  • I would do her on the straitaways in my 455 rocket (70'442) .

Straitways only because old muscle cars dont corner worth a shit. ha

  • I would like to bone her

  • เจ๋งสาสสส

  • My favorite muscle car? 69 Z28 427

  • Back when GM made quality vehicles. I had a 1987 Caprice with a 350 Rocket and a 1992 Roadmaster with the LT1 engine (loved beating those little hondas who only saw an over size station wagon). Would love to take 455 on a quater mile track

  • @ladymorganaphenioxfi i had a 62 chevy short box stepside with a 350 small block with a four speed. used to take the same road home all the time. in one spot in the road narrowed to two lanes from four. every once in a while a pencil neck with a honda prelude used to sneak up on the inside and cut me off. i saw him come up one day and decided i'd had enough of his act. i downshifted and kicked it and he just missed the safety rail. never did it again. loved that old truck

  • Great song...great singer...one hell of a sexy woman. Am I the only one who thinks she's one of the sexiest country singers ever?

  • I'm sick and tired of hearing shitty music ads that couldn't be further from the type of music I listen to. Hey Vivo, if you insist on advertising music on your vidoes, at least make sure the music is in the same genre as the music video we are watching. I fucking hate hip hop, and I don't want to hear that noise before the actual video starts. Fucking assholes!

  • 427 bbc will run over a 455 olds and send it home crying

  • @hgou812 hahah stfu your an idiot

  • @GetOnMyLevelGame Go search the 455 hemi W-43 then come back and comment

  • @GetOnMyLevelGame well There was also an engine coded W-43 in 1969 to 1970, though it was never offered as a production unit. !!!!!!! so i guess i was right STUPID

  • @hgou812 Don't underestimate an Olds 455 big block they were a beast in the W-30s

  • @GetOnMyLevelGame ok lol

  • @hgou812 Whos Craig Williams

  • @GetOnMyLevelGame the guy that use own my truck by the way my 427 is stock expect it has a roller cam

  • @hgou812 What are the numbers?

  • @GetOnMyLevelGame 10.52 on motor 9.71 on 225 hp spray there is a video on you tube

  • @hgou812 If you do up a 455 right it has alot of power.

  • @GetOnMyLevelGame wow 5 days later u come back with that who,s the idiot now what a key Bord cowboy

  • This is no doubt influened by the Shania craze around that time. But Kathy is fantastic in this number. I miss her music. She was pretty great in the late 80's and early 90's.

  • Yes..Yes..a thousand times yes.

  • She came to our high school auditorium in little ol' Ludington Mi and put on one hell of a show. Great performer, I especally liked some of the Irish stuff she did...

  • say what you want this is rock and roll. she shoulda done more songs like this.

  • +what about the 426 hemi ?

  • a 454 is 1 ci smaller and it makes more power

  • what about the 460 from ford? thats 5ci bigger

  • @KLX1990 the 460 was a dog motor. nothing compares to a 427.

  • @jimid27 428 SCJ??

  • Listen to Kathy's song Black Lung..love the old Mountain songs..I had a 68 Olds Custom Deluxe with a 455 rocket.Boy could she get down on it..

  • '59 Olds 98's didnt come with a 455

  • @NP535overdrive Who cares ! Any song that has a great beat, cool harmonica, and a chick singing about drag racing and engines is OK by me !

  • This is a kick in the pants video!

  • Great to see KM camping it up. I think this video won a CMA award.

  • @sexonnaplatter best video

  • If you're looking for a girl who shows up at the country club in a Volvo...it ain't me. This is more my vibe. I'd rather show up in the country in a Mustang.

  • I had a 66 Olds love it and cried when the wrecker came. Never forgot old blue.

  • buick wildcat also had a 455

  • Adam Brand nails this one good !!

  • No, the 455 was not available in that '59 Olds 98. It came with a 394 with a 4-bbl carb, but it could still keep up with a 5.0 Mustang. My beloved Vista Cruisers had the 455 available from 1970-76.

