My iguana has never whipped at me and i got him as a baby, he about to be a 1yr old this month, and we've been working to taming him and hes really improved, he lets us touch him and he really likes it, but when we take him out, and place him on say my bed, he runs around all wild-ish. Will he grow out or do they naturally get more tame as age goes by? I really travle a lot and it would be really fun to take him to my aunts or the beach. But I dont want him to be out of control lol tips? thanks
haha i just bought a iguana today and he is a baby he is a crazy little fucker but he seems easy to train i can touch his tail but his body freaks him out it first day and so far he been watching me all day he seems smart cant wait till he gets used to me
are they easy to take care of?what special things do they need like uv lights ar any things like that? do they get aggressive? where did you get it and how much they cost? sorry for asking to many questions
@LaZyBoNeSz No worries. :) i appreciate the concern. Maybe you should try offering your iguana blueberries! ;) And please don't be fooled by Paquita's apparent "niceness." When no one's looking, she's a real turd. She head bobs me, hisses, and tries to bite if she gets really worked up (like if I try to help her with skin shed). She was about 5 yrs old at the time of this video and she's approx. 7.5 yrs old now - tame but bratty!
@LaZyBoNeSz Thanks. She is a female actually (she's laid eggs before and is now spayed). She's a light eater and it was a struggle to get her to put weight on after her spay, but I assure you that she is healthy. :) For the past 3 years, she's gotten access to unfiltered, natural sunlight on our patio, and has a Mega Ray SB bulb over her basking area while indoors. You can see what she eats on some of my other videos. :)
@jenuelpr Aww. :( I realize this comment is from a year ago and I hope things are better now, but if not, then please see my comment to samman401. Also, if you do a Google search for Green Iguana Society, they have a message board there where you can get advice on taming, etc. (also the site itself has a ton of great care info).
@samman401 It really depends on the individual iguana; some are more work than others. You need to gain their trust and come across as non-threatening to them (try doing a non-contact, quiet activity around him/her, like reading). Of course once they're "tame," they can then become territorial and then you have aggression due to that! (sigh) ;)
Yes, dandelions (the flower and the greens) are great to feed. Plain, cooked pasta (made without egg, and of course no sauce!) works well as a treat, but only on occasion. I think it's best to avoid feeding yogurt, since it is a dairy product and not appropriate for herbivorous reptiles, but I'm sure a little bit once in a while won't hurt. ;) Plus, igs are just like people when it comes to loving foods that are not good for you! :P
If you find a food that your ig really likes (usually fruit; like banana, blueberries, or strawberries) and then you kinda coax them into reaching up to get it. Definitely give it to them either way - you don't want to tease them. ;)
I think she's got natural talent. :) I'd heard of other peoples' igs begging for bread and such, so I thought I'd try blueberries. Not sure if she'd perform in public though. She also likes plain, cooked pasta (rotini or penne) for an occasional treat. Stay tuned... maybe there will be Part 2.
So badass. I want an Iguana really bad
