  • I wish I heard this version first. I can't get Shatner out of my head.

  • Jarvis = legend!

  • who is that girl giving the thumbs up at the end..that isnt the keyboardist..anyone know

  • Well one can always get rich pretty fat real estate gig he had in Trainspotting, totally dug Mile end in that piece, ay stay awake like Dewo

  • As a student in these times, i can safely say this 'generation' is having a resurgence. unfortunately.

  • WTF, The All Seeing I wasn't Jarvis Cocker's band, he just cameo'd on one of their album tracks. The All Seeing I was Jason Buckle's project (Jarvis's mate admittedly)

  • Amazing song!!!:)...and very gay singer!!!:P...amazing group thought!!!:)

  • @savuropidikulas Actually JC is very, very straight. (!!!)

  • @menyc i thought he was straight, but with his theatrics and that accent he had me questioning it. its a common joke in america that every englishmen sound as if there gay.

  • @mcasa09 He's a married man and living in paris. He's from the same part of Sheffield uk where I was raised :) I was a child of the Netto generation.

  • @saltburnsurfer I think he has split up wife his wife now - but still living in Paris I think. I went to Sheffield Uni - good times!

  • @ThePillarOfAutumn1

lol i prefer this one but i can understand wat u mean, shatner makes its it so class

  • @ThePillarOfAutumn1 No, no it isn't. It misses the whole point of the song. The in it's entirety is a classic reflection on rich kids slumming it, because back then being working class was seen to be 'cool' by a lot of middle and upper class young people. Where as the reality of being working class is a lot grimmer when you can't escape it.

  • the netto generation wat?

  • @oifydude The cheap shop Netto, I was part of that generation. It was shit!

  • awful sound quality

  • shit

  • PULP Brit pop at it finest I often wonder why they werent a much bigger success than they were.. very influential

And ah I remember those British college days in London.. the girls beautiful not an ounce of body fat on them.. and so sassy

    who remembers Jackie Magazine?

  • Yeah He's even doing the movements from the music video.

  • Top tune! Thanks for posting!!

  • 1. Would Ryan Barker think this is a diss if I dedicate it to him?

    2. Would he take a hint?

    - Veronica Grey

  • COMMON PEOPLE YES

  • millor la versio d'en Manel

  • video is screwed?

  • keyboard player good ass!

  • good song

  • crymz1, you must have come to that conclusion from the hard-on that you had after the video ended - most people just like the song and don't obsess over the sexual preferences of the performers ...

  • does anyone know the real story behind this song ? "aparantley" its about a girl that wants to be part of the old school indi scene which is usually a lack of money but she was a rich grrl and in order to get her street cred in the indi scene she rented the worst possible flat in the worst possible area of london and got murdered by someone that thought there was a drug deal going down in that flat i wanna sleep with common people like thesome of us are you sure ?

  • uh its pretty obvious i would have thought, its not about a specific story as far as i know, just that generation of rich kids who think being poor is cool. the girl in the song will never understand the frustration and futility of being poor because no matter what she does she can always call her dad and end it all, whereas being poor is to have no way out. she's being stupid and rude and is an obvious tourist but will never understand why their lives shine so brightly compared to hers.

  • @davidmalynch no, its not based on an event like that, it more refers to that whole class of people. Although the girl mentioned is based on one that cocker did meet at st martins college, who expressed interest in living like 'the common people'.

  • only joking bubz

  • your shit

  • Awesome song.

Damon at the end is legendary

  • Remember watching this at the time. Fairly sure the original program was aired in the glorious summer of '95

  • oooooh, oh la la la la la la. <3

    I cant find the non-live-version anywhere. :0

  • me neither, I am trying to find the original video and I cant find it,

  • guys its on dailymotion

  • luv that cute little keyboard chik...amazing band

  • Cracking posting. You don't get to see/hear the album version with the extra verse too often. Cheers!

  • Extra verse?

  • the best verse

its the whole point of the song

  • it's the full length version. The single release has a verse missing.

  • When was this filmed please?

  • May/June 1995

  • I thought about that time, what with Different Class being released in '95 but I wasn't sure because of the captions shown throughout the performance and with Pulp not actually having broken up I thought it might have been more recent :) Thank-you.

  • The captions are later because this was from a repeat broadcast as part of a Britpop night on BBC4 a few years ago.

  • Yeah lol, I guessed. Just wishful thinking that it was more recent really, I'm dying for them to come off hiatus. Thank-you for the info though, oh and obviously thanks for posting the video :)

  • @Happyx1Million August 1995

  • Truly great tune! Though 16 years on no posh kids wanna live like common people - they've reinvited victorian style snobbery.

  • luv this vids...:D
