@bakugancollecterZ Actually, I just found out about a sequel in 2013 after 40 years of planning. Why so long? CGI failed them. Luckily, everybody in the original cast who is alive will be back.
I hope that the business industry doesn't get their hands on this movie again. They'll turn it 3D and honestly, it's really not that bad of an idea, it'd be so easy to make this a 3D movie. But EVERYTHING is 3D these days.
@freshrecordsbdalabel I got it wrong, it's the bit where Eddie is hacksawing off the cuffs (Part 5 of Apusama's UL). Still, it's the prostate/probate bit, so half right.
@Sh4d0wKat i know what you saying but they were shorts not a movie and this was the only one that had wb mgm and disney characters together and i would wanna see them all in one movie
@boricuatodabone The Roger Rabbit shorts had MGM characters like Droopy Dog and some Disney characters, like Clarabelle Cow, in keeping with the cartoon crossover nature of the movie.
Interesting that Mel Blanc voiced many of the WB characters that made him famous, as this was one his last projects before he died in 1989. Also, Charles Fleischer was also a major force in this movie. Of course, Max Fleischer, who I believe was his grandfather, was a major early competitor of both WB and Walt Disney, and created both Betty Boop [who appeared] and Popeye, not to mention that Max also did the first animated adaptation of a superhero in the 1941-'42 Superman series.
It's Bob Hoskins's sixty-ninth birthday today (Christopher Lloyd turned seventy-three last Saturday, even).
If Lady was one of the toons at the end, would Tramp be with her? Since Donald Duck appears alongside Daffy Duck and at the end, would one expect to see Scrooge McDuck from Ducktales at the end?
Pepe le Pew not appearing at all could be because of the smell he'd give, and Taz is possibly missing because he'd still be his aggressive self.
@shermanvermin76 Hi. I think that Pepe did not appear because he was first seen (slightly different) in 1945, and this movie takes place in 1940. I may not have examined the movie correctly, but I think that some of the characters we know today may not be seen because they have not been invented yet in cartoon history. That is why Scrooge McDuck and Taz would not be seen because they were introduced after the year 1940.
Okay,, so my observations: s story of a maniacle nazi skinhead with tyrannical authority. Where those effected are native americans, redheads and brunettes in oppression. The biggest part was that it all was surrounded with Nazi propaganda. Intense.
There's one big problem with this movie: none of the characters came from cartoons done in this style. WB and Disney are both artistic-style cartoons, and this was done in the kinetic style pioneered by MGM with Tom and Jerry. You don't see this type of frantic action in Disney or WB. Not even road runner, whose action is laid-back, not dynamic. Woody Woodpecker's cameo at the end was sad - he was the only one that belonged in a cartoon like this.
@Digitalsp33r ok, I guess Droopy cartoons are kind of dynamic. But Droopy himself is a counterpoint to the style, and the contrast enhances it. Droopy can be in this movie.
@negrophiliac Don't worry the sequel is being written by the same writers who wrote the first movie "Who framed Roger Rabbit" I read it on Wikipedia on the Robert Zemeckis the director of "Who framed Roger Rabbit" page.
Even when I was a kid, I always loved the orchestral music that plays once the end credits roll. I don't know why. There's just something about it that seems to emphasize the fact that you've just been through an amazing cinamatic experience and now it's over.
And that to me is the power of Roger Rabbit; once it starts, you never want it to end.
Also, Roger Rabbit himself was retooled into a cameo for Tiny Toons, yet was only seen in an arm shot wherein a replica voice over was heard & his costumed colors were changed due to licensing. As for Disney, they used Roger as a walk-around character until the 90s, yet the ride based on his movie--where one relives it whilst riding a vehicle modeled after Benny the Cab--remains at Disneyland to this day, nevermind that the character & TV series of Bonkers D. Bobcat used Roger as inspiration.
In fact, both sets of classic WB toons were the template for The Warners in the 90s, since Tiny Toons--Animanics' sister show--had both sets of classic WB toons appear, yet Bosko & Honey in their modern forms more closely resembled The Warners in style than the Two-Tone Trio (Foxy & Roxy with Goopy Geer, that is) did, despite the latter being a trio. Yet, it was the trio's comedic timing & slapstick that had The Warners replicate & modernize classic WB humor.
An adendum: First WB characters Bosko & Honey were modeled from Oswald (i.e. using black stereotypes), but were replaced by Foxy & Roxy--a fox couple that was the WB answer to Disney's Mickey & Minnie--who were themselves given a character named Goopy Geer that would inspire Disney to create Dippy Dawg/Goofy. So basically, in the old days, rival companies often borrowed from each other moreso than they have recently, but as references & crossover voice actors have shown, they still do.
Taken from WB's Foxy & Roxy shorts, which were WB's answer to Mickey & Minnie being a success at Disney, AFTER Ub Iwerks & Carl Starling (chief musical composer for classic WB, whom Richard Stone tried replicating in the 90s with the Silver Age Kids' WB shows, which were produced--just as this movie was--thanks to Steven Speilberg) went to the fledging WB due to financial problems at Disney, also basically ripping Oswald from Walt in the process!
@protonhawk123 If a guy with the name of Steven Spielberg calls you up asking to use your characters for a movie made in the style of a film noir with the promise that doing so will make you a lot of money, are you going to say no?
One of the things Ive noticed is that recalling back to when I saw this as a child your mind really does block out words which you are not old enough to know about yet
@Riceball512: Touchstone is A PART OF Disney, just as MGM, Hanna-Barbara, & Fliesher Studios EVENTUALLY became a part of WB & WB OWNS DC, just as Disney now OWNS Marvel, which is ronic, since just like Roger Rabbit gave us both Disney & WB characters, DC & Marvel put together the New Teen Titans (the ones from the Marv Wolfman 80's era that INSPIRED the 2003-2006 pseudo anime series) & the X-Men!
A best idea for toon crossover. And I am hoping all animations and cartoons of comedy from all studios over the world will join and make the best celebration of all times.
@kansasXcityXstealth hehe, yeah...young kids arent really going to be scarred by the words "sex" or "hell" or "damn"...they prob wont even know what those words mean. They WILL be enthralled by the wacky antics of the toons though...esp when there interacting so inexplicably with real people. When your a kid, your really a lot more resilient then a lot of moral guardians would like to believe...
then, why in the hell are you saying that this film has bleeps when so many other movies have them, too?
and sure,it has alchohol and cigerettes, but for such a short time that is not enough to make it an innepropiet movie for kids'. and show me the one who's named 'smart ass',please. and disney toons are abvousely shown, why the fuc# not?
Zemeckis? as in the same guy that made all those cg movies where the characters were modeled around actual actors....INSTEAD OF JUST USING THE ACTORS!?
No offense to fans of his work, but not all family movies have to be animated! Just look at The Neverending Story! THAT MOVIE KICKS ASS!
@JRodHacker - I agree completely about The Neverending Story... as long as you're talking about the first one only. The second one was really bad, IMHO.
@dudecicero Dude, part 3 was so bad, it makes 2 look half way decent. Just watch the nostalgia critic review...if you are willing to risk your childhood memories!
@JRodHacker - Yes, there is actually a third part! Man, I remember it now. It is so bad I forgot it existed! It looked like it was inspired by a guy on acid who liked Sesame Street a bit too much.
Tom and Jerry aren't in this movie is because they are neither Disney or Waner Bros...they are Hanna Barbara, different company. Apart from that thanks for the upload!! Haven't seen this movie in almost 10 years! LOVE IT!
@Bookfreak07 That's not the reason, there's a lot of toons that aren't Disney's or Warner's in this movie. Tom and Jerry were MGM's characters at the time (now they're pratically WB). The major let Zemeckis use Droopy Dog but not them for unexplained reasons
Sometimes I wonder why Kathleen Turner ( the speaking voice of Jessica Rabbit ) wasn't credited for her role in the film ?
And Spielberg's wife at the time ( Amy Irving ) was perfect for Jessica's singing voice. Hell, I didn't even know that Irving could sing like that.
But the movie was an excellent tip of the hat to several films from the late 40's & 50's that combined animation with live action, most notably MGM, who used Tom & Jerry with Gene Kelly in one of their musicals.....
I can watch this movie 3 dozen times and never get tired of it. I love the early live action films that they did back in the day. I hate the ones they are doing now. By the way do you have the movie COOL WORLD??
GREAT MOVIE! Lots of of fun and laughs "Wouldn't you know locked".....LOL! I saw this movie in a double feature (remember those) it played with "The Karate Kid Part 3" it still brings out the kid in me LOVE IT!!!
This movie is the BOMB! I mean how many times do you see Donald and Daffy in a piano duet?(Er, battle XD ) How many times do you actually see Mickey and Bugs together?? What's even better is that theyre skydiving!! =D This movie is EPIC! The best of the best toons unite!!
Man this is one of the best movies ever! I remember watching it in the theater when it came out, I hope they never try to redo it or make a sequel, it would never live up to this!
@Matty5122 Well, it seems that in this version Roger is actually pretty popular. Remember that in part two Betty Boop actually calls JESSICA is the lucky one.
@Matty5122 there was supposed to be a prequel to this movie called Who Discovered Roger Rabbit it involved something about Roger saving Jessica from the Nazis or something but (perhaps thankfully) it was never made PS it turns out Roger is Bugs Bunny's son
Now that my curiosity has been satisfied, I can actually say I really like the idea of the combination of styles, as well as the brilliant execution.

