I dont know but as far as im concerned the lag issues are simply solved by upgrading java ( and deleting past versions) and the windows client. Not sure if its the same for the log in problem but i bet it is, i got mine updated and i can log in and play normally.

for windows one way to fix it is by deleting your cache 32 in your c: drive and updating your java, it worked for me and may or may not work for you.
