  • At some point, products will be delivered through the internet, then printed on home based printers, like printing a photo of a family vacation. Kids toys, kitchen utensils, and home gadgets are all within reach now, assuming costs can be trimmed a bit FDM creates tough parts now.

  • try it with reprap

  • It's the landing you have to worry about

  • CIA money!!

  • Im gon' print me a sandwich

  • brb, printing a Ferrari

  • YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR!

  • Buy 3D printer

    Print 3D printer

    Sell 3D printer

    Earn money

  • Now print me a Mustang!

  • WE'RE A PART OF HISTORY.

  • not fully. no motor or electronics printer yet.

  • now everyone can make a spy drone!!!!

  • now print out a Boeing 747 lol. if that planes takes a week, o_o how long might boeing takes lol

  • @thenxtbillionaire Boeing and other aircraft manufacturers are already using 3d printers to manufacture parts for their planes. there are some clips of them demonstrating some parts that would be essentially impossible to build otherwise, and provide superior performance, strength and low weight. And they are also building them with 3D metal printers too.

  • This is the good side of the future. The bad side? Mass overpopulation, religious zealotry, starvation, populations on the move, armed gangs. Which will win? good or bad?

  • @beastshawnee the smartest ones with the highest levels of integrity and ability to work with others to accomplish goals.

  • Why does the presenter sound like a cholita?

  • Are you in the manufacturing industry? Kiss your career goodbye :-/

  • Southampton is actually in Hampshire...

  • Please change her. Her voice is horrible.

  • can i make money with that printer ?

  • Did they really have to make the AI afraid of heights and going fast, though?

  • @HoepRemains Fear and pain keep it alert, there's no reason to suggest there could be any problems with that solution.

  • this is just a sample of what engineers can create

  • wow

  • IT only costs only 9,000 dollars.

  • Dear Santa.....

  • Can't wait for the future!

  • @estonia123 Then you'll always wait. Sorry to disappoint you but you live in the present. Always.

  • @Vagextrol Not me....I live in the future.

  • @raywagman As of me reading something you wrote previously...you live in the past.

  • @Vagextrol Nope, future

  • @raywagman Retard

  • @Vagextrol Yup

  • @estonia123 I'm already there

  • @estonia123 The future's already here mate 0.0

  • @estonia123 8-[ ] You wanna fly on the this type planes!?

  • Quite disappointed in this video. I thought they were using a consumer grade 3d printer. (Reprap/thing-o-matic/etc)

That would have been even cooler.

  • cool!!!

  • But 2 years ago these printers being commercialized how come the New Scientist discover this as scientific nowelty?!

  • @SanfranciscoUB I'm not sure, but I think it's because they printed the engine and everything in it, printing moving parts and all.

  • Couldn't resist Spitfire shaped wings, eh?

    Brilliant work.

  • Who the fuck where tied to the plane!?

  • this is why I want a 3d printer, i build my own rc planes this is fantastic

  • SPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Now, how long til we can 3D print REAL planes?

Hit a button and churn out a 737 or something.

  • @SingularlyDatarific or.... SPACESHIPS!

    SSSSSPPPPPAAAAAACCCEEEEE!!!!!!

  • @SingularlyDatarific we're going to need a big printer and a scanner

  • guys i found an awesome website u can print 3d things its called sculpteo .com

  • Is it possible to find this design? did the publish it for the public to use?

  • Moderately interesting.

  • So i can see the future... Today we can get just about anything SOFTWARE based for free from Pirating or other ways but we can't get any physical things free. In the future everyone will have these "3D Printers" as frequent as we have computers. Sites like amazon or eBay might sell PS3 (Or any other physical objects) 3D models for us to buy then print out on our own. Piracy will over come that and we will be able to download a 3d Model file for a physical object for free. #ThefutureofPiracy >:)

  • @SC4newbie100 well there wont be any electronic stuff in it, cuz it is a plastic shell

  • @SC4newbie100 Doesn't that mean that we will be back to the past, when they only selled food and made the rest on their own?

    Sounds good to me.

  • @SC4newbie100 Oh, of course, a fucking PS3 made of paper and plastic. Great idea.

  • Certainly building your next scale model in a single afternoon is thrilling!

  • looks heavy

  • I saw one full size Wellington bomber built in 1 day

OK so it needed the incentive of a record attempt and the urgency generated by a global war (and I think some parts were prefabricated) - nevertheless

  • this bitches voice is annoying

  • The report lies. The printer didn't make the engine!! The report, early on, suggested that the whole thing is one complete item. You're fired.

I suspect the project had vibrational problems. I suspect the plane starts to fracture after a few flights due to the high frequency vibration of the engine.

  • Comment removed

  • surely you could just use a CAD machine

  • three two one launch "HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

  • im absolutely delighted

  • im.. still not sure what the point of a 3d printer is. why not just built it? It makes jobs?

