  • Cis B D... pling pling pling... What a theme, its so great!!!

  • Her fingers are rather flat and she moves a little much, but other than that, beautiful job! Two thumbs up!

  • Sounds beautiful

  • Minha interpretação favorita desta música

  • beautiful. touching.

  • Bella interpretazione, complimenti.

  • So beautifully played!

.. Exito!!

  • Simply put: Beautiful!

  • As often, music and interpretation you should defnititely listen to ...and not watch. Watching it is despertaingly desparating.

  • how can be negative votes for Brahms intermezzo? those 24 ppl can lick my poop up.

  • I wish I knew ANY song I could play or sing (or write) with that kind of tenderness and expertise.

any song at all and I'm glad I can at least appreciate someone else when they step up and play. I'm grateful to have ears and a tiny sensibility...for a song.

  • A lovely interpretation. Your playing is warm, deep and sincere.

I'd prefer less prolonging of beat 1 in the early "A" section, and more inflection in the left hand slurs. Unlike TheKoreanPikachu, I admire your relative steadiness, and avoidance of exaggerated rubato! (But these are just personal views.)

Your "B" section was just shining in the treatment of counter-melodies and ambiguous rhythms..

Thank you for playing, and putting the "romance" back into "Romantic"!

  • beautiful.

  • hot chick. dull performance.

  • I hate to argue and I'm not putting her down, but I think the tempo is stiff and unwilling to move. I love when this song has the slow and fast moments that pull on your heartstrings. The drama, the quietly spoken fastpaced action that is sung through the melody is gorgeous; but a musician is an artist. And an artist may do as he or she pleases.

  • Thumbs up for the snoring guy in the background

  • i think this piece has an well deserved need for simplicity which this pianist gives it

  • I really like the tempo here--the piece is so elegiac, and this passionate interpretation is stately without becoming bogged down in treacle.

  • Ms Guevara you play this so beautifully its unreal!, very tasty interpertation with great passion!

  • well done...happy 200th mexico!

  • awkward??? Nonsense! She's lovely and a beautiful performance.

  • I can't look at her play. I like the sound she is getting from the piano and her feelings that she communicates but she does look awkward doing this.

  • citlali!!! ex salon victoria!!! me enkantas!!!

  • This Was Beautiful. I'm Learning This Piece Right Now . And I Want To Try To Put All My Time Into It Just Because I Like The Way That 1:34 to 1:47 Sounds . Heheh , Kind Of Silly , But Thats My Motivation . The Beauty Of The Sound . =]

  • Esecuzione molto sentita e piena di poesia. Complimenti.

  • good, but hard to watch her moving around, which has so little to do with the music

  • It has absolutely everything to do with the music. Too bad you can't understand that. Listening to music is a much richer experience if you do.

  • @laname323, all the kids are doing it these days. The previous generations threw their arms up in the air and sent their coat-tails flying (all except the blesséd Bolet), and this generation rows a boat on an infinite sea. I honestly think they're teaching the girls to row at conservatories throughout the world right now.

  • This is beautiful, but the best live performance I have ever heard of this piece was as an encore by the American pianist Roger McVey, after an all-Liszt program.

  • WOWW!!

  • This is a logical tempo .It depends on what he performer is doing what tempo they chose . She has great tonal variety & after a difficult concerto she gave an audience a beautiful late melody .something they might remember. Pogorelich recorded this slower than is almost possible !

  • I think she does a very nice job; it's different from what I'm used to hearing, but I think her interpretation is consistent and makes sense, and her playing, though not as passionate as some, is elegant and beautiful.

  • @luyingwan With respect, do you really believe it is the musician's job to "make you feel something"?

  • Im just saying her body movement seemed awkward at times and it was distracting...and as a musician/performer, it is her job to express the emotions she feels for the music to the audience accurately through her performance and because of her awkward body movements (nervous-looking shoulders) and finger gesture, I have a hard time connecting the performance (not just about the music) to the beautiful music she has delivered. So yes it is her job to make the audience feel connected.

  • @luyingwan

Actually she's one of the most passive mucisians. Some others seem like they're going to decapitate themselves while playing, whereas she's very calm, and her movements are gentle.

