Tess was a character that was wasted in the shuffle of P&G and CBS trying to get then head writer Doug Marland (who would be dead sometime early in the year of 1993) to whittle down the amount of characters he had on the canvas he was writing for (if you have ever seen the closing credits for the show from this time period, you would think ATWT was major motion picture & not a soap). From what I remember Tess got caught up of being falsely accused of the crimes committed by Debbie

(I can't remember last name for the character of Debbie -- but she was played by Sharon Case who is now known for the role of Sharon on "The Young & The Restless").  Debbie was insane, but no one realized it until she tried to commit suicide sometime early in the year 1993. Debbie who was younger than Hutch developed a crush on him & tried to keep all other young ladies away from him -- including Tess (she'd do things try & hurt Rosanna Cabot to -- who would also have early romance w/ Hutch).

Rich with many characters, I loved that aspect a lot. Marland could get away with it because we were seeing them 5 days a week. You might forget some of them week to week in a primetime series.
