitload of footage from the series.
I'm just gonna get both the Blu Ray levels for HD Quailty, and the DragonBox sets for collection purposes cause well the DragonBox sets are totally worth it cause it's basically the original Dragonball Z set. All they did for this was Digitally Restore it. I already have the Level 1.2 Blu Ray, and plus these are gonna take forever to get as well.
@badassrobbins123 You could always hold out for the Full Level releases. Which is what I've decided to do. There is other anime that'd I'd like to collect and I've already bought every FUNi DB release as far back as the VHS. Time to take a break. (I never bought all the orange bricks. Only got season 1.)
@Raymint Nope, even FUNimation themselves have said they used the same master they used for the Season Sets as they used for the Level Sets. Which is a 2nd-3rd generation copy.
FUNimation does not have the original negatives. Toei Animation has them locked up in a vault in Japan.
@Raymint I know what it says. It's an exaggeration. They do not have access to the original film. Only Toei does. It is however the original film to FUNimation. Meaning the original film they were given by Toei in the 90's. FUNimation themselves said they used the same master as they used for the Orange Bricks.
@Raymint Quote from Mike (VeggetoEX) @ Daizex.com:
"This year, FUNimation used the *exact same film* as the Orange Bricks (no, they did NOT get a second copy of the series on film; I had this confirmed through emails with FUNimation) to do the "Level" Blu-ray sets."
@craddle15 Then FUNimation really are full of shit - they should've done this ages ago. Not even for Blu-ray, just in general. So does that mean the colours we saw in the Dragon box are what they're meant to be?
@Raymint no they lie 4 cash they alwayssay the latest is the best but remastered kills top n bottom of screen. dragon box n kai kill the colors and the sides of it. blue ray killed the colors not as bad but still as u can see it downgrading form original just brighter standard vhs is surprisingly the best its the whole screen with oriignal colors wtf funi
I fucking hate Funimation....they are seriously milking DBZ. I'm one box away from fin the Dragon Box and this shit comes out AND they're selling Kai too. Good thing I didn't buy the Orange bricks. Also I don't get how this is restored from the original film. Wasn't that supposed to be the DB? Maybe the only difference is it's HD and in Blu-Ray and not the authentic mm film like the DB.
@DBZreviews9000 I'd personally rather have the Dragon Boxes first. Then have the option to buy Blu-Ray. Hopefully the sales from these sets will help them acquire the DBox rights to DB and GT.
@craddle15 ye only vol 2 is over 200, but i wouldnt pay $40 for any of them. i have the orange box sets and its all i need. i get the same exact show.

Will this have the original voice actors from the Ocean dub or is it still going to be like the Orange Bricks/Dragon Boxes where Sean Schemmel does voices Goku, Chris Sabat voices Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, etc.?
@Beatstylz it's not "obvious" that the blu rays are better than the dragonboxes. Itsall personal preference. I like the dragonboxes over the blue rays Any day. I think the quality is amazing.
what is the difference in the dragon box, Kai, and this? does this have the filler taken out? or is it just different because of the special features?
@Constantdoodle The Dragon Box's are the japanese version of Dragonball Z, Kai is the shorter more true to the manga series and this is the american/japanese version of the origanal Dragonball Z in blu ray I say this one beats the Box's and Kai cause this is the one I grew up watching remastered
@Constantdoodle theres also the orange bricks that are widescreen and are the american/japanese version of the orginal to so this just seems like the orange bricks but in fullscreen and blu ray
With or without NEP's it would basically still be complete. They're nice but its really nothing that needed. If you want NEP then get those Dragon Boxes. It's pretty obvious though that the quality for this bluray from watching this trailer is better than the DBoxes. And it would probably look a bit more better when watching the actual bluray on your bluray player. But only 17 episodes a set? Not much but it's still worth it i think.
@suPerrduPerrX This will not be in 4:9, do you have any idea what that would look like? It will be in 4:3. The originally aspect ration for TV shows during the time of DBZ's airing in Japan.
@suPerrduPerrX If you didn't like the Yu Yu Hakusho blu ray because it was 4:3 that proves what a massive, massive idiot you are. It was filmed in 4:3. In order to present it in 16:9, they would have to either crop the top and bottom of the screen or stretch it sideways. In other words, you're either looking at less than the whole scope of the image or everything will be over-wide and it'll look like crap. It's SUPPOSED to be 4:3, anything else would be totally unacceptable.
@rcarlson1993 they could have done it without cutting anything out, but that would mean more work. all they did was add more level of darkness to the picture and WHOA LA! YOU HAVE HD!!!! i bet you in couple of years or the next even that there will be another release of this series and that will be in clear 16:9. you can quote me on that.
@suPerrduPerrX When the original animators made DBZ, they filmed everything in 4:3. You can't change the PROPORTIONS of the film without cropping or stretching, both of which ruin the original image. Try taking a square picture and changing it into a wider rectangle without doing either. 16:9 has nothing to do with clarity/detail, it's just shape. What funi's doing is going back to the negatives (which are 4:3 and as nice as POSSIBLE) and getting a true HD transfer, not just making it "darker."
@SomeTotalRandom it iwll have us soundtrack not kai kai is did not exsit in the old days they siad this will vocie form the dragon boxs and the soundtrack for th seasons witch was us soundtrack
