I recommend a visit.. lots of nostalgia you need not be too old to remember.. :) I'm Swedish, but we live in Colchester since 9 years back, which, if you know your England map, places me firmly in Essex... :)
It was a very small building, but they had a lot to look at, if you took your time to do so.. Some good demonstratioins going on too, and a very nice little shop! Yes, I'm surte you would have enjoyed it.. :)
Thank you! I enjoyed it too.. YouTube must have changed the settings, I always have responses on automatic approval.. :) Must make sure I check that next time I post a video! By the way, who pays for the electricity in that place of yours?? Long tunnels, plenty of light.. :)
When I arrived in England in the middle 50s they still had trams running n(in Portsmouth). The tickets guy used to have to go out and with his long pole try and slip the contact rod to the electricity cable before it moves off again.
I could have brightened it in 'Moviemaker', but it took me 3 days just to get this together, as the files don't agree with moviemaker at all, unless I convert them all to wmv-format first.. which I didn't, in this case.. :)
I just discoveerd a quote about electricity: "Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices" [Voltaire]
Very interesting Rob. I love the tram! Patchcords would have been in his glory. He has donated several in his collection of antique console tube radios to a museum here in our city, along with a WW1 aviator's leather cap and other odds and ends.. They just take up so much space. Well done and much enjoyed.
Make sure you send him the video!! :) :) I felt somewhat old seeing things in the museum, like the electric curlers, that I recall my mother and sisters using when I grew up.. and now it's museum pieces!! It was a rainy day, which is why I managed to persuade 'the other two' to go there, they're not the keenest of museum visitors... :)
Thanks for taking us along on the tour... Nothing beats a well-planned and organized museum...

He must have been well equipped... :)

I don't know. You have to ask his wife for that.

Had me wired to my seat, watts the point of such bad lighting in a electricity museum,
maybe their power bill was a bit high.

That reminds me about the advert for Powergen in Italy.. thier webaddress, before they changed it, was 'powergenitalia'! :)

LOL! I think their marketing team dropped a bollock!

I particularly liked the old-style mobile phones at 3.35.

ZappityDooDah.
Very nice to see a museum like this. I probably would never get around to going there myself.
Thanks.

...and why not? :)

Long swim and I hate visiting a museum in my swimming trunks.
PuppyZwolle 3 years ago
Not forgetting too, that water and electricity don't mix... :)
Tuberglue 3 years ago
The tram's excellent.
kratzenbourgII 3 years ago
That was the main reason I wanted to go there... :)
