You might have waited your whole life for this reunion, but this concert was more like a wine tasting for a group of alcoholics -- Anything would do, and nobody had a trained pallet to know better.

Sorry Champagne, but it's you that are confused. As a die hard fan of Van Halen back before Dave left, I can tell you this was not an improvement with age. Even Ed's guitar solo was lackluster, prompting him to pause, cover his face and yell "Stop!" at the audience chanting his name -- as if he knew he didn't deserve it. Dave wasn't improvising on the melodies -- He was compromising for not having the same range.
Saw the Van Halen with Roth show in Chicago last Thursday. To all of you who always hated Sammy singing classic Van Halen -- Roth can't sing them anymore himself. His voice is not what it once was, and he often struggled or changed the melody because he couldn't hit the notes anymore.

I am so glad Michael Anthony is doing this. Like I said in the other post. Mike should have taken over lead in '98 when Sam and Dave both left (got fired). This Mike/Sammy thing just proves that Ed and Alex were the problem. I hope Dave survives the 3 Van Halen boys when they (hopefully) tour this year.
One of these days somebody's gonna post a video where you can hear MIke's bass.

Michael Anthony is a good bass player. But he sounds like a bad karaoke singer. He sounds better than I would... but he should give up the vocals.
