For those of you saying that this game is repetitive...why don't you actually play it first? This game is hard as balls and has a combat system so interesting I have yet to find an RPG that will hold my attention. You don't "learn new moves"...you get "perks" that do behind-the-scenes stuff like increase chances for effects to activate. When you level up you get new animations...but what makes the game interesting is that the combat is deep, I'm 80 hours in and still learning tricks.
i remember i bought this game for $60 when it first came out cause it looked awesome, but when i was trying to learn the combat i kept doing what it was telling me to do but it kept saying i was not doing it right. i stayed at it for hours then finally gave up. so frustrating. fucking pissed me off cause this looked like a pretty sweet game. i have always loved tri-ace for star ocean, radiata stories, and valkyrie profile.
I loved this game so much, the characters, the setting, the story, and especially the battle system. It was tough as nails to master, but once you did, it made you feel so powerful.
@SanguisDiabolus well, it's mostly turn based. Each character has energy that he can use to either move, use items or attack. The enemy can sometimes fire at you while you're spending the energy but you can plan your moves wisely in between. Then the enemy has his own turn. The combat is quite complicated to begin with but once you've learned it, it's very easy to pull off.
anyone know of any other games that play like this? Never played this game before, haven't played too many jrpgs, but definitely interested in this and games like it

@bluematrix109 I was under the impression FF13 WOULD play like that but instead I just mashed the X button while occasionally pressing the trigger buttons to shift "paradigms" (oh, how cutely contrived is that). I wished 13 had been like this.
ff13 vs looks to be the best final fantasy to date im willing to bet that it will be the best game to come out in the past 10 years its like ff 12 meets kingdom hearts not to mention the ability to effect the cut scenes‚ real time combat, mechs, cars, ff air craft things, tanks, third person shooter elements and the coolest protaginist since cloud himself oh and this game will take place in a modern city modeled after tokyo i so the only question that remains is will u buy it.
@Setsuei18 It's interesting that you say that. Most people I know would agree with you. In saying that - Hironobu Sakaguchi, the man who created Final Fantasy, left Square after he created FFX2. And after that point... Final Fantasy games went downhill fast. So it would seem that one man made all the difference.

FF12's storyline is not at all interesting, lack of character development and memorable scenes. "Too much politics" is the perfect phrase to describe it. While FF13 focuses heavily on its character emotions, which are good but the overall storyline is rather mediocre. By the end of that game you'd go, "Huh, that's it?" The transformation theme doesn't suit FF.
@darkstylezvideo Well, seeing as I've never once played the game myself the combat in this video looks quite cinematic, matching the combat within Legend of Dragoon. From what I can see in the video it looks like an enemy is targeted while a series of combos are executed to deal damage, which matches the combat style in Legend of Dragoon. So from never playing the game, and watching this video I have gathered that it appears to look like Legend of Dragoon. Each person has their own perspective.

@Huitzilo10 its been a while since i played this game, and i didn't actually get that far either ( about 6 hours) but from what i remember, if you stood there and didn't move and jump into the air like that, your characters would be sitting ducks and die easily.

I love this game. Decent difficulty, good battle system, awesome weapon custumization (would only be better if you could actually see the attachments in battle). Seriously, a pistol with 5 scopes and four barrels just screams awesome.

This game doesn't get that much attention that it "deserves" compared to the FF series, even if RoF \may\ be better. It's okay in a way because that would result to it being not that overrated. But that could also lessen the chance of it having a sequel.

@SuzakiHartz k so i did the tutorial got to chapter six got infinite money and have not felt like this game was too difficult the entire way i know this make me sound like an ass but all you need is the tutorial(like you said) and a little brain power and this game is easy as cake and pie and any other kind of desert

