Selena Gomez's version is actually quite good in that while it has the fun poppy sound that Disney seems to think makes everything better these days, it maintains a slightly creepy sound.

The original is pure gold, of course, and I agree with what crocoshocker says about Cruella's villany being downplayed.

That being said, I have to say the new verse starting at 1:25 of part 2 was a fun surprise. The new versions are really just good fun in general, and even though I usually hate pop remakes of classic disney, I think these all do a pretty good job. (except for the Hayden Panettiere version. That pretty much embodies everything I hate about pop disney)

What I liked in the first two versions, and gets lost later on, is that cruella is a classic disney villain. What I mean is that Roger in the cartoon and than John after him sang about Cruella as a frightening monster, "We're singing about the boogeyman-Er, woman. It's scary." The later versions didn't have that vibe, and the "It's fun to call her a bitch" vibe emphasized. I know Cruella's no horror villain but the only new version I'd want to see would be by an undead Vincent Price.

Why is it that half of these singers miss the rhythm of the verse "wholesome place UNTIL, Cruella, Cruella De Vil" The forget to emphasize the word UNTIL so that line just doesn't work. Un-til and De-Vil! Come on! It makes me so nuts to hear them repeatedly miss that.

Honestly, I still prefer the original and Dr. John's myself over all the others, but the actual music in Selena's version rocks. If we got that kind of music and someone who could sing it that could really stick to the original, I'd be happy. Something about how Selena pulls a Martha Stuart on "DE-Vil" instead of "Dah-vil" bugs me. All of them are pretty good to be honest, but I really prefer the original and Dr. John's the most.

Well done video. Thanks. No reason the original has to be the best, and sometimes it isn't, but in this case it is. The covers here are over-produced and their alterations more often mask than amplify the groove and wit of the original. It is de vil, not "dee" vil, and "until" (not "place") is the rhyme to "de vil."

I dunno... I like the other remakes, but I think the more jazz/blues theme of the original composition fits best for the tune - doing it in a more pop style doesn't capture it quite right. That's why the Dr. John version is definitely my favorite version, even moreso than the original.

Lalaine's was plain rubbish. Hayden's gets irritating. It sounds like she's being tortured to squeeze out the lyrics. But maybe that was the effect she was trying to go for?

all the rock/pop ones are sort of automatic fail because it doesn't fit with the lyrics at all. Those lyrics are best with the semi-creepy tone of the original.

I don't really like how Skye Sweetnam started hers...kinda not into it as much, but then when the backup singers come up "Cruella, cruella" it sounds so catchy.

The background sound of Hayden's version kind of gets annoying after a while, but I like the way she sings "devil" for some reason.

I enjoy the original because it's funny and can't be beat

But my fave of the remixes is Selena Gomez's- it just really sounds like a "Cruella de Vil" song, and has nice energy.

Okay, it seems that everyone disagrees with me! Or well since I am writing now I disagree with everyone! Simply put... I would order them, most to least favorite:

Cleaned Original then Dr. John then Sky Sweetnam's, then Selna Gomez and Hayden Panettier's.

I left out the in-movie version, although it is good, I find it hard to rate with movie sounds, particularly since it is dialog heavy. Still all good singers, and nice to hear the differences.

the origonal is the total best no doubt. i really hate the fact that all the disney pop stars decided to make it a non-jazz song. its just terrible with guitars and an annoying singers high pitched voice. the original has true rythm and swing to it. a deep, jazz voice makes it good, not a high pitched one.
