  • Like you said.. you've been using 6 months. I've had 'em for 7 years. The point I was making with the ratchet set cult was how people can end up dehumanizing themselves for the silliest of things. I think of machines as tools... not life forms. I would compare a mac to a PC like I would compare a ratchet to a scewdriver, though. But that's about all the admiration it deserves.

Wait and see what comments you post about it in a few years..

    life forms???

See how you feel in a few years

  • I wasn't implying that life forms are the same as machines, I meant it as an analogy. Yes, I agree: machines are tools. I was just comparing the different levels of complexity. While I have only had a mac for 6 months, I've used Apple technology for 6 years, and I've been more than satisfied. Will I ever worship Steve Jobs? No, but I do have a lot of respect for his talent.

  • It will be very interesting to see what happens when Jobs departs Apple. His role has also been kind of a 'shepherd' of that technology, making those important choices of what products see the light of day. iPod, iPhone. He needs to find/groom a successor. I am wondering if the withdraw from conventions has more to do with SJ's health appearance/energy rather than 'Apple' thinking that they don't need trade shows... True, some stores have a 'theater'

but not the flagship NYC store, though.

  • Korgri:

P.S. There's no way you can compare a Mac to a ratchet set. That's like comparing a bacterium to a human; yes, they're both life forms (machines), but their complexity and potential are drastically different.

  • "to be in the presence of (mac designer)?" Look..I use macs, I like em, they are good computers cause they are easy to understand and use. But.. other mac users.. take these machines too seriously. A lot of this is the emperor's new clothes. I also use Vista.. it really ain't so bad. Americans have this bizarre obsession to "do (or be part of) something 'big' " I'm gonna start a Black & Decker Ratchet Set cult.

  • Korgi...I must disagree. I've been a Mac user for about 6 months - and I love it. I used Windows all my life. I never had a problem with it (probably because I only used it for simple tasks); however, I have to admit, I never felt this way about any of my PCs before. I think it's just something about us Mac-lovers' personalities that yields this fascination.

  • okay.. fair enough. 6 months, right? Now.. go join a mac-users-group; who even have their own acronym, 'MUG' (not too far from 'smug' in some circles) and then go to the last

Macworld and look at the people sitting in the little mac/theatre/church watching - get this- television ads. Look at their faces.. is that who you are? When I had been a user for 6 months I was enthused.. but I realized didn't worship them, or speak in tones of sepulchral awe re 'mac designers'.

  • Okay, you have a point. Anything in excess, as the way you described, is not good.
