Every time and I mean every time I saw this tenor he cracked all over the place. His Calaf was painful and as for his Verdi singing the least said, for me I was always disappointed.
It was a good voice but his pitch was suspect. Most of his live recording show a lack of style and problems in the highest part of his voice. His recording of Fancuilla with Tebaldi is painfull.
SIMPLY SUPERB. I cannot complain. Although I don't believe he's Italian, he had a warm Italianate sound, that coveted sob, a pure legato line, and clean notes--one of the best Recondita Armonia, not simply because it's technically superior to most, but also because it's effective without being too passionate.
I agree with you forallyouknow,Konya has a warm Italianate timbre and a great legato line. And I love thelittle Italian sob between 1:15 and 1:22 here. For a singer of his quality,I was surprised at the relative paucity of his recordings.Anyway,he's a fine tenor.Bravo e mille grazie Sandor!
I once saw Sandor Konya perform. He sang Radames to Leontyne Price's incredible Aida. She she had just blazed on the scene as Aida, so I remember here more. But it was a chance to hear this unusual singer live--Konya had a diversified repertoire and a good if not great voice.
Great role model for singers!

A voice of Gigli-like beauty, used with musical elegance.
It's touching to see him in old age.
