Miss you so much mom...you were the very best! I hope that more research is done on dementia so that fewer families will have to see their loved ones suffer...Linda
I went threw the same thing back in 1990 with my grandmother, and it was a very hard thing to go threw. I have to give it to you this documentation is AMAZING! The filming and editing is great and the choice of music...... Dub Housing by Pere Ubu fits so perfect. Thanks for sharing this beutiful work of art!
Your sister, Linda is a good friend & fellow yogini! We spent the afternoon 2gether yesterday and she told me how creative you are - and sent this video for my viewing pleasure ... loved it ... what a great memory [no pun intended!]
Great film! I liked very much your collages, but this is special, it is all yours! Your old woman is very expressive!!! And the way she behaves, as she was seeing everything, every time, for the first time, is great, you know what I mean? The song fits perfectly! You have your own sight about the common things of life and a critical sense of humor, in my opinion! And a kinda weird way to greet new friends...lol...love it!
Love this band first of all- and of course its really great you made a vid about this. My Grandmother has mild Alzheimer's. (onset) Your Mom looks great for her age. Awesome video. She becomes art here. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing 5***** Bless ya'll.
Mustafa, I am Joey, friend of Linda from High School. I've watched your videos for ages. And this one is the best of the best. Your Mom...wow. The best video ever. And so sensitive. You have my Five Stars.
Hi, Joey. Thanks for the comment. Linda is the one person I know who really makes an effort to maintain her long-term friendships such as yours---I think that's really cool.
Sorry you all had to go through that. I have found that there is also a very rewarding aspect to this, and it (hopefully) has taught me some important life lessons.
I watched this vid right after you posted it (was excited to see some of your surroundings and especially your mom) and I'm SURE I commented, but I don't see my comment here.
I loved this vid! Sorry the last comment didn't post. Any chance of seeing the face of Mustafa in future?
Hey, Bob. The Face of Mustafa isn't exactly something to wait around for...but you just might see the guy in a James Brown-themed vid in the coming months, though Mustafa has a bit of a procrastination issue.
I've been moving slowly toward actually putting myself in front of a camera---I'll have to work myself into the fringes of some family video, I guess. Then, of course, I'll make my big breakthrough vid...you know, the one that brings me fame and fortune! Or at least a minimal amount of hater comments.
Great video, the camera angles and perspectives, the editing, the music, all adds up to a really fine job. My wife's mom is going through exactly this condition, it's frightening and we try to do what we can to lift her spirits. Well anyway, thanks for sharing this excellent video.
I think that the use of wqhat should be commonplace, easily identifiable objects, such as the palm trees or power poles and wires, then presenting themselves in varied and confusing orientations or with details obscured helps convey a sense of confusion. As dementia progresses, what was familiar becomes distorted and unfamiliar or unrecognizeable. Very effective editing.
That's my mother in the video, and I filmed it last summer when she was 88. She has what you could term the early stages of dementia---but all in all she is doing pretty well for her age. She actually liked working on this with me, and says she'd like to do more. Thanks for sharing.
Alzheimer's is a heartbreak illness that finally took my father in laws life this past summer. It is the hardest thing to watch and worse for the person going through it. Good video. ty for sharing.

My father had dementia before he passed away at age 88. This sort of reminds me of him. Very powerful Mustafa. I love the Pere Ubu soundtrack.

Whether or not you ever put yourself in front of the camera, I'm glad you are creating your own films. Good or bad, we'll watch 'em.
Be Well.

Actually, I can think of some fun videos we could make together. Maybe I'll have my guy call your guy.
It does sort of sound a little Bitches Brewesque but it's a band called Pere Ubu, sort of an alternative group from the late 70s-80s.

Hey, thanks. Actually this is the first video I've made using footage I shot myself...but I did violate copyright with the song, I must admit.