Zemeckis? as in the same guy that made all those cg movies where the characters were modeled around actual actors....INSTEAD OF JUST USING THE ACTORS!?
No offense to fans of his work, but not all family movies have to be animated! Just look at The Neverending Story! THAT MOVIE KICKS ASS!
JRodHacker 9 months ago
@JRodHacker - I agree completely about The Neverending Story... as long as you're talking about the first one only. The second one was really bad, IMHO.
dudecicero 8 months ago
@dudecicero Dude, part 3 was so bad, it makes 2 look half way decent. Just watch the nostalgia critic review...if you are willing to risk your childhood memories!
JRodHacker 8 months ago
@JRodHacker - Yes, there is actually a third part! Man, I remember it now. It is so bad I forgot it existed! It looked like it was inspired by a guy on acid who liked Sesame Street a bit too much.
dudecicero 8 months ago
@dudecicero - Err, sorry, I meant to say "it looked like it was devised by a guy..."

Tom and Jerry aren't in this movie is because they are neither Disney or Waner Bros...they are Hanna Barbara, different company. Apart from that thanks for the upload!! Haven't seen this movie in almost 10 years! LOVE IT!
Bookfreak07 9 months ago 4

@SierraThunder

I can watch this movie 3 dozen times and never get tired of it. I love the early live action films that they did back in the day. I hate the ones they are doing now. By the way do you have the movie COOL WORLD??

Excalipoverty, probably not all different; you assemble the ingredients, preheat, then slip 'em into the oven when the timer goes off.

@Estrellita1996ful You don't ever see them together - that's the point, this was the only time the two have EVER been in the same scene.

SeanaLPurvis 6 months ago in playlist Who Framed Roger Rabbit
@Matty5122 there was supposed to be a prequel to this movie called Who Discovered Roger Rabbit it involved something about Roger saving Jessica from the Nazis or something but (perhaps thankfully) it was never made PS it turns out Roger is Bugs Bunny's son