Yeah because an amazing AI will allow me to run up on it and continue running into it until my crappily designed 2-way collision kicks in and my character executes a fail looking half gainer with a twist whilst shooting a gun with absolutely no recoil..... This game graphics are sub-par, its story is complete tripe, the battle system is an even worse version of FF12. But that is ok At least I am still able to punch someone in the face sending them flying aloowing for a backflip shotgun attack...
You can kind of say that, although it take some strategy as well. You have to position yourself on the battlefield, use tactics in order to win, etc. Awesome game though!
i feel this game would have sold better if instead of guns they used magic spells since that is the bulk of jrpgs, yes sounds generic but i feel it would have been more fitting imo
I haven't played this game in a while. But can somebody help me out. Everythime I try to peform a tri attack (hero attack) it fails. (I play it on the PS3) and when I go into tri attack and press R1 eventually. It just refuses to change characters! Pisses me off. In other words I don't understand how I should perform a succesfull tri attack. I know I did it in the past. But somehow I'm not able or dunno HOW I did it anymore. And could really use some help on this x] I love the game.
oh... i get it... it's one of thos japanese games which give you epilepsy unless you stand a mile and a half from the tv screen, resting 1 hour for every 15 minutes you play.
the "roaming in towns" view has fixed camera positions which is dissapointing, but the detail of the graphics is good, i just didnt feel that it really got me immersed in the game since there is only a couple screens of "town"... and theres only really 3 areas of "civilisation".
Prehaps alot of these things are "pet hate" things that have only really emerged through 70+ hours of play, obviously with this lifetime i would still reccomend this game to any RPG fans because it really is THAT unique
The world map is unique.. i will give it that, however the lift system will drive you insane by about chapter 10... having to cut into the different screen for the "core lifts" drags travel time out... Travelling down to the lower levels becomes increacingly tedious becuase of this. Also, having a pointer for your person on the world map was a major downer...but i dont know how they could have got round that with thier map system. I was also a lil disapointed at the lack of roaming inside towns
having bought this game i am now im 73 hours in, completed the game at about 66 hours in and now im playing newgame+ to pick up the achievments i missed...the storyline was lacking in explanation and depth, and seemed squeezed out, but if anything this kept me playing. If your looking for awesome CGI's, this isnt the game for you... watch the intros online then find another game cause there arnt anymore in the game... however the battle system is indeed great! grinding 500 battles in arena tho..
Trully sad That FF 13 is a let down for hardcore RPG funs and of course FF fans . A game for no skill noobs 13 year olds , and stupid americans only plaing football and shoot em up taht is what ff 13 is . On the other hand thank god There are some rpgs like this that are real RPGS . This game is awosome like the other j rpg titles of ps3 , and x box.
Trust me, first i was skeptic about this Game, but i gave it a try and its stunning.
There are dungeons, difficult Boss Fights, Weapon Customization, Dual Wielding, Arena to fight Battles which get more and more difficult, Shops to buy Items to Customize Weapons and more.
I can say that since i played it at least 25+ Hours and im not even done since this Game can rack up 50+ Hours if you do ANYTHING that can be done in this Game.

the video sucks. the gameplay is good for me though. it looks boring if you just look at it but you'll do the work when you're actually playing it. i personally think that valkyrie profile 2 is better thought. and advice, this game isn't really action, more on RPG and strategy. people that just loves action games like mw2 or halo won't like this game. don't buy it

Yeah because an amazing AI will allow me to run up on it and continue running into it until my crappily designed 2-way collision kicks in and my character executes a fail looking half gainer with a twist whilst shooting a gun with absolutely no recoil..... This game graphics are sub-par, its story is complete tripe, the battle system is an even worse version of FF12. But that is ok At least I am still able to punch someone in the face sending them flying aloowing for a backflip shotgun attack...

I haven't played this game in a while. But can somebody help me out. Everythime I try to peform a tri attack (hero attack) it fails. (I play it on the PS3) and when I go into tri attack and press R1 eventually. It just refuses to change characters! Pisses me off. In other words I don't understand how I should perform a succesfull tri attack. I know I did it in the past. But somehow I'm not able or dunno HOW I did it anymore. And could really use some help on this x] I love the game.

the "roaming in towns" view has fixed camera positions which is dissapointing, but the detail of the graphics is good, i just didnt feel that it really got me immersed in the game since there is only a couple screens of "town"... and theres only really 3 areas of "civilisation".
Prehaps alot of these things are "pet hate" things that have only really emerged through 70+ hours of play, obviously with this lifetime i would still reccomend this game to any RPG fans because it really is THAT unique

The world map is unique.. i will give it that, however the lift system will drive you insane by about chapter 10... having to cut into the different screen for the "core lifts" drags travel time out... Travelling down to the lower levels becomes increacingly tedious becuase of this. Also, having a pointer for your person on the world map was a major downer...but i dont know how they could have got round that with thier map system. I was also a lil disapointed at the lack of roaming inside towns

having bought this game i am now im 73 hours in, completed the game at about 66 hours in and now im playing newgame+ to pick up the achievments i missed...the storyline was lacking in explanation and depth, and seemed squeezed out, but if anything this kept me playing. If your looking for awesome CGI's, this isnt the game for you... watch the intros online then find another game cause there arnt anymore in the game... however the battle system is indeed great! grinding 500 battles in arena tho..

Trully sad That FF 13 is a let down for hardcore RPG funs and of course FF fans . Trust me, first i was skeptic about this Game, but i gave it a try and its stunning.
There are dungeons, difficult Boss Fights, Weapon Customization, Dual Wielding, Arena to fight Battles which get more and more difficult, Shops to buy Items to Customize Weapons and more.
I can say that since i played it at least 25+ Hours and im not even done since this Game can rack up 50+ Hours if you do ANYTHING that can be done in this Game.
