i am agreee when we talk about dance.........3 names are shimmring and most prominent.......MADHURI DIXIT..................MEENAKS­HI SHESHADRI.............AND SRI DEVI...........i dnt think even heema malini vejinthemala or anyother can compete these 3 dancers cum beauty queens.........among all of them meenakshi was most non-prominent and underarted n badly treated by media.which is so sad.

In bollywood Meenakshi is best bhrat natyam dancer...even ahead of vijyantimala,hemamalini, sridevi & others and the reason is bharatnatyam is unisexual fire dance..it represnts both the masculine & feminine aspects ; lyasa for feminine grace & tandava for masculine agility...and only meenakshi bring out both these qualities...the other dancer seems bit more femminine...

@teenbauwa see bollywood dance doesnot conform to any particular style...it is basically a free style dancing u can say...(nowadays it looks like aerobics)..

meenakshi is a higly accomplished classical dancer...of the 6 classical dances she is fluent in 3 of them : Kathak,oddisi & Bharatnatyam...

but no she is not underrated..experts in Bollywood knows that she is our most accomplished dancer...n Madhuri & Sridevi to be the best film dancer...

I agree with you on that. What I mean is that the masters of this art/industry insiders know how good Meenakshi is at dancing but I think she is not talked about as much as others by the media/public in general.

To ringarose85: I am a dancer myself and have seen classical dancers sitting within 20 feet (from Bali in which the dancing is like Indian). SriDevi could not learn to dance as she does without classical training for hours at a time. I don't know what interview you are talking about, but it sounds like perhaps modesty at best. And of course neither of these two are as good as those in older dance scenes. One of the best examples is in the original version of Chori Chori--black and white.

SriDevi is clearly a classically trained dancer. That means 6 hours a day of everything from finger and hand movements to leg, body, feet, and yes, even eye movements. It's the fingers that give it away. The real dancers and the amateurs..

michrigan, Nazgul is right. Sridevi herself said in her interview that she was not classically trained. She only picked it up in the journey of her acting career. Thats how talented and versatile an artiste she is. Meenakshi was a trained classical dancer hence technically has better executions of her dance, whereas Sri did not have formal training but still was a fab dancer more a charismatic one. A Fab actress as well.

well everyone up here comparing meenakshi n sridevi....of course meenakshi would be better because she is well trained classical dancer. there's a perfection in her every movement, a perfect beginning and perfect end. however sridevi is not a classical dancer she did not learn any type of classical dances. though she dance here very well not only in this movie but few more.... the comparison here is illogical... we should appreciate sridevi for dare trial on tandav.. hats off sri ji...

@errolmiranda as a dancer don't think anyone was as good as minashree, minakshri was just highly trained in 6 different styles, however sridevi was best bharatnatyam dancer after minakshri. sri was a very good charistmatic dancer.

No one beats Vaijayanti Mala, Hema Malini or Sri devi when ti comes to classical dancing. No one matches their skills at all. Great performance done by Sri Devi.

@bisleria Don't forget Meenakshi is a trained and professional Bharatnatyam dancer and Sri is not. Sri does not have any professional training BN or Kathak. Yet she shines 100%

@bisleria unfair comparison, Meenakshi Seshadri was trained in Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi dance from a very young age where as Sri never took any formal dance lessons. So this is pure hardwork and dedication. But I have to agree, Meenakshi did one fab job.
