A DSG has the advantages of both an auto and a stick. Look I love standards, but you can't deny progress. A newbie could drive a DSG around town and love it, say that with a standard 450hp car. Honestly...I'd say only as import(not including taxes, shipping etc.) US will get the updated 2008 "sedan" as its called - unfortunately - without the rear spoiler and beefy twin-turbo glued onto the inline 6. Wonder if it'll lag in low range. Mind, you, if it's torquey enough you'll need a GT3RS to keep in sync with this.

Yes, it's on Nissan USA's website, and there's an article in this month's Motor Trend magazine too. The GT-R will be released in North America in mid-2008 as a 2009 model. Price will be comparable to the Corvette Z06.

That's tough to answer. Some people will buy the Z06 just because they like Chevy better than Nissan, and vice-versa. The Z06 is also a higher-production car - they're only planning to sell 1500 GT-Rs per year in the US and the waitlist is already long. Performance-wise the GT-R appears to be better, but we'll have to see what production versions do. A higher-performance replacement for the Z06 is due in a year or two as well.

If you'll re-read my post, you'll see that I wrote "...the GT-R APPEARS to be better, but we'll have to see what production versions do." But one of Nissan's pre-production mules lapped the Nurburgring in 7:38 in partial wet conditions and that's documented, not just Nissan's claim. A Z06 managed 7:42 in dry conditions. But you're right, we won't know which car is actually faster until production GT-Rs are released for testing.

I disagree with the statement about Porsche being overrated. That cheap made Nissan as someone said comes from the same company whose previous GT-R's were banned from racing because they couldn't lose. Nissan will also be producing other versions of the GT-R, probably a V-Spec as well as an N1 version for racing. These will compete head-to-head with the GT2 and GT3 911.

I am sure it will take a standard 911, but I know for a fact it won't beat a new 911 turbo. Also who the hell would give $70,000 or more for a fancy Nissan 350z. For the kind of money that this car cost I would buy a used 01 or 02 911 turbo with low miles for around 60 grand and spend 900 bucks on a performance chip and bump my horse power up to 520hp and 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds and top speed to 201mph and smoke that crappy Nissan.

there's one video on here where a guy gets a pretty good zoom in shot of the dash and steering wheel. if you pause it at the right moment you can clearly see that the LCD screen has the same digital meters that the R34 had. I think the larger one on the left of the screen is for boost, and to the right you can kind of make out some smaller ones, probably for g-meter, oil temp, etc.
