The Lighting is a legend, and very fast indeed, the SVT Contour, IDK, but yes, it is very ironic to know that there are a bunch of familial cars that can get to a higher top speed. Still, I enjoy my GT very much, and have never been in a race where I lost due to running into my Governor.
I posted about that, check the other comments. In my case, that's as far as it goes, you can hear and see the car hit an imaginary wall at that speed, I didn't chicken out, I kept the gas pedal down, and my car didn't want to go any faster. You can always record your car and provide proof of your different top speed, though. Not saying that I doubt it, because there have been others stating the same, but it would be cool to watch other videos of top speed runs.
My car is restricted to that speed, but if it weren't it would reach a higher top speed. It was still pulling when it hit the governor, and there was the 6th gear left. I feel a little envy when there are cars that aren't governed, like your friend's.
My brother, in other cars it's easy, but for the 4G, Mitsu really turned the ECU into a tuner's nightmare. There are at least two tuners trying to override the ECU and after all these years (the car launched in 2005), they haven't come with a way to beat the governor or the RPM limits in a confident way. If you know someone that can do it, tell him/her there are many people that will pay him/her to do it in their cars.
i just took my 2009 gt today to 136mph. i'll try again next week and break the 140 barrier. heard it can go upto 145mph. like the canadian version, my speedometer goes only upto 200kph but will keep track on the digital mph display.

No, the car is totally stock, I checked the Light and it turned out to be a bad catalytic, so I "emptied" both cats and deleted the rear one. The light stayed on, maybe because of that, maybe because of a bad O2 sensor. I haven't checked that light again. Thanks for watching!!

It's an 06. I have heard and read about other cars cutting later than mine. One friend told me that his car cut at 135 stock, but with I/H/E he was able to cut at about 140 or a little more, so maybe the mods help. But if your car is stock, yet cuts at 145, maybe my car is restricted for my country (Puerto Rico).
I find it ironic that a 1998 ford svt contour with just 195hp will hit 143, and a Lightning...yes a TRUCK, will hit 139 10 years ago....

i remember hitting 130mph in my 2000gt with no problem, maybe could had done top speed 140....soon i will be swaping the 6g75 into it

my buddy has an 03or 04 eclipse automatic with slap shift and i had it pushing 252km/h this summer, only thing on it is a 3.5'' magnaflow exhaust

I have a cold air intake on my 08 eclipse gt and my service engine "light" is on...is that why yours are on too? or is it something else?
