@issyissy14 sugarcraft supply stores....search online for suppliers in your area. I use Regalice in the UK. Overseas I use Satin Ice, Pettinice or Wilton...but there are many brands.
@CMOODO well...not 107,441 comments sure enough, but it takes me so long to get around to answering them I'm pretty glad there's only a few. Sugarcraft stores and online shops store fondant...to answer your question the quickest I've answered any!
hi, love your videos, excellent. i have a question, how long can you keep the made up modelling paste in the plastic bag if not using all on the same day? thank you. K.
Hello! I'm new to all this cake decorating and sugar modelling (I've done a few bits) and was wondering once made, is this as good as Squires Kitchen sugar flower paste (that's already ready made)? If it is, then it might save me a few pennies as it's cheaper to do it this way. Thanks for any help in advance. Amanda xx (I'm in the UK)
@mumbray this is how to make modelling paste, not flower paste so they're not the same thing. I buy ready make flower paste, Squires, for the few things I use it for. I wouldn't use modelling paste for making the kind of flowers that the flower paste is intended for. You can mix flower paste and sugarpaste together (50:50) to make modelling paste too but it isn't my preference and as you point out...too expensive!
RThis was very hlpeful in what i had to look for when makeing fondant decorations, but i have a problem. I am going to enter a set of cupcakes with a theme, with fondant decorations for the royal melbourne show in Australia this year, but i can't seem to find fondant paste, or any of thwe materials u use in this anywhere! I've always wanted to decoratwe cakes as good as this, but i can't find the materials to help me. Would you know what kind of shops i could look in? please help! :)
@stuntsquiral1 I can only suggest you search online. I use Regalice in the UK but I have used Satin Ice and Pettinice when I teach overseas. Pettinice takes the same amount of CMC or Tylopur (both the same thing) as I use for Regalice.
When you store the modeling icing, do you have to keep it refrigerated or do you just leave it wrapped up in a cupboard? also.. How long should the sugar paste normally last for once opened? Thankyou
@MsBettina89 never in the fridge...keep it stored in the self sealing bags and in a cool, dry area as you said. The paste has a sell by date on the packet which is very long indeed so I tend to not choose the packs that only have a month or so to go as it will have been on the shelves for many months prior.
Thanks for making this video I dont think I would of gone far with out this, you have helped me a lot :) when I make mine and store it, it dries hard I know but when I work with it crumbles in my hands and takes a lots of work to get to normal constancy is this normal?
@missfuncakes yes....you have to be patient and work with it to soften and prepare. Sometimes the crumbs are so solid that I do throw it away but not often if I have stored it properly. The longer you store the modelling paste the harder it becomes but if the pieces are a decent size, it takes more effort to bring it back to life but it can be done. Try not to make too much up in advance.
@Tessy010982 You're not turning it into gumpaste....it's modelling paste and not the same thing. No you shouldn't need to add more cmc but if you are colouring a huge amount of fondant then colour it first, weigh it and then add the cmc.
@alemedindapaniahua you can store the paste for months if kept in the right conditions. Personally I just make up what I need for the 2 weeks ahead so that it doesn't get so solid that it takes a lot of effort to bring it back to a pliable state.
Just a note so someone else doesn't make the same mistake I did. I assumed sugar paste meant gum paste, so I used this treatment on my gum paste. OOPS! nope. I was later told that this is what you do to fondant to make it act like gum paste.
@scrapnchat yes it acts like gumpaste but it is more pliable and doesn't dry so quickly allowing you more time to play. Gumpaste is best for flowers and not modelling...but that's my opinion and not fact. It's entirely up to you to find what is best for you.
@supahstar25 Personally I wouldn't use MMF for the kind of modelling I do as I find it still too soft. But you can model with it, many people do so yes, the addition of Tylopur applies. I don't make MMF so the amount of gum powder required would be something you'd have to judge for yourself.
Very nice video! Did you mention how long the modeling paste will last? Will it keep in a dark pantry for several months or does it need to be refrigerated?
Hi Aine2, thanks for posting your videos, informative and much appreciated, I'm making a cake for a friend and was wondering if I could ask you question, I have the fondant ( Regal Ice) am awaiting my tylos powder delivery, but my question is once adding the tylos powder is the fondant paste edible? Reason for asking this is because alot of people say gumpaste is'nt really edible, will adding the tylos powder alter the fondant to a non edible substance, thanks mrsquabb.x
@mrsquabb1 yes it's edible....don't confuse gumpaste with modelling paste, they're not the same. Gumpaste is like our Flower Paste in the UK and although it can be eaten, not many people would. Modelling paste can be eaten, but nobody wants to eat the beautiful models!
@alice02022006 No I'm not using gum tragacanth. Tylopur can be added to your paste and used immediately. Gum trag needs to be left in the paste 12 hours to take effect and it's not preferable for modelling....good for making flower paste though.
I have a question about using marshmallow fondat. I make it myself and it taste much better than store bought. I was wondering if I could add the tylose powder to it. I have loved watching your videos and making stuff as I watch them. I have made your puppy and teddy bear so far, and a chair that Mylan made on her site and also the bumble bee's. She said to make sure and check your site out and I did I just have to say that you have amazing talent. Dinieby
@dinieby I personally wouldn't use home made fondant to make the king of figures I do as I find it isn't strong enough even with the tylopur added. Home made MMF is good for the smaller models like the puppies and teddies but not for figures, not by me in any case. People don't normally eat the figure models so don't worry about the taste. Regalice is actually quite nice, there are only a few brands that don't get a good write up.
I don't know of cellogen so I'm not qualified to answer that one I'm afraid. It may well be another name for the same product that I use but I wouldn't like to say so and have it not work for you. I'm sorry I'm not much help to you on this one. :o(

You are a sweetheart. Thank you so much for your help. I did buy your guide - the one with the baby on the blanket. Uggh, I just cannot get it. I need to see something being made. Your tips on YOUTUBE are just what I need. I thank you for providing to all of us who must "see" something being made.
Thank you so much for your tips. I'm just a beginner and was finding fondant difficult to work with for modelling. Your instructions including how much powder to add are very helpful.
hi loraine, i sometimes put a bit more in if im making something that i want to dry solid. immaking a poker cake tomorrow so i'll be making cards for it and using lots of cmc powder haha
Hi Tammy! Try using Petal paste or pastillage for your cards. They will keep their shape better as they will be rolled paper thin. Modelling paste will "wilt" after a while whereas the other pastes will remain strong.
The green board is made by Orchard Products. If you search online for "sugarcraft green board" then you should find suppliers. There are various sizes.

It's really important to sift your powdered (confectioner's) sugar before using it. That got rid of my "bump problem" as well.
