  • I don't know why people are complaining about low fps, it's hardley low, if you think it is too low an fps, then your standards are far too high, if it was getting like 12fps I could understand, but it isn't

  • It seems the PS3 power is only unleashed in exclusive games like Uncharted and GT... 360's hardware can't support it I guess...

    Frame rate is probably limited due to VSYNC. Why would you need 100FPS, when a 60hz television can't use 100 anyway??

    This is not a FPS game anyway, so it doesn't matter.

  • @asomeman1223 Were you missing keys from your keyboard, or are you really that gramatically challenged? Anyway, games journalists don't know jack about driving simulators. They most likely turned on their Xboxes, saw lots of shiny car porn, and awarded it a ten out of ten. Forza will never be half as respected a driving simulator as the Gran Turismo series. As for the number of courses, it's a demo.

  • @DoNultima Nope It's not just you. I think it looks better too. And the time trial does not drive as nice as prologue. feels like your driving on a wet surface all the time!

  • the time trial was just a 203mb demo and it was heavily focused on the physics not the graphics, obviously the real gt5 will have much better graphics

  • See if a game like GT5 could keep a steady framerate, why can't the multiplat games not keep a steady framerate on the PS3. The PS3 framerates are just as good as 360s if not better. Devs just need to spend more time on PS3 versions of the multiplat games. Or use it as a lead platform.

  • This is just amazing. Polyphony Digital, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Kojima Productions and Guerilla Games are pushing console gaming so far in this generation, it's hard to imagine what the PS3 is going to be doing in two or three years.

  • Thanks mate, but I've been reading that in order to max out graphics, they have taken big shortcuts in visuals, like backgrounds, shadows etc. They only look good from a certain angle or something?

  • there are always compromises in games. you have probably been hearing such disastrous reports from the 360 camp no doubt. there is no doubt for me overall GT5p looks the best on any console in 1080p, the london track here is pretty amazing. graphically at least, there isnt likely to be man ymuch better looking racers this gen

  • No, the native resolution for gt5/prologue is 1080 x 1920. you may be thinking of forza.

  • no. the NATIVE resolution is what i said it is. the OUTPUT resolution is 1920 x 1080. you must be thinking of....well whatever it is you are thinking its wrong lol native resolution is the resolution at which the game is rendered internaly, its often not the same as what is actually output by the console., often it ends up upscaled

  • considering that it was a translation from japanese in an interview and TRUE 1080p isnt defined anyway, then i think its safe to say that GT5 will use the same resolution as GT5P. i can pretty much guarantee you now that it will be 1280 x 1080

  • im pretty sure most people here dont understand the difference between native rendered 1920 x 1080 and upscaled 1920 x 1080. just because a console says it is outputting 1080p doesnt actually mean that is what the game is running at. in fact few games actually do. in fact most run less than half that resolution. thats is why i game on PC. because it can actualyl do full 1080, and the difference is pretty big

  • gt5p runs in true 1080p and so will gt5. 1080p is just 1080 progressively scanned horizontal lines. running a resolution of 1920x1080 on your pc monitor doesn't mean it's true hd because it's not a progressively scanned line, it's interlaced.

  • GT5p runs 1280 x 1080. this isnt hard to understand. google for GT5p 'native resolution.' look on beyond3d forums. ps3 then takes that resolution, scales the horizontal resolution across the screen to make it 1920 x 1080. ps3's hardware scaler works horizontally. when people say it runs 1920 x 1080, they do not seem to understand that it is upscaled. MGS4 for example actually runs 1024 x 768 natively. whatever you may see output on the HDTV screen is going to be upcaled...

  • i think the whole thing runs 1080p, but with no AA (the ps3 cant do aa and HDr so HDR is usually chosen), so it looks a lot worse.

  • meh. GT5 needs to match forza for damage, or it'll be offline only racing for me, and jump on forza with my mates for the online fun. all i ever wanted was an online GT and damage. without it forza will be the more complete game, even with less content

  • Forza is doing alot better for the community though and people within the community are becoming a part of Forza and helping improve on it. I have both Prologue and Forza1/2. Forza 3 is bring back Touge/Mountain racing witch is awesome and alot of people were hoping they would bring it back after it wasn't in 2. The online on Prologue is so dumb that people bump u hard in the ass in corners and send u flying into the walls for a penalty and u car has to slow down and they just pass you. Also Lag

  • GT5 needs to move forward anyway. forza 3 has flippable cars and full damage, which online is EXTREMELY important cos frankly GT5p was pants online, bumper cars no skill. if Gt5 doesnt implement full damage to every car (not just the rumoured race cars only damage) then forza 3 will be even further ahead for me, and im a major GT fan

  • the GT5 trailer shows one rally car, having slight nose deformation. what with the rumours still saying its only the licensed race cdars that will suffer damage i can wait til the game launches before deciding how any damage engine works out. all i know is thta it must HAVE a damage engine for ALL cars, like forza. otherwise racing online will be next to pointless and dull like it was in prologue, as everyone just wall rode and shunted each other all the time

  • being a sony developer, polyphony will always have the best technical support and understanding of the complex ps3 hardware. from a tech standpoint, this is probably the best console racer. i love GT, but i am getting exceptionally tired of waiting for GT5, ps3 is now over two years old. polyphony do need to hurry this up a bit, as ps3 is sorely lacking in a triple A signature race sim. forza 2, and 3 will be out before GT5, like gears 1 and 2 before KZ2. not acceptable anymore

  • In this video you didnt use the incar view during the test. That camera angle usually has severe effects on FPS. I allways play with the view from the cockpit and i notice low FPS at some turns in the Eiger Nordwand track if theres cars around.

  • Replays are 1440x1080 vs 1280x1080 in-game. There are also far more video effects used in the replay.

    My opinion is that the game should run at 30fps and keep these effects. At 60fps, without any effects that are prominant in Dirt and other racers, it just looks too clean for this generation and defeats all the detail they put into the game. In fact, this video makes it feel more realistic.

    It doesn't feel as photo realistic as the trailers or replays, and at 60 fps, the hard edge shadows kind of defeat the photo realism the soft hand crafted shadows of 3 and 4 created.

  • This youtube video doesn't do justiice to what you actually get when you play this game on a relatively large 1080p screen. Still, I'm pretty sure by the time GT5 is done, the gfx improvement will be quite substantial.

  • GT5p looks good but... I feel that it lacks something. I understand flamebite POV and I think that there is a gap between cars and tracks models. I play GT5P in 1080p mode but when I tried in 480p, The game suddenly got a lot more blurry and less shiny but also got a more photo-realistic feel, more homogenous. I don't know why exactly, maybe you see the lack of polygons in tracks when you are running @ 1080p it feels a bit like having gt4 tracks in HD with super rendered cars...

  • Polyphony are very skilled indeed. Just look at what they did with gt3 and gt4.

    On this level I only notice tear on the second to last corner. It's hardly a problem in this game compared to many other console games.

  • I have to say this is highly impressive of the PS3/Polyphony. With these amazing graphics one wouldn't expect a console to even manage "1080p" - but it even stays at 60FPS all the time - except for a drop to 54FPS, which is still a lot of FPS.

    I would like to see someone pull of a shooter in 1080p that looks this good and runs at 60FPS. Like that's gonna happen :p Polyphony are skilled at what they do, clearly! :)
