Its a shame the second tv series didn't come to be cause the movie it became sucked ass for my money. It was boring and lacked a sense of humor like TOS. The other ST movies were hit and mis, some good some not so much. For me I would rather have had 5 years of 26 new episodes per year frankly. The show was going to resemble the original much more of course including the uniforms. The bonus being that you could predict who was going to bite it down on the planet by the red uniforms they wore.
@LightenUpMcGraw I have thought many times what would have happened if that show was made instead of the motion picture. None the less, the motion picture was a huge box office hit and opened the way for all the other films and IMO the other series like TNG etc. I cant prove this but if the motion picture and its financial sucess (albeit no warmth of TOS) TNG, DS9, Enterprise would have never happened. And the Star Trek universe may have died in the 1970s instead of going into the 21st century.
@RedPortiaOne I enjoyed DS9 since that was the series I grew up with because of my father forcing us to watch Star Trek whom was not even born when TOS aired.
I just hope we get to see the new series this year, even if we don't get the First Lady of Star Trek to ever do the computer voice again live :(
Yes. it went where many have gone before. Enterprise went in the garbage. Gene can not be replaced by people that don't understand that trek is not about queers.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of that Runner Second Series with Zoan, Zon, or however it is spelled instead of Spoke Episode. Would love to watch it, even if it is a short Runner or peaced together.
Star Trek became a movie because of the success of Star Wars in '77.Everyone knows that.It wasn't because the script was so good for "In Thy Image" that Michael Eisner said We finally have a Star Trek movie. No,they wanted to cash in on the Star Wars craze and they rushed out an overblown premiere TV episode of a reworked"In Thy Image"by Alan Dean Foster.
@jmc32007 Quite true about wanting to cash in on the sucess of Star Wars. But when Star Trek went crazy in sucess in syndication in the early 1970's there were some heavy talks for about 5 years on bringing Trek back to Tv. They decided on a movie because of the Star Wars craze :)
@jmc32007 Also, not how Decker and Ilia each get more lines than Sulu and Checkov combined. It wasn't even re-worked that well, they just wanted to keep the sexy young actors on board.
@wolfstev76 Ya Tv is sort of a lost cause these days. Its not like the old days with great shows like Star Trek and the Incredible Hulk. I never will understand why they chose a stupid CGI Hulk over the great Lou Ferrigno. I met Lou in December 1979 when I was a kid and was just blown away by him. He is as awesome looking today as he was then, and to give him a bit part as a security guard was an insult, dont you think?
howdy RedPortiaONe..I hear they are making a second movie to the 2006 Star Trek Movie. Hope it's a better one than the first. Anyhow, thanks for all the information. I've been searching all over the web and found multiple episodes continuing from TOS to Kirk's era (movies) but noticed alot of these Phase II just seem to stop after two or three episodes. Even this so called "Lexington" has gone no where. Sad, I would love to see the USS Lexington take flight.
@wolfstev76 Hi.Glad you liked the Trek Info. This stuff is mostly fan based and on a highly restricted budget. Thanks 4 the movie info. Tv needs to pick up Trek again man. I was searching for so long for full episodes on Star Trek Remastered on You Tube and no luck. So I went out and blew the $200 on the boxed set. Then I discovered a site called HULU and they have full Remastered episodes there, not to mention Enterprise and TNG. Check it out and let me know what you think my friend :)
I never knew this exsisted. Now that I do, I am so disappointed this never took flight. Just knowing this could have been something unique in itself has blown me away. With the end of Star Trek Enterprise series. I knew this was Paramounts chance to end Gene's dream. Do not tell me, "at least we have Star Trek with Chris Pine". THAT! Is not Star Trek.
@wolfstev76 Chris Pine's Star Trek is garbage and not Star Trek I agree. well it did take flight in 2006. It is a new continuing web series called Star Trek Phase 2/New Voyages and is an excellently produced continuation of TOS. I emailed you ALL the details. Let me know what you think my friend. Rick :)
@RedPortiaOne PS don't worry bro, with the new web series Star Trek Phase 2/New Voyages, Genes vision will never die. As long as there are Trekkers out there like you and I. I hope they bring the web series to Tv soon. It would be nice to have a new episode every week instead of every few months.
@HerschelMatthews Hi :) I totally agree with what you are saying. Wouldnt it be interesting if we had a time machine so that Star Trek TOS would have done its 5 year run, or that Phase 2 would have replaces the movies? Well we cant change history, not in this universe anyway, but I'm really happy with the new Star Trek New Voyages with James Cawley & cast. The storys are great and the special effects are even better then the newly done Star Trek Remastered. Best of all its my Enterprise & People
@xyxyxyfan You should watch a few episodes of Star Trek Remastered. Theres tons of them here on you tube. If you like the cool message in this video then you will love Star Trek Remastered. It has action, adventure, great moral story lines with interesting cool characters with very high morals :)
I love ST:TMP but thinking about that there could have been a Phase 2 makes me imagine what could have been. Decker looked so boring, Xon looked so much cooler.
Itg would have been too to see Phase 2 I agree. They do however have Star Trek Phase 2 which were recently done available on line only. These all new Star Trek TOS episodes with the TOS look, with 3 new actors portraying Kirk Spock and McCoy. The idea is to complete the 4th and 5th years of the TOS missions that were never completed. I downloaded them and they are really cool. Just google Star Trek Phase 2 and you'll get the download sites. Let me know what you think of them :)
@RedPortiaOne Well, I have been following New Voyages for several years. I have enjoyed all the episodes so far and am very much looking forward to seeing Enemy: Starfleet.
Ya Xon looked pretty cool. To bad the show never flied. It would be interesting to see what would have happend to Trek history if the show was a hit instead of Star Trek The Motion Picture. Talk about an alternate reality!
I'm glad they didn't do phase 2.... 70's TV sci fi was garbage. The hairstyles would have never held up (in TOS at least most of the men's hair holds up over time because they had shorter hair)
The music prolly would have been crap...would have been like Dr Who. We ended up getting the best of both worlds,,, some good TOS movies, and TNG, which somehow managed to capture lightning in a bottle like TOS did.
And we did pretty well w/out phase 2 in getting most of the movies (most held up well over time), and then DS9 & Voyager. (The only one of the shows in the franchise that I have a little problem w/ is Enterprise).
Wow that is interesting stuff, I remember seeing a big book once with all kinds of pics of the Phase two details FACINATING. I wish they had gone ahead with that series so there would be lots of adventures to watch. Plus that movie was a pure dog. Its like the powers that be simple forgot what made ST fun to watch; it was the light hearted moments between the crew, ST the Motion Picture was devoid of fun. Thats what makes the new ST 09 so cool, its fun on wheels, it new and old all at once.
I agree with you on The Motion Picture, but it did spawn the huge movie franchise. They actually did start Phase 2 in 2006. Go to StarTrekNewVoyages. Takei and Koenig (nice last names btw) are out of work actors without much else to do professionally. Notice how they changed EVERYTHING from the first film to the Rath. The Rath had adventure, humor, action, all the things they missed when they thought the ship itself was the star, but it wasn't.
Thankyou.

This would've been way better than the movies.
Xon as a full Vulcan would've driven women nuts!
As Spock did.
This would've been a 5 season or more show.
Then... the movies would come.
& be much better.
I love ST 4.
But Phase 2 looked like the technology would've been better than what we got in the movies.
Long live Star Trek New Voyages.
They will do what we shoulda had in 1977.