  • @Ratama Unfortunately, technology removes more conventional jobs. On the bright side, jobs are made in the same process. 3d printers are a great feat in mankind, and such technology only advances us further. So in my opinion, that is the point of a 3d printer :)

  • @Ratama

People don't build planes to make jobs. They build planes to make planes. Imagine if robotics, software, fax machines and photography were never adopted because of the job losses that would occur.

With respect to the Amish and luddites, I want my damn internet cat videos. And I say the possible Skynet apocalypse is worth the risk.

  • @afivey. I agree with you. There so many neo-Luddites that comment on these videos using their computers, I find that very funny. :-D

  • @Ratama. Using your logic: Why use motor vehicles or any vehicles for that matter, just carry everything by hand? Everyone would be employed.

  • There have been a lot of mediocre videos/stories on this channel lately but THIS IS AWESOME.

  • it's nice to have a narrator again

  • make the engine with the 3d printer and ill be impressed

  • 3..2..1.. launch! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ObliviuxProductions lmao i thought someone was screaming

  • @ObliviuxProductions I first read your comment then hit play. I don't think i have laughed that hard in a very long time.

  • @ObliviuxProductions Read your comment, had no idea what you were talking about, then watched the first few seconds of the video. I was lmao haha

  • Can anyone tell me what kind of plastic powder this is? Thanks.

  • why the hell someone dislike this?

  • 2:11 The Sniper from Team fortress 2?

  • @Thunderfvck nope his brother

  • Newscientist........ You listened!!

    Waheyyyyyyyyy

  • the sound of the engine makes this plane sound very excited to be in the air.

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the lady with the voice is back!

  • @oomskaap I'm beginning to think that she is a computer. It sounds good, but not quite human.

  • Fantastic!

  • wonderful! o for the day that 3D printing will be low cost

  • I really hope that 3D printers will become a household thing some day where we can grind up our plastic bottles, download 3D models and print cool stuff. It will probably be the closest we will get to having the replicators from Star Trek.

  • Must reduce a lot of vibration and weight

  • I want one.

  • That's my uni!!

  • Hahaha "Expert remote control pilot". Sorry i'm being childish...but made me giggle

  • the narrator sounds like she is retarded

  • oh shit sandrine produced this. I didn't realise she produced these. Welcome back Sandrine, we missed you.

  • AMAAAAZZZZIIINNNGGG!

    Bravo!

  • At 11:52 he says that it is extremely toxic!!!!

  • @drdejanm I'm guessing you meant 1:52 where he said "extremely costly"

  • @drdejanm I'm guessing you meant 1:52 where he said "extremely costly"

  • @drdejanm

He clearly says it was extremely costly, how you got toxic out of that I don't know.

  • @drdejanm

    1. he says 'costly' not 'toxic'

    2. he was referring to a particular design applied to actual scale manufacturing and NOT the 3D printed model itself.

the 3d printed model is neither costly or toxic, and he proposes a new method of manufacturing which would take a previously very costly design and make it (possibly) feasible, that was his point.

  • NO! GET THE FUCK BACK TO MAKING ORGANS WITH THAT 3D PRINTER YOU FUCKTWATS NOBODY NEEDS TOY AIRPLANES!!!!!

  • Is a plane with no engine a plane? That would be at best a gilder.

  • Next up... Steel blocks, and mass produced weapons at home.

  • I want 3d printer :D

  • Love you Sandrine!!!!

  • it you would be cool if you can print the motor and electronics

  • More vids like this, full explanation in the video. This is what people want. Keep up the good work.

  • What I don't understand is that this is actually only done now. 3D printing isn't that new and the fact that you could do geometry that usually would be too expansive is nothing new to 3D printing.

  • could you please hire someone else to narrate your videos.

  • 2nd Gen: 100% of printer parts self produced

4th Gen: Fully functioning assembler module. Can assemble itself

8th Gen: Multiple materials. Can make simple robots

9th Gen: Internet software framework for common control of printers and robots

10th Gen: Integration of AI source code of all machines

12th Gen: AI source code able to permute itself and tests itself for fitness in simulation/real world tests. i.e. ability to become better. Goal = make human lives easier

15th Gen: End of human race.

  • @coolman9999uk Quote?

  • @coolman9999uk

Unless sometime around 15th gen humans become machines through neural mapping technology.

  • @coolman9999uk it s already happened, we are just cg simulations of the aforementioned machines....the narrator's voice and the way she says the word "printer" is hypnotizing....

  • @coolman9999uk "15th Gen: End of human race", why?

  • One day they'll use a 3D printer to make a 3D printer.

  • a computer/printer that can print out every part of itself is what we need, we could eliminate factories altogether

  • this is how the machines learn to self replicate -- cheap and fast --

  • @FSK1138

    We are boned you say?

  • @mordinvan not only are we boned but we are printing the d##k that bones us LOL

  • now lets print out another printer!

  • finally a video with a narrator

  • Now that, that is cool.

