i bought a butterfly fish and it died 2 weeks later and im not sure y i think it might have been stressed from the filter or clogged with shrimp. I do have a green spotted puffer but he doesnt do anything to other fish ( except nip fins ) but he had his fins ( mostly ) does anyone know the possible cause of death

You need live crickets half a inch to keep him alive for a long time. That food is so bad he will get sick and die slowly. I have 2 female butterfly's

If yours gets bigger, try feeding it crickets. Also, feed live bloodworm rather than frozen.

yeah, they prefer live bloodworms. If it doesn't eat, try it on flake. Don't get into the habit of making that its staple food though

I'm not saying you should NEVER feed your fish flake food but why would you put up a video of a insectivore eating herbivore food? It implies that you think this is the 'proper' diet for a butterfly fish.

Anyways try tying a cricket to a string and hanging it above the tank w/ an open top. He should jump and catch the food if it's pretty close to the surface. Becareful though they CAN jump out of the tank quite easily. They're wild jumpers!

umm. the first chalenge... tying a cricket to a string. LOL. either 1) you can't get it tight enough to not squish it or 2) it will flail, crawl, and bite too much if you can even get it still.

well of course, you could freeze it for a minute in the ice box but then why would you need a string?? wait... why DO you need the string ? wtf

it's not easy as throwing flake in the tank but it' spretty fuckin easy... you tie a knot but you don't tighten it, hold one end of the string with 2 fingers and the other end with your index and thumb, hold the cricket midway , pull the ends of the string apart (like using chopsticks) and catch the cricket in the knot

Actually i now advice against doing this as the cricket doesn't always rip off. I do it sometimes up high for my archer fish and he spits at it.

yes, u could put all of those fish together. it depends on the tank size though, i have a 75 gallon tank and have an oscar, fire eel and a butterfly fish. i also have many other types of fish. mine are fine 2 gether.

i think that depends on the size of both your butterfly and the tiger barbs. Mine is tiny but it ate most of my neon tetras (i had about 15 and now im down to three :/)

AFRICAN BUTTERFLY FISH ARE A STILLWATER FISH. DON'T LET OTHER PEOPLE TELL YOU OTHERWISE. THEY WILL SUFFER AND LIVE SHORTENED LIVES IN MOVING WATERS.

Angelfish do PREFER slow moving waters but they like to eat a LOT so I like to keep mine in a 3x overfiltered tank. The butterfly ONLY hangs out behind the filters when they are on so I turn 1 off during the day, otherwise I NEVER see him and can't feed him

I bought 2 of them for 19$ each. They are realy cool but I think you should feed him crickets, mine had a realy hard time finding tiny pelets and flake food he got realy skinny. That is untill I started feeding him frozen and a few live crickets every week.

I had a bucholzi too. I fed it live crickets and I swear that thing was like a miniature white shark. FYI they are calm-water fish and they seem to use the tips of their fins to help detect waves from struggling insects.... their main source of food. Try to muffle the ripples from any filters and then drop a live cricket in there, and you will see the true meaning of fierce predator. :)
