  • there is no such an E category, only C or CE.

  • Tractor and trailer is way easier

  • i would never drive a wagon and drag no way to much hasstle and to unload must be a pain in the arse so i will stick to my tractor trailer :)

  • Is there a time limit on drawbar reversing?

  • Chillpete, great vids, but I have to ask, I know driving a C + E is about as heavy as you can go liceing wise, but is there another cat for showman and circus people? I only ask because your an instructor, and someone possed this question to me.

  • If you are not sure, get out and look, it shows common sense and wont fail you, did you notice tho that the driver went over the white line at the start. An examiner knows by instinct if the driver is good or not.

  • Don't know what your driving or where your from, but if you live around here agency pay is around £9 - £12 per hour plus time and a half after 8 hours. A lot more that that for weekends. Loads and loads of work available too.

  • Thought to let newbies know the wage is hardly worth the bother of learning to drive l.g.v.s nowadays. I drive busses now just because I live near a bus firm.During school hols. I do agency work in lorries but for between £ 5.50 and£7.00is it worth the trouble.

  • Interesting, alamcculloch. So bus driving pays more than lorry driving as a rule?

  • As far as I know there is no requirement to leave the cab during the actual test. What about having better mannered discussions on the board.

  • There is no requirement to leave the cab on test, but if you miss the box on the ground because you did not get out and look you would be upset about failing and having to pay again. I also agree about better mannered discussions on the board but when you have someone who has no idea about the job telling someone who has done the job for over 25 years how to do things and that you are wrong, it gets up your nose a little

  • Could you please tell me what i all need to do in order to start my training im finding the DVLA site a bit vague on such information. Do i need a provisional and medical then book some lessons. Cheers

  • engine running public highway affence, engine running private land not affence.i passed hgv 1 20 years ago now i am a plasterer

  • i can assure you that the course is 6 weeks long at a cost of £6000 which my company has paid allbeit its in house

  • i can assure you that if you dont turn off the engine its a fail im in my 5th week of examiners course

  • I can assure you that on your driving test if you are checking to soo if you are in the box at the rear of the vehicle you dont need to turn the engine off, otherwise all the candidates that take the LGV test at Sheffield would fail. If you dont beleive me and you are doing the LGV examiners course (that is only 4 weeks) phone the LGV test centre at Sheffield and ask them

  • You do a lot of assuring for someone that knows nothing, have you ever been a Driving Instructor do you know anything about driving at all

  • its obvious that you know nothing about driving , for your information i have been driving since 1979 during this time i have driven buses lorries motorcycles to make you even more irate i was 3rd in the national driver of the year on 5 seperate occasions run in conjuction with the local police forces ,i therefor suggest that you go study then come back to me when you know what you are on about its people like you who give proffesional drivers a bad name ,

  • Just to help you out here, I have been an instructor of Cars, Motorcycles, Bus and Truck for over 25 years. I have been to Cardington to take the examiners exams but didn't enjoy the work so I went back to instructing.

  • So you are trying to tell me that everyone who takes there test at Sheffield LGV centre fails there test, because nobody turns the engine off when checking the rear of the vehicle, this is regardless of which driving school pupil is taking the test, or which examiner is conducting the test. Dont you think that someone would have said something by now if all the candidates failed for the same thing. Sorry you came third in some two bit competition didnt you, so youmust know everything.

  • So if you are so right you had better phone the Senior Driving Examiers at Sheffield and Grimsby LGV Test Centre and tell them they are doing it all wrong. (I know what they will tell you to do with your comments, shove them where the sun don't shine).

  • is it not the case you failed the examiners exams just admit it

  • Please everyone, if you are taking LGV or PCV lessons DO NOT listen to people like this silly little man. Always listen to you instructor who knows there test canter and the way things should be done at that centre, they are all different so ask you instructor no idiots

  • Nope, worked as an examiner for 2 years. try again

  • infact you are allowed two shunts forward and if you get out to chek that you are in the box REMEMBER TO SWITCH OFF ENGINE IF NOT YOU FAIL

  • I know you can have 2 shunts, but you dont fail if you dont turn off the engine. Please read ALL the other posts to see why

  • it is also n offence to vehicles engine running whilst the driver is out the cab, eat that one

  • Did my C+E last week and almost messed up the reverse, all you need to remember is that you can shunt it, if you are not lined up correctly when you pass the 'b' cone just STOP and shunt forward to get into the correct positon. Good luck

  • Great vid. This is the one part about the C+E test I am bricking it about.