  • thats nice but how good is the plastic for the environment? its all good just one small plane but if this goes mainstream we need some biodegradable substance

  • @SilentDarkness2332 It doesn't have to be biodegradable if it is recycled.

  • Comment removed

  • As an artist, I am ~extremely~ interested in 3D printing. I hope it soon becomes feasible to own a personal 3D printer.

  • does anyone know how large the largest 3d printer is?

  • use a 3d printer to print 3D PRINTER

    BAM!!

  • @luckviewer777 Search for RepRap

  • @luckviewer777

    LOL.

Program it to print a new 3d printer with a random, small change to the design. Come back in 2 billion years and they'll be alive!

  • @EGarrett01 actually it is now available search RepRap

    I'm watching it right now

  • @EGarrett01 Don't forget the selection portion of evolution, the computer has to then test the new model and see if it performs better or worse than the original and only keep elements that cause it to perform better.

  • @wwickeddogg

That'll happen anyway. Any random change that happens to result in more replications will be carried on. They might not be making 3D prints in 2 billion years, but they'll be...something living.

  • @luckviewer777

    MIND BLOWN! :D

  • @luckviewer777 it's called a reprap

  • @luckviewer777 That is already being done...

  • @luckviewer777 There's already that going on, it's called Reprap i think, or something like that, (i'm too lazy to google it for you)

  • @luckviewer777 PROFIT

  • I haven't in general been very excited by the development of 3D printing, but this is exceeding my expectations. I look forward to more innovation, and hope it can be implemented on a larger scale.

  • wow. . . =)

  • 100% likes plz.

  • @spikie92 I clicked dislike. Sorry, I know it's a cool video, but I'm just an asshole. I dislike every video and I'll never stop.

  • @coolman9999uk "I clicked dislike. Sorry, I know it's a cool video, but I'm just an asshole. I dislike every video and I'll never stop."

I hear u. I have a rule - any, and i mean ANY vid that has a comment on the first page, or top comment, disparaging the free choice of others to rate it however they want, then I give it a thumbs down, even if it hurts me to do it, (and of course a thumbs up also) and Im pretty sure lots of other ppl also do this, from wat Ive noticed. cheers :)

  • @jeebersjumpincryst Ah I understand. But I'm a bit different because I dislike EVERY video, whether people make certain comments or not and whether I like the video or not. You seem like an alright guy with strong principles etc., but I'm not like that- I'm just an asshole. I'm gonna thumbs down your comment now.

  • @coolman9999uk and you think anybody gives a fuck ?? your lower standard of living doesn't affect anyone else, genius.

  • 0:53 thats not plastic power >_>

  • Help me please, i am not familiar with the topic. The printer prints the completed plane (amazing!!) or you must print the several pieces of the plane one after the other, and assembly them later (not astonishing, but still very interesting)???

  • @MarcoFriendino The last one :p

  • @MarcoFriendino Notice the white powder piles at about 0:55 - each of them contains one part. They printed them in one pass (see the huge powder pile at 0:50) but separated from each other and then put them together.

  • Sandrine's voice :))))))))))))))))

  • I like 3D-printers. Especially if the method of printing is energy teleportation.

  • can't wait to print myself out a 747 !!!

  • "made entirely with a 3D printer"... except of all the electronics, servos, wires, antennas, motors, batteries, yeah entirely out of 3D printer.

And most of the printed parts could have been cast in mold or machined, too.

  • @kasuha because that would have been easily redoable..

  • @kasuha Exactly, big caveat there. "Airframe only made entirely with a 3D printer" Still cool though.

  • @kasuha print drawings from CAD, build molds allowing for shrink/expansion then hope that mold works and the end result works as expected or print direct from CAM.

i think 3d printing speaks for itself.

  • @dasraiser 3D printing is good for things which you want to make once or a few times such as custom designs or prototypes. And eventually for things that cannot be made other ways. For mass production molding is _way_ faster and cheaper.

  • @kasuha

Not all shapes lend themselves to molding, but for simple shapes you are right.

  • @kasuha :/ duh

  • Now to wait for a rioter to loot it....

  • go southhampton university!

  • How much finishing do the flight surfaces need if any. I mean do they need a light rubdown or do they come out of the machine smooth enough?

  • v interesting re: the geodetic structure ala: Vickers Wellington

  • I did this in high school for a glider competition... So surely I was the first?

    Sorry.

  • @leejw00t354 you printed it out on 3d printer before these guys!? dont think so

  • @leejw00t354

Did you print the plane out with lasers in high school? oO

  • @TigerOfKarlstad It was a 3D printer, I'm not sure what it was called but it used a drill bit to cut out the 3d model not lasers.

  • @leejw00t354

    Pics or it didn't happen

  • @TigerOfKarlstad Ha, fair enough. I don't have pics, this was probably about 5-6 years ago now.

I remember it worked quite well but being so light it was hopeless outside.
