There is also the public stigmata about male sex offenders being worse than females. There's a serious problem with a "justice" system, when a 16 year old who had consensual sex with a girl who lied to him about her age (said she was 15, when she was really 12) gets sentenced to 60 years in prison, while a guy in his 30s who forcibly raped a girl for 4 years starting when she was 7 gets a measly 8 year sentence.

This kind of controversy exists because American culture has used the force of arbitrary law to unnaturally extend the age of "childhood" to the age of 16, 18, or even 21. Should children be protected from the aggressive predation of malevolent adults? Absolutely. Clearly. Black and white - Right and wrong. There is also the public stigmata about male sex offenders being worse than females. So people are less likely to convict females of molesting children, but when a man comes along charged with a similar offense (even if he is truly innocent), a jury is more likely to enter a guilty verdict. That's why the pedo witch hunt has gone too far.

The biggest problem I see with the sex offender registries is that they lump the guy who got caught peeing in public together with the violent serial rapist.
There's a serious problem with a "justice" system, when a 16 year old who had consensual sex with a girl who lied to him about her age (said she was 15, when she was really 12) gets sentenced to 60 years in prison, while a guy in his 30s who forcibly raped a girl for 4 years starting when she was 7 gets a measly 8 year sentence.

Moreover it was CONSENTUAL! Something to consider is that in Europe, the median age of consent is about 15 and there are FEWER problems there! This kind of controversy exists because American culture has used the force of arbitrary law to unnaturally extend the age of "childhood" to the age of 16, 18, or even 21. Should children be protected from the aggressive predation of malevolent adults? Absolutely. Clearly. Black and white - Right and wrong. Should older teenagers who willingly and knowingly behave as adults (for good or bad) be treated like children who are incapable of thought or consent? That's more of a gray area.