  • @ReynaAlacrana "decapitate" -- never heard it described quite so accurately! Good show.

  • Undeniably beautiful and refined... But I agree with cinemadelica, for me it lacks a bit of depth.

I've heard it said these late Brahms pieces are a reflection on life and death, and I didn't hear any of that in her playing...

  • Magnifique!!

    J.-P. H.

  • Maravillosa! Me encanta

  • It's okay. I like this piece to be a little deeper and majestic overall, with the tenderness saved for certain touches. Just personal preference.

  • davvero ben suonato..e poi il pezzo è meraviglioso..

  • I like your fingering, it's really beautiful!~

  • I really admire you, you're really awesome!! =] your gesture and expression is just right, and I like your style as well. I think your edition is better than any of the recordings I've heard before. add oil~~ ^^

    Teresa Chow

  • Just started learning this piece, returning to piano after 10 yrs. Have viewed multiple video performances of this and like the tempo here best.

She did a beautiful job... very touching rendition

  • This piece is not technically very difficult. But it is certainly difficult to play this as well as Citlalli (check out Lugansky's performance at La Roque d'Anthéron, she is very much better than Lugansky).

A beautiful performance; Brahms would have approved.

  • I realize it's a slow piece but this is the slowest i've ever heard it....picking up the tempo just a bit would be an improvement

  • Because it is a live recording, hall conditions come into play for tempo consideration. If it's very wet acoustically, to play it slower is a wise decision. Dry halls one would have to play it something like this faster, so it's hard to judge her by just this recording.

  • I just finished this piece... she does a wonderful job! a lot of people want this piece to go a lot faster, but any faster and the emotion would fade... when I play it, I try to keep in mind what Brahms had written, but I also play it how it feels it should be played

  • She is definitely not playing Brahms at 4.10

  • ????... what do you mean? u mean the way she played it is not in the style of brahms ?

  • I mean she is not playing what is written in the score. She plays beautiful though.

  • oooh ok..well i was about to attempt this pice so i didnt really know how it was suppose to sound

  • I like how she plays, but I thought it was too slow with the exception of the 2 to 3 part (2:37).

  • too beautiful, impossible to not cry for me .. during all this piece, love it so much , thx !!!! ;-|)

    *****

  • my orchestra teacher made his own version to fit our orchestra and it is amazing! Of course the piano piece is better because it's the original, but with the feeling of a great orchestra playing it, it is AMAZING!

  • people make little mistakes here and there; it's what the music (the player, i should say) can make the audience feel is what is important.

    :]

  • Oh come on guys. She is making love to that piano!

  • oh and her left hand. what's up with that? her bridge isn't looking too good

  • it's not whether you make a mistake or not. it's how you recover from it. i find her interpretation was beautiful. her voicing is top-notch as well as her dynamics. the only thing i hate about pianists these days is their posture. is it so hard to sit straight? i have no difficulty...

  • her posture is one of an excellent pianist and she is getting deep into the beautiful music...but i agree- some pianists have bad posture. i move when I play and if not I sit straight.

  • She plays expressively, but why reverse so many of Brahms dynamics? Brahms was meticulous with his directions to the pianist. A better pianist might be able to make a more convincing interpretation without such drastic alteration to the text.

  • However, it's such a beautiful piece that I think it's less a matter of pianistic skills and more a matter of musicianship.

Honesty is important in any art form, and I think betraying your own instincts so as to follow Brahms' meticulous directions could detract from your performance.

I like this one, but personally prefer my own interpretation (lol, how humble =P), but I think that's the beauty of this piece: it's so deeply personal almost any interpretation can tear at your heart-strings.

  • I'm learning this piece right now!!! i can understand what BHCD is saying... notewise this piece isn't TOO difficult (however it isn't easy) but making it actual music is what makes this piece worth a professional recording... and this young lady did it gorgeously!

  • i have the sheet music to this song and it's imposible. this chicks pro

  • How can someone really tell if she made a mistake... the music is beautimus, but what do I know.. I'm just a wannabe player! LOL

  • Amazing interpretation. Only a woman can do it like that.

  • Whether or not that's a good thing we'll never know.

  • soo NOT true.

  • my future wife.. lol.

  • Congratulations:)

  • Wonderful performance by a beautiful young woman. Thanks for sharing !

