to do without again - in order to (significantly) reduce our (also) significant contribution to such "events," catastrophes (overseas this time, that which the U.S. sustained in this situation cannot be categorized as such?) - as that which Japan experienced? Without doubt, our "turn" will indeed come.
In forthrightness, I don't think that "tragedy" can apply to loss of material things (even very personal ones)...in contrast to loss of life - human or animal. And, I think we humans still have a real sense of disconnect with regard to our oil (and other resource)-related human activity and accelerated climate/weather-related events. Not long ago in our history, we managed to do without most everything we now think we need/want...mostly the latter. What are we willing...
People need to be aware of the very real threat of an earthquake in or near Curry County...county officials have been talking and trying to plan for years...hopefully more will be interested and the media will continue reporting the threat...it's scary. Sorrow for all involved wherever, whatever, whoever they are....
This video isn't the scary thing...it's the fact that something that happened across the pacific destroyed a few million dollars worth of boats and docks. Japan is far away...yet it hit the Oregon coast...unbelievable.
Yes, Japan is going through hell right now. The fact that tsunami waves are landing in Brookings, Oregon is scary to me because it makes me realize that this is real. I used to live near Brookings and I can't imagine how scary it would have been for me to be there when all of the earthquakes began a few days ago. Even if the waves weren't that big and did not cause nearly as much damage as it did in Japan, it's still freaky. Who knows, we could be next.
@eernyz Hey bud for the record it's FEMA, not FIMA. I do hope Brookings gets back on it's feet soon. Such a cool town and I was sorry to hear about all the damage.
if flaggot and dred would quit looking in the mirror and powdering there noses they would understand that tragic event were unfolding all over the western hemishere and just because the severity of one event to another is differnt in scope they are intertwined in the sorrow of the people that are impacted... and thank god there are people lik my brother who had the courage to film this
(continued) globe with a 32' Columbia sailboat. This is an achievement that probably only people who have accomplished great feats can fully appreciate. In losing this 42' sailboat he has lost his largest personal asset. If you really believe it is nothing, why don’t you hand $150K over to my brother to make him whole again from this loss. Talk is cheap. Tragedies come in all sizes and shapes. Think next time before you go off spewing your opinions. Don’t act so damn high and mighty!
flaggot1 I find it insulting that you make a statement like this with such seeming arrogance. You even have the video poster apologizing for his live narrative at the time of watching this unfold. He clearly is sympathetic to the loss of personal property, hard work and dreams of the boat owners. He made no comparisons to the catastrophe in Japan. A catastrophe which we all are commiserative to. The 42' sail boat being destroyed belongs to my brother. He has singlehandedly circumnavigated the
Tragedy-a dramatic composition, often in verse, dealing with a serious or somber theme, typically that of a great person destined through a flaw of character or conflict with some overpowering force, as fate or society, to downfall or destruction.
This is less of a tragedy compared to the events that took place in japan but still a tragedy none the less.
@flaggot1 ya...eernyz was not doing a comparison between what happened in Japan and what happened here...just because this wasn't as bad as what happened in Japan doesn't mean its not a tragedy...geese
The charter boat floating out behind the sail boat used to fish in our port (Westport Wa.) did you see what became of it? Good video, owning a fishing boat i feel for the owners.
Thanks for posting. I've been watching videos of the tsunami in Japan... then looking at a globe... then watching your video... and I can't get my head around the amount of power unleashed to cause this kind of damage from across the Pacific.
That is damn right flaggot, in fact EVERONE here Please Be Thankful and appreciative to have your families and Lives... Live happy Love Much, give and receive Respect... Peace... However, I understand how difficult and lame this is to occur, but really look at what in happening In Japan for cripes sake. Take care People =))
will miss seeing that sail boat. been a main stay for a long time. are or were some old boats there. thay will be missed. but wholes in the water can be replaced. life can't
Thanks for posting, Have family in that area of OR and even in Wa. Seeing this I know they're safe now. Sad though, our own gov't hates it's own people, so any aid will be delayed and brushed under the political carpet, just like the hurricane victims. No $ in it for the politicians helping their own country. We'll be helping Japan though, pays alot better in the long run, for the North Americans States dirty politicians.
thanks for this video. i am glad it wasn;t my boat, i would have done something stupid and jumped in after it i am in RI right now but i live in langlois...
thank you from my husband & I in CA. We have a small place in Brookings we're half way moved in to and love this area so much. Breaks my heart to see all the damage to the harbor/boats. As if lumber & fishing businesses are about gone, these people don't need more disaster. I'm praying for a quick recovery for all involved, especially for the people who are suffering so. Is there any chance you could do more video with a wider scope? What happened at the beach where all the RV's are parked?
thank you so much for the video. We live in Grants Pass and Brookings is near and dear to us as we spend so much time there in the summer. My heart goes out to all of you ....
