  • Cracking Water Rail.

Conway RSPB used to have an obliging WR that would forage under the feeders next to the VC. I stopped by there recently, hoping to film it, but the reed bed had been cropped....so no "camera-ready" Water Rail was to be seen........only reed-bed skulkers on the other side of the lagoon.............ouch!

  • The swans I can film anytime during this period, but three weeks of baiting to get the water rail footage, it was worth it though

Best wish and happy new year to you and family, Richard

  • That was quite a spectacle. Are the Berwick Swans resident at Slimbridge ? I've just checked on the RSPB website and the wader at the end is a Water Rail. I'd never seen one or even heard of one before. Stunning little bird.

  • Yes it was great, They only keep a few breeding pairs at slimbridge all these were wild coming from Arctic Russia,

The water Rial was filmed at another site but it fits

    HNY and Best wishes Richard

  • Two words. SPECTACULAR and AWESOME. Lots of different species in there, love the pintail ducks and the water rail and the tufted and ... you know them too Richard. 5 and faved.

  • Seasons greetings to you and all,

Thank you very much and look forward to seeing more of your work this year.

    wassail Richard

  • Lovely video. Pity Slimbridge is so far from Cambridge.

  • Thank you, I hope to get over to Welney in the very near future, that is not too far from Cambridge?

Happy new year and best wishes Richard

  • egads they are packed in like sardines. i recognize most but what was the little grey / brown wading bird near the end? that did not look familiar. good work! that place is loaded with birds.

  • I suggest the wader is a water rail (Rallus aquaticus).

  • @floydstinkyboy The long legs and feet, short upright tail and pot-bellied appearance identify this bird as a rail and its long, pointed, usually red bill tells you immediately which species it is. ;)

  • I know it is a fabulous sight, the wading bird at the end is a Water Rail,

    HNY and best wishes Richard

  • Thanks, the little wading bird at the end is indeed a water rail, there were four there but this filmed at another site

Hope you do not get to much snow

    Best wishes Richard

  • Imprecionante cantidad y variedad de acuaticas, muy bonito.