From 1991-98, I had a '59 98 Holiday SportSedan EXACTLY like the one in the video, baby blue with a white flattop roof, and the shifter went PNDSLR. The speedometer was a bar graph that was green from 0-35, orange from 35-65 and red above that.

What's with the PONTIAC 455 emblem on that '59 98?

  • @OldsVistaCruiser 455

A larger big-block was introduced for 1968 as the Rocket 455 at 455 cu in (7.5 L) to replace the 425s. It kept the 425's 4.126 in (104.8 mm) bore and bumped the stroke to 4.25 in (108 mm). 1968-1969 455s were painted red, except in the Toronado, where they were painted slate blue metallic, while 1970-1976 versions were metallic blue.

  • @flyinhigh2009 - Yes, the 4-4-2 and the big cars got the 455 in 1968 as optional. The Vista Cruisers had to wait until 1970 - my '69s only had three available engines: 350 2-bbl, 9:1 compression ratio, 250 hp; 350 4-bbl, 10.25:1 compression, 310 hp; and the 400 4-bbl, 10.5:1 compression, 325 hp. I've had all but the 400 in the 3 '69 Vistas that I've had since 1982. I'm now converting a 350 2-bbl to a Q-jet, but leaving the regular-gas heads alone.

  • @OldsVistaCruiser Child's play. My _motorcycle_ has a 502.

  • Love this song... just recently bought a '73 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan for $250, it's pretty beat-up, like the car in this song, it has a 455 Rocket, leaks in the rain, misses a little bit and sounds like a World War I-era aircraft, but it is a fun car. I don't even care that it gets 6 miles per gallon...

This song needs more radio airplay...

  • @andriakilgore i have a cd with rock songs on it. i added this one about 6 months ago. when it came on while i was driving i was rocking to the song, when i looked at the speedometer i was doing over 90 mph. if kathy had done more of this kind of music she would have established herself as a rock singer.

  • I drove 130 mph using a 1970 Ford LTD with a 454 four-barrel

  • @winger55552001 - You had a Ford with a Chevy engine in it? The 454 was Chevy-only. (I had a '73 LTD with a 429 under the hood)

  • At the end they show a Buick. Interior might be Buick too.

  • I find it someone ironic that it was produced by 'Mercury' records...haha. And yes, I know there is no relation to the car company

  • mine was a 1968 olds cutlass with a 455 bored .30 over......pulled the front end off hittin 2nd gear.......i miss that car soooo much!!

  • and 2 people drive c hevys

  • @brinkibility Amen. That's why they quit makin em. I got a 93 ninety eight not as nice as a 69 olds but she's still tight at 18 years old

  • I had a 1969 Olds "98" Luxury Sedan with a 455 rocket,what a boat . I loved that car

  • This song was written by Gillian Welch. Her version is on Youtube ... just awesome.

  • MY Oldsmobile Toronado. with the W34 455 Rocket. would be better in this video. The W34 is the baddest 455 built.

  • my first car was a 1972 buick limited, it had a 455 in it as well but not a rocket, but she was a beautiful highway cruiser and i still miss her

  • The cutaway car at the end of the video,is a GASP! BUICK!

  • This is one of my favorite songs to sing! Amazing song!

  • @jeni188814 i listened to this song by a bunch of other artists. this one is the best. can't do this song without a dobro. that guitar make this song stand out like the others can't.

  • In the mid-1980s, my granny had a 1972 two-tone blue Cutlass Supreme. One morning, when she arrived at work, a young man who had been driving behind her asked, "Miss Hawkins, how fast were you driving? I was on 80 and I couldn't catch up with you!" My grandmother, true to her southern ways, acted as though nothing inappropriate had happened. I'd like to try that now! ha

  • All those people and insturments really will fit in that car. My aunt had a brand new one.She and my mother went out to California with alll they owned in one of them. My aunt played the uright bass and it fit necele in that car. The end fit perfectly on the dash. Car was a boat. You didn't park them you ported it. I love old oldsmobiles.

