Flash in the pan is way to strong, with his solid short game and stellar putting also carrying him. Whether he'll be a 5+ major guy or just a solid player, time will tell. But FITP is absurd.

He should have had 3 majors by now. Last years british open had the hurricane winds which blew him out of the contention after a great opening round. He got unlucky in the masters on that last day and the field played out of their minds once they saw him losing strokes. The US open was as perfect as ive seen a tournament played aside from teh 98 tiger masters when Tiger was hitting every ball within 2-5 feet of the hole

Mcilroy rarely misses a fairway! I absolutely love Rory's form. Notice how his hips rotate so early that his pelvis is facing the target at impact. This ensures his club head and left wrist are squared to the target. I recently started emphasizing the lower body uncoil and trying to get my hips turned early, my driving game has never been more powerful or as accurate. I expect great things to come for Rory as he continues to mature as a player.

definitely a little 'heel cut' there. at impact, he hits it in the heel. you can see the clubface shut down post impact in response to the contact. golf is a game of good misses.
Even compared to pros, a guy has to have at least a functional swing to make some kind of living. Might not be the best, or "great" in comparison to the others, but I'm always amazed when people post to these comment lists and talk about how somebody "sucks" or is "terrible," or whatever. So terrible he's made millions of bucks and is ranked #78 in the world, or whatever...like, what are YOU 78th-best in the world at, you know?

@bizzman22 not really, there's tons of guys out there that have fundamentally garbage swings but the thing that separates them from the average golfer is they will find a way to get the ball in the hole around the green.. if you ever follow a pro throughout a round its not like they stick 18 shots into the green, they make a lot of the birdie putts they look at but for the most part are just incredible at getting up and down around the green.
Yes.. That is very true. Most guys/gals don't understand that.. The best pros on the circuit hit only 14.5 greens/18 in reg. There might be a 3 putt in the mix.. But the 3.5 greens they miss in reg, they will get up & down in 1/3 of them. They put the ball close to the pin with pitches, chips, bunkers. Putting is the final X factor necessary to win.
@acershund1 There are some top players, Retief Goosen, average 9-10 greens per round. Drives me crazy to think they can consistently shoot under par with that. It's all short game.
@bizzman22 Earning a living requires repetition and a great swing and a repeatable swing aren't necessarily the same thing. Furyk = repeatable, but you won't see people copying him.
@bizzman22 I'm not so sure about a great swing; certainly a very good swing. But there are many professionals who struggle to hit fairways and greens and rely on their short game. All of Mcilroys success is down to his swing which is why Mcilroy has a great swing.

If u ask me his swing isnt as impressive as in slo mo as it is in real time as i think the best part of this guys swing is the unbelievably good tempo and balance but u cant c it in slo mo.
The aweome thing about Rory's swing is how tight he keeps the right elbow into his right side on the down swing....from this position you can generate loads of power and control.

@piccalocb The reason his hip fires back like that is because he has a tendency to lock up his right knee as he's ready to strike the ball.

definitely a little 'heel cut' there. at impact, he hits it in the heel. you can see the clubface shut down post impact in response to the contact. golf is a game of good misses.

Compared to all swings, of course you're right.
Even compared to pros, a guy has to have at least a functional swing to make some kind of living. Might not be the best, or "great" in comparison to the others, but I'm always amazed when people post to these comment lists and talk about how somebody "sucks" or is "terrible," or whatever. So terrible he's made millions of bucks and is ranked #78 in the world, or whatever...like, what are YOU 78th-best in the world at, you know?

@bizzman22 Not true at all, palmer never had a great swing but he was a great golfer. It may not be pretty but it still worked and got results.

@bizzman22 not really, there's tons of guys out there that have fundamentally garbage swings but the thing that separates them from the average golfer is they will find a way to get the ball in the hole around the green.. if you ever follow a pro throughout a round its not like they stick 18 shots into the green, they make a lot of the birdie putts they look at but for the most part are just incredible at getting up and down around the green.

Yes.. That is very true. Most guys/gals don't understand that.. The best pros on the circuit hit only 14.5 greens/18 in reg. There might be a 3 putt in the mix.. But the 3.5 greens they miss in reg, they will get up & down in 1/3 of them. They put the ball close to the pin with pitches, chips, bunkers. Putting is the final X factor necessary to win.

@acershund1 There are some top players, Retief Goosen, average 9-10 greens per round. Drives me crazy to think they can consistently shoot under par with that. It's all short game.

@bizzman22 Earning a living requires repetition and a great swing and a repeatable swing aren't necessarily the same thing. Furyk = repeatable, but you won't see people copying him.

@bizzman22 I'm not so sure about a great swing; certainly a very good swing. But there are many professionals who struggle to hit fairways and greens and rely on their short game. All of Mcilroys success is down to his swing which is why Mcilroy has a great swing.

not necessarily. . . they might just be really good golfers. Being a good golfer doesn't mean you have a good swing, it just means you know how to compete and get the ball in the hole. Just like in basketball, being a good shooter doesn't make you a good basketball player.

Wonder if he hit that driver on 3 at Augusta during the tournament....It use to be you didn't see that many players use a driver on that hole, but they may have lengthened the hole since I've been there.

If u ask me his swing isnt as impressive as in slo mo as it is in real time as i think the best part of this guys swing is the unbelievably good tempo and balance but u cant c it in slo mo.
