Listening to this album, and in particular "Somebody Up There Likes You" made it possible for me to survive an absolutely hellish second year in medical school. The music carried me away and made me feel that a better tomorrow was possible; it also helped me get much needed sleep without resorting to prescription meds. I have since then 'prescribed' this music to depressed and anxious patients with some success.

Simple Minds created something sublime in New Gold Dream.

The best piece of music ever written it elevates you to another dimension, takes me right back to my bedroom with girls in there kissing them shaking with nervousness lol, and when they left the smell of perfume used to eminate in the room, then just me with my imaginary drum sticks thinking i as Mel Gaynor, mum banging on the ceiling from my bass pedal. How I miss those days i truly do!

Each SM album had one great instrumental. It was way more common back then, but the instrumental died for about 20 years. Check out "Theme for Great Cities", "A Brass Band in African Chimes", and "C'moon Cry Like a Baby" - the version without the words, and you will be hooked on SM for life.