  • My 1969 Hurst/Olds should of been in this video. Oh well they got Mr Smith's car instead.

  • @ENCO12357 If that wouldn't have worked out they could've used my '71W30, My Father In Law's '69 H/O or his '68W30, or even my Brother In Law's '70W30....

  • @aricpelt Much better then a shiiiivelle. LOL.

  • I remember being a kid and singing this song in the car with my Mom on the way to Tennessee. Brings back memories, my Granddad used to restore vintage cars. :)

  • Quite possibly one of THE coolest songs...EVER.

  • I've never been the biggest Kathy Mattea fan, but this is just a blisteringly great track. I never tire of hearing it and how often can you say that about any song?

  • @JohnnyContagious Always have liked this song; can't help tapping your toes when you hear it, lol

  • Kathy hit #21 in Billboard, 4-19-97. God bless ya, Miss Kathy! Hugs to ya!

  • my uncle had a 70 challenger with a 426 hemi, you talk about a bat out of (You know where). It was awesome to drive, later he put a 455 rocket in a cutlass, early to mid 70s. We could never get a edge over each other.

  • I love the song too, but the one they are in on the stage (the stage car) is one of a Buick Skylark (mid 60s?) and the car on the turn table is a 1959 Oldsmobile, but those didnt come with a 455 originally. lol. Still a neat song and I love Kathy!

  • I have a 72 442 but underneath my hood is a 68 455 rocket from aTorono 425 hp plus and I love this song She can sing it so good get in sit down shut up and hang on sheee's a rocket

  • Oldsmobile set the standard at GM. Too bad they got too full of themselves and let the unions roll them at the same time.

  • Good job to you too, Kathy! (sorry I didn't say that in my first post!)

  • Who's the "cat eyed" blonde in the background vocals? She looks kinda' familiar...

I've always loved this song, good job "Gilly",.. you go girl! Why ain't you still writtin' raunchy stuff like this? I bet it's 'cause you ain't hungry no more...like you wuz when you wrote it...

  • This song is still a Hoot!

  • Love those cars and LOVE that song! Haven't heard it in a while. The biggest car dealer around here when I was a kid was a Oldsmobile dealership named Rooster Bush Olds.

  • Kathy Mattea rocks! How can you listen to this song or watch this video without a big ole grin on your face?

  • I had a 61 olds dynamic 88 My husband who was my boyfriend at the time had a 68 Chevelle. He was chasing me one night because of an argument. I stopped for gas and his car was over heating. When this song came out , it became kind of a bone of contention and to this day I like to remind him how my Olds out ran his piece of SSHHHIIIIVELLE, Sure wish I had that car back

  • other than vevo slowin down the situation......you cant cant beat he the tune

  • Love the song but least she coulda used an Oldsmobile that actually came wit a 455 lol

  • @chuckhotrod63 - lol, yeah the biggest engine Olds used in 1959 was a 394. (which was still no slouch). I had a 60 Olds Super 88. I had a 71 Olds with a 455 Rocket... very fast car!

  • love this song!!!!!!!!

  • Hey? I didnt know Apolo Ono played drums!!??

  • had a 68 Olds cutless...

  • God bless America God bless General Motors,i love my chevy impala and my pops olds cutlass

  • The best cars ARE older cars,at least when you got hit in one of them your car didnt go flying apart like a tinker toy in plastic pieces*. ThankGod for MOPAR,DODGE,CHRYSLER yehawl!

  • @redwing46901 Mopar are no car!!!

  • Reminds me of another Cathy-- same crazy, tomboy type who caused fights everywhere she went, but damn, she was fun; danced the same way, too.

  • Several comments about how this gal can "bend a note" and that's true-- she's a great singer. But that ain't all. Don't know who put the words together, but they got it perfect-- just the right bit of flip smartass that you might expect from some tomboyish, hard-headed gal who likes to tease and show up the guys, totally unfazed even after she crashed. "Better watch yerself when you take that turn..." And check out those expressions-- no professional actress could have gotten it better.

  • Welcome to the age of the Obamamobile.

