  • I got into these people about a week after they last played in Chicago. Which was the last time they played in Chicago, ever. Dammit I hate it when that happens.

  • You will be sorely missed. One of the greatest bands in my book.

  • 4:20-- 5:40 ....... How is that even possible?!?! SGM= the best live band in the history of metal, period.

  • If I don't count sheep, I play this song before I sleep !!

  • Sittin here smiling at the Youtube. Ahhhh... Gawd I luv these guys. <3

  • This song is fucking evil

  • @lenesu86 yeah but, like in the fun way

  • I've watched 5:32 about 20 times now...absolutely amazing !

  • incredible band

  • These guys are just fookin' brilliant.

  • I'm a big KC fan, but sorry... SGM has moved beyond Crimson in technical brilliance and spirit. I'll also say that there isn't another show on earth with the intensity of SGM... Maybe old idiot flesh shows, but I never had the pleasure of attending one.

  • Idiot Flesh may be doing reunion shows, but what's more guaranteed is the unfinished album being, well, finished. Reunion shows would be something to drop everything and head to Oakland for.

  • nice to see quality us of theator in music still being used.

  • King Crimson was doing this kind of music 40 years ago.

  • KC were amazing for their time and still are no doubt about it, but this is beyond crimson technically I think. KC themselves would not want anyone conservatively putting down new bands as ripping off old ones. Sleepytime are their own band, and a damn skilled one.

  • yeah, too bad this is a mix between zappa and theator.

  • be still my heart <3

  • I love the dissonance, it's so chaotic.

  • Carla is so kick ass.

  • this is fucking godlike.

  • As long as you like the idea of a tiny lizard wearing a tiny crown being our god, yes.

  • This is not just a band. Its an astro-phenomenon.

  • lolzlolz

  • UneXpect is pretty cool, but it lacks personality, all there songs were expected. STGM has ALOT of feeling. i feel UneXpect lacks it.

  • I think it's unfair to compare Unexpect and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, but I might just be saying that because I'm fanatic about both bands. :D

  • just so there's no confusion, my previous post was in response to the guy who said unexpect have better "complexity" than SGM.

  • DAMN!!

    these guys are bADASS musicians!!

    COMPLETE GENIUS!!

  • These guys are insane live! We shot their show at the Bowery Ballroom last spring. Check out my profile to watch the video!

  • thank you for posting this

  • So Buennnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • that was nice... but i think uneXpect are much much better....the have catchier songs and in general better melodies and complexity

  • that's true only if your definition of "complexity" is cramming in as many beats per measure as possible. otherwise, unexpect are pretty standard scandinavian-type death metal with a hint of gypsy. interesting, but it gets old.

and the 9-string bass cannot touch the dulcimer sledgehammer.

  • i was thinking more in the different dinamics and melodies simultaniously

btw theres nothing wrong with scanvinavian music, its by far the best [generalizing] music i've heard son far.

Unexpect would be starndard if u hear every instrument at a time, its true, but the combination makes them one of the most authentic band nowadays. and by far one of the most original AND TALENTED [and the 9s bass is way better than a dulcimer dude xD]

  • let's cast aside for now the fact that SGM use sophisticated, layered melodies, harmonies and time changes. from a purely conceptual standpoint, SGM are the more original band. they fuse elements of jazz, metal, industrial, prog, folk, and some others i have yet to identify. unexpect -- like i said: death metal, gypsy. period. i've never seen unexpect live, but from what i've seen on youtube, i can almost guarantee they don't put half the care that SGM puts into theirs.

  • I've seen both recently, and STGM puts on a better show by far. Way more feeling into theirs.

  • That was the most awesome livething i've ever seen!!

  • Noisey fulks, but one of my big favs up there with King Crimson & t00l...

  • AMAZING BAND!

I like very much his kind of music.Rock in oposition rulz!

  • great band can't wait to see them live.

  • sa déchirrrreeeeeeeuuuuhhhhhh

  • good but i think unexpect is twice as good live

  • No-one comes close to UneXpect, live or otherwise.

  • Holy shit... This is AMAZING.

  • carla sounds a little congested. still ... wow.

  • thanks for posting, grant. i have yet to see them live.

  • Yay! Almost as good as the real thing. SGM puts on the best show I've ever seen. Go see them live. Seriously. Right now. Go. Thanks, Stem.

  • Will do!
