Dimension Hatross is my favorite Voivod record. This song, Macrosolutions to Megaproblems and Chaosmongers are my favorite tracks on the record. VOIVOD LIVES !!
@SuperWooders First VoiVod foray for me was Killing Technology, the Tornado and Ravenous Medicine where the first ones I remember, then I got War and Pain
Only Voivod sounded like Voivod. Totally unique sound. Minor Chords more commonly heard on King Crimson albums than metal albums, lyrical inspiration ranging from Punk to political literature, and musical sentiments from prog rock to thrash.
So right sir. For my ear, it seems to be a NYC Hardcore/So Cal hardcore blend . . . 50/50. As far as summining King Crimson, I love King Crimson, but I should take further review of both to understand.
Note that I don't compare Voivod with them though. I only made a note that some of their chord progressions were "Crimson-esque" and not usual metal fare.
However, I'm glad you seem to agree enough to lisen again. Likewise, I shall be looking into the NYC/So Cal Hardcore scenes. Some bands from the New York scene I'm familiar with, but have to say I draw a blank on So.Cal.
Hey bro, I just heard it again. I feel as though thay are in fluenced by every band, thay have collectively listened to while growing up. This for certain . . . You can't really peg this band.! As far as So/Cal Hardcore suggestions, here I go! Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies. Also check the musical stylings of the Angry Samoans, No Fraud, D.R.I. , The Accussed and F.E.A.R. .But, you should start at the begining with The MC-5! I am sure you are familiar with The motor city 5
@krysylys Dark Angel...They kind of emerged in San fran, but they claimed LA before Metallica moved south, and before the hair bands took everything over.

Voivod was unique in many ways. If I were to label under a genre, I'd call them "alien metal", they were awesome.

Yep. King Crimson are superb.

Any suggestions for bands from I should try out?

@krysylys Most were based squarely on Piggy's dreams and nightmares, the VoiVod concept was created before the songs.
