I got into these people about a week after they last played in Chicago. Which was the last time they played in Chicago, ever. Dammit I hate it when that happens.
I'm a big KC fan, but sorry... SGM has moved beyond Crimson in technical brilliance and spirit. I'll also say that there isn't another show on earth with the intensity of SGM... Maybe old idiot flesh shows, but I never had the pleasure of attending one.
Idiot Flesh may be doing reunion shows, but what's more guaranteed is the unfinished album being, well, finished. Reunion shows would be something to drop everything and head to Oakland for.
KC were amazing for their time and still are no doubt about it, but this is beyond crimson technically I think. KC themselves would not want anyone conservatively putting down new bands as ripping off old ones. Sleepytime are their own band, and a damn skilled one.
that's true only if your definition of "complexity" is cramming in as many beats per measure as possible. otherwise, unexpect are pretty standard scandinavian-type death metal with a hint of gypsy. interesting, but it gets old.
and the 9-string bass cannot touch the dulcimer sledgehammer.
i was thinking more in the different dinamics and melodies simultaniously
btw theres nothing wrong with scanvinavian music, its by far the best [generalizing] music i've heard son far.
Unexpect would be starndard if u hear every instrument at a time, its true, but the combination makes them one of the most authentic band nowadays. and by far one of the most original AND TALENTED [and the 9s bass is way better than a dulcimer dude xD]
let's cast aside for now the fact that SGM use sophisticated, layered melodies, harmonies and time changes. from a purely conceptual standpoint, SGM are the more original band. they fuse elements of jazz, metal, industrial, prog, folk, and some others i have yet to identify. unexpect -- like i said: death metal, gypsy. period. i've never seen unexpect live, but from what i've seen on youtube, i can almost guarantee they don't put half the care that SGM puts into theirs.

UneXpect is pretty cool, but it lacks personality, all there songs were expected. STGM has ALOT of feeling. i feel UneXpect lacks it.

I think it's unfair to compare Unexpect and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, but I might just be saying that because I'm fanatic about both bands. :D

just so there's no confusion, my previous post was in response to the guy who said unexpect have better "complexity" than SGM.