  • this is so hard to play really well, but she did a great job.

  • oh my god, amazing performance, EXCEPT, the chords section after the first triplet section, was soooo stagnant and had no direction. a few mistakes after that. but hey, the rest was very very nice, pleasant, and heartfelt. as the piece is

  • Hmm, I wouldnt' say stagnant, but the voicing is very difficult to hear in this bad recording. Also, sounds like the piano is a little tinny. A well prepped Steinway would have a much fuller sound on Brahms.

  • I can't find any good info on this great pianist! Is it all in Spanish? Not fair!

Amazingly prolific...she can play anything! The way she gallops across the keyboard is fantastic. Most wonderful sound!

  • I just heard this piece at a recital today and ....WOW!!! If this doesn't give you goosebumps or cause you to tear up, I don't know what does. This is the meaning of true beauty.

  • This is the most beautiful piece ever written in my opinion. No question. You play it beautifully, too.

I have a strange question, though: Is this on stage with the Kansas City Symphony? I think I recognized one of the players but I wasn't sure.

  • Gorgeous, beautifully played i hope I can play it half as good as you

  • A nice job, but for my taste, too much "piano" and not enough "pianist". The heartbreak in this piece is in its unexpected lightness of touch. Heavy-handing it threatens to make portentous what should be at once tragic and simple.

  • Very well played, beautifully expressive and obviously a very emotional connection to the piece!!

  • Goosebumps

  • i swear this music is better than chocolate! yum, i love it!

  • This is a very beautiful interpretation, but it's not as easy to listen to when one is not watching the video. Sometimes it feels like the music is dragging behind tempo. Also, I feel that there is sometimes the accompaniment competes with that oh-so-gorgeous melody. Try the Neuhaus version.

    With all that said, BRAVO!!!!

  • omg, i cant stop listening to this....

  • BRAVO BRAVO!!!

I'd like to congratulate this great pianist personally, she's amazing!! This is the way to play this pieces beginner pianists!!! We must to learn from her :)

  • this is a very professional performance. im not sure if ive heard of a better interpretation. its well paced, well phrased, and very well played. bravo!

  • Toca bien.

    Arriba Citlalli. ¿Tocas Schönberg?

  • The tempo is perfect. It just feels right. Any faster than this and you wouldn't be able to capture thos little moments where the music almost falls over the barline and from one harmony to another.

  • Beautiful performance.

  • lol, this song was meant to be rubato, y do people think its supposed to go faster

  • She plays beautiful, but it is too much rubato and too much mincing (gemaniëreerd in Dutch). So many pianists do this nowadays. The tempo is just too slow. More parlando, in my opinion.

  • This is the best interpretation of this work I've heard

  • @joaquindalessio listen the glen gould's....

  • You are musical, continue working on technique. I really enjoyed your playing!

  • This goes on my BRAHMS AS NOSFERATU playlist.

I feel you listening carefully and making pretty sounds with something approach a defined affect...but I don't feel you"feeling it"...nor do I feel myself "feeling it".

What I do feel is that as soon as something good starts to happen in your play...you rein it in,on the leash of propriety. This music cannot survive the regularity imposed upon it by propriety....because it's all about indecent feelings.

  • This is beautiful. The few mistakes are totally irrelevant. This is making music. I take my hat off for this lady.

  • Oh! you have a connection to Brahms spirit? Give me his mobile number... have a few questions for him.

  • I love her feeling

  • as good as it gets

  • Lovely and thoughtful playing. I adore Brahms. I love the intimacy of this Intermezzo. This is my favourite. How he weeps, but then, there are those glorious sun-kissed moments too! Wonderful!

    Blessings ever....

    Phillip Wilcher

  • and i think that she played with too high of wrists...ok i'm sorry i'm so mean, but i'm picky, but i LOVED the color, very gorgeous

  • i think she played it very well with the interpretation but she played with flat fingers, which is not the best thing, but overall it was very nice. (i have a thing about playing with flat fingers)

  • This is absolutely gorgeous... it looks like her fingers aren't even touching the keys. Beautiful performance.

  • Yes! She is the only person I have seen so far who played the 2:37 section at the appropriate speed!!

