Last thing now: you seem to be wasting some energy in the extravagant movements of your slapping hand. This will become a hindrance if you don't address it now. Be smoooth and slick: emulate your heroes and the masters.

Left hand wants sorting out. Thumb in the middle of the back of the neck and fingertips coming down vertically onto the note you choose is the way, otherwise you give yourself no options and reduce your mobility.

Next thing: the timing. Fundamentally important of course. Again no problem here as you hold it down well: you're obviously focussing on the track. i try to check in with the rhythm at least once a bar.

Can't comment on the slap as it's not my forte and I can't hear the detail but visually you do seem to be holding the pocket.

I play bass and I think the reason most of the dislikes are here is because of the tone and mix of the vid's audio: it sounds muted, muddy, and awful. So it takes away from your riffs and grooves, which are good. Find a better way to record the audio with your camera. Right now you have a terrible audio setup. But this is a process, and it is ongoing. Good playing.

I dont know why you're getting all the dislikes. There are a different recommendations on where to put your thumb depending on how you are playing. For example, look into the floating thumb technique. As far as the finger picking/slapping goes, it should be more pronounced. When you go into slapping, its hard to hear what you are doing. You cant shy away from the notes, play the hell outta them! And you had a good sense of timing for the most part and that is more important than anything else.

You have an ok/good slap pop style, but you really need to work on your fingerstyle. I agree with KoRnithemaster about placing your thumb on the pickup because you have a stable and stronger hand, without wasting energy on dragging your whole hand to pluck a string.

You've got a great bass guitar, a Musicman Stingray, but that is'nt slap. You're using the thumb, and popping, but not in the correctly way. You just thumb over the end of the bridge, and sometimes do some pops. As KoRnithemaster said, you just do like you're doing slap, but in fact, you're convining in a deliverate way some bass techniques, making a similar slap sound with it. Keep improving your skills dude, ;P

Continue to practice and check out all the free materail availble on Youtube. Timing is everything. Techique comes with time, but keep at it, try to get good tone and be contious what the drums are doing. Play wiht real drumms too. That can help you expand. Well, I agree that having the thumb rest on the pick-up is fine, but its not the only one. You can always rest it on one of the lower strings as well. Also, don't forget the floating thumb approach either. This comes in handy especially when your playng a 6 string bass, for example. It acts as a mute to cut out alot of the unwanted noise you get from other strings. The thumb is constatnly moving as you are playing the strings, hence the name. It just kinda floats around.

His slapping technique is fine, and it's pretty tight. People can sit their thumb wherever they want provided they can play smoothly and be able to mute the strings enough. I anchor my thumb on the strings, not the pickup, and some people play with a floating thumb. Please post a video, I'd love to criticise it.

Try a book called 'Ultimate Slap bass' by Stuart Clayton, check out his website bassline publishing. Your moving in the right direction, but some pointers would make it so much easier for you. Keep playing, anything worth doing takes effort.

Like Dom said below me, more economy with the left hand. Also, develop your own style and check out bass guitars that are more versatile. Flea is a good player, but he's not the best and his tone isn't fantastic. Judging from how you are playing with your right hand you probably need to lower the action. Just take it to a local guitar shop and ask for an action set up. You should never have to lift your hand that far off the fretboard to slap. Check out some monsters like Marcus Miller as well.
