I've just discovered this clip for the first time and although I am obviously familiar with the song, I am speechless at the total magnificence of the performance.
They might be in their 70's here but they embarrass anyone who' around today with their pure talent. Nothing compares to this Robbie Williams wouldn't even come close to this. Outstanding and very very sad to see them looking so old but sounding as good as they ever did.
magnificent musicianship, wonderful unity..... powerful indictment of our life and times. It's 2011...... and I first heard this in the 60's. Every word still rings true.
I never cease to be amazed how these two can create such powerful music with so little. They sound great backed by a band, but it speaks volumes that they can stand there alone with a single guitar and capture the hearts and enchant the minds of every listener.
First note of music I ever heard in my life. I rediscoverd S&G a million times over since then, but it always takes me back to that place not far from the cradle.
eine einzigartige harmonie der stimmen...never heard before....grooßartige künstler - zeitlos - sanft - voller kraft und einfach genial - weltklasse - über all die vielen jahre...danke danke danke an die vielen jahre die ich eure musik hören darf
It's amazing how their voices have retained it's perfect quality.. over all these years.. and their age.. but they still sing as good as they did many years ago
I love them so much. They are the best duo of all time. their songs are timeless. Paul Simon is a genius. His album "Graceland" is one of the best Albums I have every heard and in my opinion a timeless classic. It seems like a lot of people who are commenting are around my age. It proves how meaningful music is long lasting . I like older music recently. new music doesn't have the Magic like Simon and Garfunkel.
this makes me wish I grew up in the 60's-70's :( I"m an 80's baby. I love old tunes such as these ones. Such meaning behind them. Most artists today sing about whatever will make them money. I miss Lauryn hill.

Re "growing up in 60's-70's envy" God's to be thanked for putting each of us in PRECISE era and location He chose. As having grown up in THAT era, let me tell you that a lot of really horrible ERROR was made to look bright and shiny, and totally swallowed by an innocent generation Timothy L. pushing LSD and burning out the minds of some of the best and brightest, Beetles lambasting girlfriends for not "Check(ing) it" or affording abortion "ticket", imagining world "w/o God or religion, too"...
I don`t see any evidence of self-righteousness, neither in my or previous comments. Comments here are appreciative of this clip. There`s plenty of that elsewhere on youtube, but your average S and G fan is more magnanimous than most.
A friend of mine, who`s a bit rough at the edges, branded these 2 as "arrogant a***oles" when I mentioned them. So I scoured youtube looking for evidence of such. And couldn`t find any. Some people are sure jaundiced. And what a song.
gemo33; yes, their music is true world music- touching folks from all around the globe. My mother used to play their songs to death for my father when they were young. Funny to think about because they still play and I have been to one of their concerts, a band for all generations! :-)
I'm 22 and I listen to these guys almost religiously. I really wish I was around back in the 60s and early 70s when these guys were as old as I was...
I would love to know what everyone's definition of rasp is, because there is none in Art's voice. His voice is different because it just changed. It is still the voice of an angel and compliment's Paul's songs perfectly.
I think Art's voice has aged a lot and sounds old. It's still very very beautiful though. And it still fits magically with Paul's. Definitely no rasp in it but maybe a little strain now. My two cents.
I find it stunning that the average age people who have left a comment on this video is somewhere around 22. I think it speaks volumes about the songwriting ability and musicianship of Paul Simon. I am more of a heavy music fan myself, but it is very hard to hard to argue that Simons songwriting chops are beyond brilliant and the best in class for those who write music as an art. They are old men now, but this performance is very good. For me, it is just great to see them perform together.
This is REAL music

@jaywolfenstien exactly thats basically all they are, 2 voices and a guitar, and they reached greatness just with that.

What is the meaning of this song?
eylookasqurrel 3 years ago
its about the lack of communication between people and how it affects us
it was written right after JFK's assasaination
mcar94 2 years ago
how does that have to do with his assasination?
eylookasqurrel 2 years ago
it was just written in the aftermath
its just that the event adds to the song's meloncholy i think