  • 2:37? Isn't that how fast/slow it normally is? How else have people been playing?

  • i play the piece differently, but this is a suPERB performance. plus i'm not the professional.

Nevsky...

  • i dont know what any of you are talking about. this is the best performance of this piece i have seen on youtube

  • @musicianppl112 kissin...

  • @musicianppl112 Maybe that's because you saw it.

  • she made a mistake @ 4:11//

    nice performance overall, though.

  • I think it's a little bit slow.Always compare the first part's tempo with the second part!Be careful the wrong notes!

  • hmmm...i am quite impressed

this is probably my favorite intermezzo..nice slow tempo..leaves a lot of room for expression

    5 stars wooooo

  • it is andante teneramente! so you can't run through this piece! in my opinion it's ok! but check out the nice legato she is playing! very good!

  • WOW~! Expressive~!!

  • Too much slow, maybe. But musical.

  • tempo is perfect, but some parts are very soft.

  • Yes, most parts are just the right speed, but others are a little slowed and too in time. I know that's a good thing, but this is an expressive piece and there has to be some character and vibrance put into it. This is one of my favorites to play.

  • Yeah is great piece, i love play it too. Its easy to execute, but itsnt easy to interpret. Do not you believe that she has a small mistake of execution near the end? between 4:10 and 4:15, or it is only my hearing. A greeting.

  • 2:37 she did a beautiful job with that part though. I have to give her that :)

  • This is a very musical performance, I think i would have loved it far more if it was a little faster in certain spots..

  • Wonderful attention to voicing and color - don't forget that even though Brahms grew up in Hamburg, he was Viennese in his heart!

  • the way you play the piano is so delicate and beautiful. this is such an amazing piece, and you play it with so much emotion, it's perfect.

  • I'm learning it now

it's not that easy but I love to listen to it and love to play it

  • I practice this music too,but my play way too bad if compare to her though, her one completely a master piece, love it!!

  • wow i am very impressed. but i think sometimes she tries to be too careful and in those few sections that wariness takes away from her musicality a little.

  • Simply the best

  • Now THIS is music.

  • simply great!

  • A beautiful performance by a very beautiful lady! Thanks for posting Citlalli, you are gorgeous!

  • Excellent piece, I found free sheet music for it on sheetmusicfox DOT com and absolutely love it!

  • I love this one, this is one of the best pieces which i love and can play well on piano.

  • I think i'm in love !

  • Thank you for enabling me to enjoy this marvellous performance!

  • This is so beautiful! and so perfect! Tears come to my eyes every time I listen to this beautiful performance by Ms Guevara...

  • jador...

  • one of the most beautiful Brahms I ever heard - just magic

  • ohmygod. she puts so much into this. i am so impressed.

  • my favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pretty !!!!beautiful!!!!

  • Great pulse. Very genuine and intimate. Tear-pullingly beautiful.

  • Brahms captured in every nuance. Perfect and beautiful as the old man himself would agree I'm sure.

Even with the poor recording quality, the performers brilliance still shines. Just makes the listener reach a bit more for it. It's all good.

  • Citlalli, it's really beautiful! Your playing is gorgeous and your dress fantastic! Much love, Nina.

  • Brahms wrote the most beautiful piano compositions of all IMO. He must have had some big hands though. I have a hell of a time with his stretches.

  • I think that this tempo is fine, as long as there is tension and resolution. She has that inner pushing, and her musical intent seems sincere. Keep in mind, Brahms composed this in one of his last years after he had "given up composing." I agree with tehmaine; I think Brahms would have played his heart out :-)

  • you guys know this was written about one of his love afairs right...?

  • La belleza en conjunto.

  • Robo, I think this is the way Brahms would have played it. It's a romantic piece, with a bit of mystery. She plays it perfectly.

  • Actually, I think it could be a wee bit faster. This tempo has the effect of seeming to go on forever and just sort of sit. But otherwise, I like it.

  • Simply the best playing on this piece on YouTube. Everyone else seems to play it too fast and not soft enough. This one is wonderful.

  • Very good esecution but I don't agree with IceSkateMelis, structure piece born to have esecution soft and slow but better don't exasperate this way, risk to be monotone. Anyway 5/5.