  • Did you boys come to race, or just kiss?

  • Every once in awhile you come across a song that for no reason makes you laugh and sing-along and just puts you in a good mood, and yeah there is no reason for it what-so-ever, this is one of those songs. It always makes me wanna sing and dance around the room.

  • Loves me some Oldsmobile. I've had 5 (Eighty Eight, Ninety Eight, Touring Sedan, Cutlass, and Bravada) and wish I could keep buying them. None had the 455 but every one has been a GREAT car. RIP Oldsmobile....you're missed

  • @morgandorfer98 - Me, too. I've owned 5 Oldsmobiles as well, and none with the Rocket 455. I've had three '69 Vista Cruisers, a 1980 Cutlass Supreme coupe and an identical '59 98 as the one in this video.

  • You tube ads suck

  • I love this. She can sure bend a note.

  • Such a great song and video. Kathy Mattea can sure bend a note.

  • We need to go back to this..."Made in America" was the best value you could get in the world...how about that little background "blue dress" blonde...is she hot or what?!

  • wow that is a sexy song :) ya a dance tune for sure

  • nice video my dad had a 455 rocket in a convertible back in the day

  • love this song!

  • Love the song and the engine, but most of all I love that blond back up singer.

  • Got a pair of 1970 Delta 88s with 455s. They can still pass most any car out there. From her remarks it is obvious Sharon has never ridden in or drove one.

  • @sharon4346 embarrassful???? really???? you no there is no such word, right???? also if this song sucks so badly why not just move on and leave the comments to those of us who do like it?

  • @sharon4346 are you allowed to even drive??? People like you scare other motorist...stay on your bike..(4 wheels we're all hoping) wear your helmet, just stay safe...and most of all keep us safe...If i end up with a stalker that has a bike w/ a basket on the front... everyone here will know it's you...you'e dangerous...not only to yourself, but others!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have never watched a "Vevo" that has not lagged

  • Fn vevo

  • There is a line dance called "The Stampede" that works very well with this song.

  • I forgot how cool this song was. And I almost forgot how great this country could be when we didn't outsouce every goddamn thing to china.

  • I had 67 olds cutlass, loved the look ..it only had a 330( last year of them) but it still moved when you kicked it..someday I will find one again

  • mine was made too burn............

  • thats when they made cars with personality, you could see one comin a quater mile away and tell what kind it was!

  • A hole band with the drums and all in one car. No wonder why it had a 455 that is the only thing that would pull it around.

  • Cool!

  • olds made about 200 sets of dohc 4 valve heads for Can-Am racing that never got sanctioned. R&D was making 700 hp on regular gas now that's a ROCKET ... and 900+hp was predicted for can-am. Does anyone know what happened to those heads?

  • Great song for all you amateur guitarists to play along with--C F C G throughout. Your friends will be impressed--especially if you're just starting to play.

  • 73 Cutlass S Hurst/Olds 455....

  • Always liked this song.

  • Summer is coming.... this is one of the great summer songs; you can add it to your MP3 summer mix; be sure to turn up the volume....! Even the cops said "Man - what chu got in that thing?" It's a 455 Rocket.......

  • my first car was a 1970 oldsmobile cutlass. Don't tell me americans cannot make cars.

  • @jclifftone50 - There is nothing I enjoy more than beating a Toyota off the line at a red light in my Pontiac. =)

  • @jclifftone50

    About 1979,they ForGot How.......

  • @jclifftone50

My first car was a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale. Mmmmmm

  • @jclifftone50 Well, USED to could make a car. ... I own an American truck, but American cars have largely been disappointing since the musclecar era.

  • @jclifftone50 Right on, Brother!

  • @jclifftone50 olds made about 200 455's with double overhead cams intended for can- am racing. they were pumping 900 horsepower with their prototypes, and were ready to relaease street versions with 750 hp in 442's. but the insurance industry made that impossible.

NOW THAT WOULD BE A ROCKET!

  • @jclifftone50

    In 1970, they did.

