It's absolutely stunning that somewhere, in far north there is a country, culture of which isn't contaminated by shallow, narrow and suffocating "european" one. Pure, humble, fresh... I can nearly feel the crystal clear mountain dew and wind, blowing right into my face. Fantastic track!
The first time I heard this, I was in bed with the lights off and my eyes were closed. It was absolutely terrifying and thrilling. This band... they are something else.
This is nice, but I would highly recommend that people look to A Saucerful of Secrets from Live at Pompeii or the album version by Pink Floyd to hear how people were touching on a very similar emotional spectrum about four decades ago. I’m not suggesting that anything is superior to anything else, I just wonder how many people realize that slow progression oriented atmospheric rock music is not a recent phenomenon.
Anyone else been in attendence for a performance of this song? Suspended with the music travelling through you like pissed off spears thrown by cupid. Pretty much inarguably the greatest sensation a spirit can experience.
They have something special and that is for sure... I think I will never quite define wha it is and I don't really care, as well as I don't care not being able to understand that vonlenska language of Jonsi... it is like BackWoodsPuppy sais, it's music that you can easily feel, not "understand". It points to your emotions and your soul.
Absolutely beautiful this live performance. Can't believe it has taken me this long to seek it out. This is easily my favourite song I have ever heard.
Btw. Is he welling up at beginning when he's singing? I wouldn't blame him, this is an emotional epic.
@MyCatLikesYourCat Good news for you: EITS are going to play at Vancouver on september 9th!
About Sigur Rós, I know they came before (Ottawa, Montréal, Toronto, I don't know if on BC) and I HOPE once they finish their "go fishing for a while" (as their website said about future tours) they'll come. If they come that will be a dream come true.
There are no future tour dates by now on their website, but I hope they will. I hope they'll come to the ottawa area or to montréal. Where in canada are you?
Wouldnt be suprised if you can brainwash people with this song, after seeing this live i needed at least 15 minutes to get my mind straight again, my mind was literally blown away.
I sigur ros però adesso hanno rotto i coglioni... sono ripetitivi e si prendono troppo sul serio... problema che hanno tutti gli pseudoartisti islandesi bjork in primis che ha rotto la minchia ormai.
Saw a version of this life on their Takk tour...TWICE, Chicago and Indy. It was surreal, beautiful, and at times ominously frightening...but god damn was it music at its finest.
I'm so thrilled that there's not a single negative comment as far as I can find on this song. There are so many bitch wars on so many songs on Youtube and the fact that there isn't one on this song makes me so very happy.
this is either the musical score to the big bang or the end of the world you choose i know it feels like that there is nothing left after you see it live
I showed this to my parents when I came home having seen them live. They weren't impressed, not because they didn't like the music, but because I'm epileptic! Luckily flashing lights aren't bad for me. One of the best concerts I've ever been to, and the only one I've ever been to that used water!
@Raymint During parts of Saeglopur and Untitled 8, a huge wall of water, fell between the band and the audience. It's unique, so I imagine they can't do it at many venues! I'll send you a couple of video links.
Why is two different versions of this track, on the Heima DVD and in another videos? There are others than, after like 7:00, they are images of another concert... the drummer has different sweater and everithing. Look the "Sigur Rós - Heima (2007) - Popplagið (live, ending)" video, at 2:10, now the drumeer has black t-shirt, wtf?
This version shows the song only as it was recorded at Reykjavik, whereas the other version was compiled from footage of all of their performances of the track on the Heima tour. This version can be found on the bonus disk of the special version of Heima, the other one is from the main film itself.
"... the genius of the heart from whose touch everyone walks away richer, not having received grace and surprised, not as blessed and oppressed by alien goods, but richer in himself, newer to himself than before, broken open, blown at and sounded out by a thawing wind, perhaps more unsure, tenderer, more fragile, more broken, but full of hopes that as yet have no name, full of new will and currents, full of new dissatisfaction and undertows..."
saw them live 5 years ago. this was of course their closer. the people I was with wanted to leave early to "beat the traffic." they were quite happy I made them stay and deal with the traffic later.
Ohh my God I remember being there... I'll never forget it, the sound at 6:30 .. when the change to the outro comes.. it was the most immense and thickest sound I've ever fucking heard. No video no matter the quality can ever compare to seeing them live, I highly recommend you see them live if you have the chance.. its insane.
@theundeh I BET! I always hear that moment in my head many times more awesomely, kind of almost letting out a "WHOOOOAAA" before realising I'm not actually there.
@jellecomicgek If I were on the guitar during that moment I'd be crying ... I'd have an affliction where every time I recalled that moment I'd break into big, loud tears. But If I were on those drums I'd be dead, having spent my all of my life force.
There will only ever be one band like sigur ros!! i mean think about, iceland has a population of like 300,000, all the towns are far away, in mountains, and very small! Yet 4 of the most amazing musicians ever managed to meet and create unbelievable music! What are the chances another band will be so lucky?
@Bram1610 I dont really believe that the crowd was being tough. In fact i think that they all were 'hypnotized'. Or at the very least they stood there with their jaws dropped open and overwhelmed by the beauty of this song :-)
