No, I'm not a drummer. But I think it's a bit stupid to think just because your not a drummer, you don't know when you see an amazing drummer and awesome talent. I've played with and heard many drummers in my 30+ years of playing, and Mangini is a monster. Sounds like Jeff Waters is thoroughly impressed with Mike here and Jeff KNOWS great musicians being one himself. No, Mangini is not a metal drummer per se but can cover it easily. dude, c'mon man. He's so much more than "just fast with all single strokes". He clearly has a niche style of drumming. He's had the luxury of carving his own way through music and hasn't had to deal with "contemporary gigging". He's a truly unique drummer and one might argue that makes him more of an artist than the "chameleon drummers" who gig in a more contemporary scene. I'm not saying one way or the other (and no I'm not a huge mangini fan either) but I appreciate what he does

Really fast, yes he is, but the thing is that that's not all there is. He's very sharp at polyrythms, has speed and great control (rarely misses what he wants to hit) and endurance (endurance world-record with double feet). Plus a good sence of creativity, and on top of this he is a great showman, always having contact with his audience while playing.

That's what I keep asking people too. I've listened to so much of Jordisons stuff through friends and such, and never has anything jumped out at me that seemed especially fast or even interesting.

Its just his fame, combined with the fact that it's the first time many people heard fast double bass. It's fast and crazy for people who don't know what fast and crazy is.
