I think they over-exaggerate the calories burned. At 5' 3" & 160lbs, how can I lose 1050 calories in 1 hour with a HR Avg of 175??? That seems a littttleee too high. If it really is true, FANTASTIC!!! Otherwise, wouldn't I be pretty fit by now???
@darkkromance I think it is actually pretty close. 175BPM is pretty high. I am late 30s and my max HR is 182. When I am at 175 I am *working*. If you go to mayo clinic dot com they have a list of activities and calories burned per hour. It say Tae Kwon Do is 937 cal/hour. That is basically kenpo x. Also - average 175? peak 175 ok, but average? sounds too high.
@cypresscollectibles My average is usually 160-170. My peak gets up to 199-200 sometimes because of the HIIT workouts. But what I mean is that I don't think i would be burning over 1000 calories in just one hour of TurboFire. Maybe 800 max, but I don't think any more than that.
Great video. I'm about to start p90x and is recommended to have a good HRM. Spent the last few days trying to find a decent watch and this one seems really good.
@cypresscollectibles I use it for cycling, anywhere from 20-70 miles each ride. But I can't figure out how to record different (separate) times on same ride. E.G. -- ride out is 30 miles and then we stop for 20 minutes. I want to save that data (HR avg/peak and cal burn) without writing it down and then starting over. I'd like to store 2-3 time periods without resetting for each. I'll bet its pretty simple (splits??), but I can't figure it out. Thx!
can it do a separate timer while the chrono is going? like if i want to time my workout, but also have like a 45 second countdown timer for in between sets when lifting weights?
I have a Timex T5G971, the calories burned seems very inaccurate. 205lb male, 20min jog on treadmill (1.75miles), 45min weights (5machines, 3sets each machine), and 10min on step-mill (50 floors). Timex T5G971 says i burned over 1800 calories, seems a little hard to believe. Any ideas?
@eddiefromnyc I've had this heart rate monitor since January 2010 and it still works perfectly. Whatever model you decide on, make sure it's one with a chest strap. The other versions simply don't work as well.
@cypresscollectibles I bought this same watch... thanks for the video...saved me the time of reading that book.... now I have one question....it came in a box, it was already turned on and when I put the strap around my chest the heart filled in and it started giving me the BPM.... now I am wondering how to disconnect it from the strap so its not constantly looking for a signal? im sure its wasting the battery right now right? well as im writing this the empty heart went away? is it off now?
@Jneg84 Sometimes mine doesn't work with some exercises like yoga because my arms are too far away. If thats not the case it has done this to me a few times but in a few minutes it usually gets it right. If not maybe try wetting your chest under the monitor. It works well with water or sweat to make the rate come through.
Great tips, thank you. Just received the Sportline sport duo 1025 for Christmas and had no idea how to use the chest strap (you're right, the manual only confused me) or how or even what the chrono feature does. You explained everything I wanted to know!
Great, to-the-point video. How about doing one on getting the IRONMAN's data into the PC for tracking it on a monthly basis or however. I have the USB link and a PEAK training software, but the same Chinese manual applies. ??????????? confusion.
This was the best info I've found so far on timex HRM anywhere on the web. Here's the question that led me to this video:
My Timex HRM says that it will save the last 10 workouts. As far as I can tell it will only save the 1 last workout in Chrono mode and the last workout in Interval mode. What gives? Anyone else experience this? Am I doing something wrong?

@stutij Go to the HRM-SETUP by pressing the mode button. Once there, cycle through until you get to the final option, which is Alarm, and you can toggle it on/off so it doesn't beep when you are out of the zone.
Thank you soooooooo much - this was extremely helpful!

'preciate the lesson.
as you said: the tiny instruction booklet with the tiny font takes a fair amount of effort to decrypt.
this timex is several steps above the schwinn model that's now resting quietly in my locker.

I am trying to decide which model to go with...which one would you recommend? I'm looking to spend around $60.
how is the battery life for this watch, how often do you need to change them? does the strap use the same small battery as the watch?
