There is no wrong or right chord..As far as I'm concerned, he's mainrtained the rhythm for most part of the song..So it's kind okay..And also, he's trying this on his own..So full credit to him..You'll definitely get better in course of time.. :-)

A song can be played in any different scales..there' s no right or wrong there...the trick is to switch to a scale that compliments the pitch of your voice...however the original songs seems to be in the scale of F major.
