My own comps, C64 - 27 years, C128 - 25 years, Amiga 500 - 22 years, Amiga 1200 - 16 years all still used on a daily basis, work without problems.

New hardware is on the way, Beta boards are starting to ship, AmigaOS4.1 is getting more updates, Open Office and Firefox are being ported, various other games and software title haven been ported or being worked on, we may be a small community but where a very active one. They are the best machine available and still offer a more responsive and speedy experience than your box of hacked together odd bits. ok so its a small user base, but a very active one, however that's just the active users, if you look at my other vids you will notice i have had over 100,000 hits on one of my amiga vids and amiga web sites regular get over 10,000 hits a day, there is another amiga related video on youtube which is getting close to the million mark. Yeah, it's totally irrelevant that a system *today* can keep up with Windows or Mac OS on far less memory. Amiga OS is maintained by Hyperion Entertainment and is currently in version 4.1. It runs on 256 megs of RAM, 400 mhz processor, 100 megs of hard drive space, and it can support 3D graphics, play/burn DVD's, of course browse the net, and all that stuff. Considering the fact that there is an open source version of Amgia that's all but user capable, it's called AROS, look it up.

I'm using an Intel Pentium, but I am running Amiga OS 4.0 under emulation, a Mac OS PowerPC emulator actually called Pear PC and even under emulation it *still* runs faster and yes it can do *all* that the other OS's do. Until you try it, how the hell do you know what Amiga can or cannot do compared to the other systems, I don't need 10,000 apps because of datatypes either, I damn near use it as my main OS, and guess what, Conflicker or any other virus can't hurt it, no worries...

I was involved in the Amiga Scene `til 2003. (the whole thing, including a german freeware Mag, Internet-forums and stuff like that). sure,I would come back THE DAY a new Amiga is available. I would bury my stupid Windumb PC. But there isn`t any - and there will be not a new one. The scene is almost dead (my Gosh even the AMINET is down - and that was an ANCHOR for us all). These videos here are semi-pro produced aggressive clips showing the Amiga in a way, that I won`t follow. sry.

Where have you been? There's plenty of options for buying a new amiga. The sam440 and 440ep, the new X1000 due in a few months, MorphOS 2x is now moving to Apple G4 Hardware (have to buy them used, but they're the fasteest "amigas" out there, atleast untill the x1000 launches... and if all else fails, AROS.

Aminet is very much alive, and so is the scene.

@AcesandTwos Its relevant today too. All Windows machines today have 640k base memory, the rest is higher memory - in addition, Windows doesn't do well with higher memory. Programmers cannot assume that when their code writes something to higher memory, that it will actually get written. Then there are the bugs present in all intel chips e.g. the fpu where it thinks that 0.99999999 = 1. The Amiga has a whole 2mb base memory, and the chips are all designed to work together really well.