  • @FireYourJOB : Affirmative!

  • @jclifftone50 LOL...I CAME HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL IN ONE!!! how ironic is THAT????

  • Always loved this song cause I grew up in a 1968 delta custom with a 455 rocket. And in fact the guy that owns it now offered to give it back to me, I just need a place to put it lol. So I hope to have it in my garage soon, and some restore videos posted in a few weeks

  • i wonder how many annoying ricers can a 455 olds eat for lunch in a day?

  • @dalekrueger not enough man lol i have a 85 cutlass with a 455 rocket one mean machine lol

  • I also had a 70 Delta 88 with the standard 350, and that thing was a rocket too. Great cars. A friend of mine had the same model with the 455 and he used to tow this big camper trailer with it, one of those big silver looking things, and he claimed he could swiftly pass semi trucks on a two lane highway, going up a steep grade. No problem.

  • @Rudyboots1 THERE'S A 70 CUTLASS S for sale in my neighborhood for less than 3k. I haven't checked it out yet...I saw it on a used car lot on sunday. I want it sooooo bad, but for that price, it needs work I don't want to get into right now. but what a cool car!!!

  • Love this song! Car songs are far and few between these days. They could have picked a better Olds for the video. Maybe a blue '70 442 with a 455, the cam in those made it sound like "she's missin". Does anyone know what GTO really stand for? Go To Oldsmobile! My dad bought a '57 Olds Super 88 with the J2 engine. I think thats when I first became a gearhead. BTW the first american car was the 1898 Oldsmobile. RIP Oldsmobile, Plymouth, and Pontiac. .

  • I had a '73 olds98 with the 455. This song is very true to life and really cool. Cars today just don't compare at all, wish everyone could drive one of those just once. Really was a Rocket, average 5 mpg, 7 on the highway. 85 mph at about 2000 rpm.

  • @Rudyboots1 our county highway dept had a red olds98 and my dad seen it get spun around in reverse in the middle of a road one day going 35mph in reverse, by the bridge crew foreman

  • @dalekrueger a farmer was going by right then a say all that,he asked the bridge crew,"whos that crazy sonofabitch?",they told him"it's just that new guy"

  • My favorite car was my 1979 Sedan DeVille Cadillac 425 V8 7.0 litre engine.

Drag raced a kid in a Camaro and left him sitting at the bottom of the hill.

When he caught up with me he looked shocked at how fast something so big could go so fast.

In 1995 traded it for a pick up truck god still miss that big old boat fun to drive and if the backseat could talk the windows would steam over from the stories. LOL.

  • i rem this song. kool car

  • I had a 455 in a 1971 delta 88, it would cruise at 120 mph, but if you took a corner faster than 40 mph you were dead

  • Please, it was a tank! You would have to blow it up to dent it. LOL

I had a Bonneville with the same engine.

  • I just LOVE this video! Thanks! Where can I downlaod a copy?????

  • youtube downloader. type thisin to your search engine and go from there

  • Thanks Heaps! Excellent!!!!

  • They don't make cars like this anymore.

  • i had a friend with a 455 442. awesome!

For those who don't know...Olds made about 200 double overhead cam 4 valve 455's as test engines for nascar and can- am. their engineers had them making over 900 horsepower on their first try, and could easily have made a reliable 700+ horsepower for the street. Now THAT would be a rocket!

  • i had a 81 olds ninety eight regency that came with a 307 a friend of mine gave me a 455 rocket to stuff down in it omfg you talk about a monster that car would scream up the road

  • about the only thing that 307 was good for was as a boat anchor!

    Rock(et) on my friend!

  • lol actually mine ran great but it was just wore out like you said good for nothing more then an anchor

  • cool combo tho

  • the 59 olds in the begining had a 371 rocket, 455's werent invented in 59

  • You know when it's good. And Baby, This Is Goood!

  • This reminds me of my first car, a 65 olds.....double barrel, 5 brand new Good year tires. power doors, power windows, primo condition.

I paid $250 bucks for her.

this song brings it all back :)
