W J Julian. No periods, with spaces. And he did not WRITE the circle drills, he hired people to do it. And there are vaults of old circle drill charts in storage at UT. The "flower drill" is in this video from 1985: watch?v=Gcqf-53bnEs
This is so awesome. Gotta love the original halftime show devoted to all the Circle Drill moves that have been in place since the 60s. Unless I am mistaken, this actual halftime show was written by one John Martin, who took all the drill moves that Dr. Julian created and put it into one halftime show.
I was saying its cool to see this one which is an older version of the one I marched in 2004, and btw the one in 2004 was a product of John T. Martin.
WJ Julian (no periods, no spaces) was one of the most influential people in my life... period! You don't have any video of him conducting that you could post do you??? I think a lot of people have forgotten that what exists now was originated by him.
As a corollary, kudos to Dr. Sousa for maintaining the band in the same tradition and spirit of Dr. Julian.
i am sorry i dont have any videos of him conducting because it is all vhs and dr. sousa is great but he just is very repetitive
my family put periods and spaces between wj cuz we believe it stands for william something im afraid my grandfather doesnt know either why his name is wj so we just call him Jay which is my name
Cool, I always wondered what the older versions of circle drill were like!! You don't by chance have any older versions of pregame do you like pre 9-11-01?
