  • If your think alot harder, would you go alot faster?

  • AND they hired a villan to test it. lol

  • Very impressive. Although the device is not exactly controlled by thoughts. It is controlled by electrical signals sent to the muscles of the vocal chords from the brain. Therefore, it is controlled by thoughts in roughly the same sense that playing pong is controlled by thoughts, since the thoughts control the hand that controls the joystick. I would not think that a locked-in individual would have the ability to control the muscles of their vocal chords enough for a device like this to work...

  • Fake video.

  • i think its far from fake. Toyotas has Mind-Controlled Wheelchair so it is doable

  • next vid will be thought control wheelchair fail ,over the edge of grand canyon

  • I know him and interviewed him for a project. All of these demonstrations are 100% real.

  • Looks like he was veering into the wall as he tried to head off down the corridor. Maybe you can only execute one control at a time. Steering while moving would be the next logical step.

Check out the world's first 'voiceless' phone call on newscientistvideo!

    ('FAKE!' - Hahaha...)

  • I think that it is highly unlikely that a scientist would claim to be developing an application that would help millions of disabled people. I do not see at all how he could gain from, looking at it from your cynical viewpoint, making such claims and to face certain financial ruin as well as imprisonment.

  • sapodobrasil, don't get your panties in a wad! Read what I wrote again. I'm not cynical, nor am I skeptical, I was laughing at all the plebs who write 'FAKE!' when they see a video that is blatantly REAL!!!

Also, I think that it is highly LIKELY that a scientist would claim to be developing an application that would help millions of disabled people... Here's one now!

For help with reading and writing, contact your local education authority. (That was just a joke, by the way!)

  • Please accept my apologies for not understanding the obscure aspects of irony. Trying to express humour and irony across the Internet through writing is not an easy thing to do -- as you have so deftly proved. Maybe see you at the local education Centre. (That was humour, as well, although tinged with an element of seriousness).

  • you think this is cool? check out a video also in youtube. a blind man walk around the room and point some objects using his toungue

    to see!

  • They made another version with "thought to speech" capabilities. It's no hoax.

  • Read his papers and THEN talk.

  • Yes, think about it.. it's totally possible.

  • NASA actually developed something similar to this that is being used to control robots on Mars and other stuff.

  • its not fake, I know the guy. he's a genious

  • i want one!

  • Cool set up, but have enough on my mind, think I will keep a joystick. Maybe better for a higher level quadriplegic then me.

  • LOL thinking "NO! DON'T DRIVE OFF THE CLIFF!"... ahhhh!

  • O'Doyle rules!

  • awesome

  • I think it needs more improvement.

  • nice demo, full of hope. Hopefully refinements in the system would allow petter control of the chair. (I noticed there was no turning while moving applied)

  • Please, PLEASE get this technology to Jason Becker. Can you imagine all the musical compositions trapped inside his head right now? With that speech recognition software and added mobility we will have him back.

  • I wouldn't call this thought controlled anymore than my typing this message or getting up out of my chair is thought controlled. Guess it's a semantic question, eh?

  • You are right, that is all it is, just thought controlled. They have harnessed that "thought" to control a motorized wheelchair. So that is the amazing part, not the fact that he has thoughts.

  • I don't think it's fake, though it should be really sluggish to control as it's controlled by "words"...

  • On a more frivolous note, I want to use it to send instant messages with only my mind.

  • Are you sure? It's bad enough when you say something you didn't mean to. What if you think something you didn't mean to? :)

  • I dont think it is fak! The system uses a sensor at the larynx, sensing the persons attempt to speak command words to the chair.

  • I think this is fake .. there must be someone hiding with the remote control :)

  • This could also have smart home applications too?
