I'm sure shawn lane would see tosin and say "wow, this guy is really awesome and I like the innovative techniques he's using". that's what separates talented people like tosin and shawn from likeyoucare. they don't give a fuck about if someone is "better than them" and they don't bitch about it. they get better instead of being a cunt.
@MrDeftone1 It's supposed to be more comfortable to play. It supposedly fits right up against the player, and the neck is at the perfect angle to keep the shoulders and wrists relaxed. You can't have looks and extreme comfort unfortunately. Tosin says it's comfortable and plays great, so in my opinion, there's nothing else that really matters, other than the player's comfort and playability.
@espalexi666 They are designed with ergonomics in mind as opposed to looks ie they are designed to sound utterly amazing and almost play themselves. They are carved and shaped so they don't jab you when playing, and allow fretboard access wherever.
@b1gm3dahun I`m talkin aesthetically, however thats all subjective, his guitars always sound like angels and his playing is godlike, but i dont find those guitars pretty IMO
That's my opinion, asshole. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean I'm trolling. You fucking little kiddies don't even know the definition of "troll".
@Likeyoucare So you just watch videos of emotionless wanks? And for the guitar god thing, please show me other people that do what he does, because he is amazing and I'd love to get me some more of this fantastic music.
No, this video came up recommended to another video so I left a comment. Jason Becker, Shawn Lane. Both are far superior guitar players who also have emotion in every piece they play.
@Likeyoucare Alright now I know, when I first read your comment it sounded like you were just trolling. And as far as I know he isn't put on a pedestal because of the emotion he puts into his music, he's regarded highly because he is extremely technical and flawless and has an amazing approach to the guitar. Personally I've never heard music like the music he puts out. I'm eager to hear your recommendations though.
Sure he's technical, but technicality doesn't make good music. His "music" feels less like a song and more like some guitar talent show set to a backing track. That's just my opinion, I know you feel differently. I'm not trolling or deliberately trying to piss people off, I just think everyone should be able to speak their opinion whether for or against something. Try "Perspective" and "Powers of Ten" by Jason and Shawn respectively.
@Likeyoucare yeah weve all heard it a million times what people like you say haha just go away because really no one who is a animals as leaders fan wants to know your opinion..simple as that..not only is tosin a MASTER and or VIRTUOSO on guitar, his music is extremely moving..its not at all like a "talent show" as you call it..so yeah everyone has opinions, but just dont comment ignorant shit because you know youre gonna get people to reply back
@Likeyoucare Alright dude, "wankery", thats what it is..you're right..fucking wankery, whatever the fuck that stupid ass word means..hey im psychic, did you know that? lemme prove it...You listened to the first 30 seconds of CAFO, and IMMEDIATELY got a stereotypically Ballbrain Cockameme opinion that Tosin is "robotic" and "Repetitive" and "no feeling and soul"...EHHHHH wrong bitch..lmao hes a guitar virtuoso and if you dot like prog metal then thats your ballsack of an opinion..good day asshat
@Likeyoucare its just another type of music, and it has its own way of having feeling..ill tell you what man on top of tosin being a beyond amazing guitar player, when i listen to his music with headphones it sets a mood like no other music has ever done..like an other-worldly type of mood..thats feeling to me..and go listen to his real jazzy stuff like "Modern Meat" and "Tessitura"..and stop being a close minded fool..prog is one of the most talented genres of music out there
@Likeyoucare wait...im totally convinced youre a troll now looking at the music you upload...like what the fuck dude..haha I'm not commenting anymore because I know you're a troll but you had me goin there broseph, nice try
Are you afraid of what real metal sounds like? Stay away from the real stuff and keep listening to your shitty prog that consists of little more than jerking the guitar off.
@Likeyoucare Oh, did I insult you? I feel so bad. Go fuck yourself, ass wipe. 1. Take the dick out of your whore mouth. 2. replace with gun. 3. pull trigger. those are the steps to making this world a better place. Good luck bitch.
@Likeyoucare If you don't like the music then just get the fuck out. Nobody's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to listen to AAL (although, I think somebody should, it would be the perfect punishment for an asshole like you). Go listen to whatever the fuck music you want and stop insulting other peoples' musical tastes. You're not convincing anybody to not like AAL, you're just stirring up a pointless argument.
@Likeyoucare I just listened to some Shawn Lane, and he and Tosin aren't that different. Tosin does some jazzy stuff, and both are extremely talented. Shawn just sets a slightly different mood than Tosin does.
They are extremely different. Shawn Lane played Jazz/blues styled shred, while Tosin play Meshuggah rip off riffs set to repetitive sweeps that sound robotic.
@Likeyoucare Tosin doesn't play in repetitive sweeps and Meshuggah riffs at all, I don't really understand. A large portion of what he plays is clean in tone because HE HAS A MASTERS in jazz a la Shaun Lane (but with an education). He kind of switched between the two, I read in an interview. Both great guitar players, though, troll.
He doesn't expand on any themes in that song, but thanks for proving that he does repetitiously play sweeps/tapping throughout the song. As I've said before, it sounds like a guitar talent show and has no sense of being an actual song.
Is an artist's entire works to be described by a single song? Or have you not listened any further? And who are you to decide what constitutes a song? What're your credentials?
@Likeyoucare 100 other guitar techniques? Check. You're generalizing the fuck out of him and it just doesn't make sense as an argument. Sweeps are an rudimentary advanced technique and "Meshuggah" chugging riffs are a very basic technique, he does bothwell. I really can't imagine that he'd have trouble playing anything that Shaun Lane, Robert Fripp, Steve Vai, etc. are able to play. He clearly has the techniques down, if you're a guitar player you should know that that is all that is necessary.
@Likeyoucare Can you just fuck off please, you arrogant tool? Go spew your trolling nonsense somewhere else. This is pitiful. Who the fuck trolls on YouTube anyway, of all possible places?
@Likeyoucare At first I thought you were trolling but now I know more so I'm not mad at all, and I remember my guitar teacher introducing me to both Shawn Lane and Tosin Abasi. My tastes have grown more towards the metal/progressive genre so I think it was just natural that I gravitated more towards Tosin. If I may ask how much have you listened to Animals as Leaders? Because in this video I think he's just doing practices or warm ups.
I've heard enough to form an opinion. CAFO is the epitome of everything wrong with the band, the repetitious sweeping intro that sounds like robots grinding up and down the strings. I haven't heard a single AAL song that could match anything Shawn had ever done.
@Likeyoucare To each his own, I like what Tosin does, I like what Shawn does. It seems you have enough on your plate with all the backlash in the comments so I will say good day to you and it was good discussing music with you. I'm sorry about all the attacks.
at least you're trying to have a conversation unlike ass these butthurt "you're a troll!" people. You can't even give your opinion on anything anymore without being called a fucking troll.
@Likeyoucare Talent show? no no no no no, your talking about Angel Vivaldi, Vai, Satch, Yngwei or however the fuck you spell it, Cooley. they dont write songs, they write MELODIES and put backing traks on it. Tosin writes songs. there is not one AAL song that is purely lead. not one. his music is built like any other song just without lyrics
@Likeyoucare and btw, shawn lane was fucking one of the top 10's of guitar gods, but as much as you disagree, tosin is pretty much the future of progressive metal/fusion type guitar playing..Steve Vai even said hes the "future of guitar"..dont be ignorant, aal is chock full of emotion and virtuosity, so listen to tosin more and dont be closed minded
Which means we're going to get even more soulless wankery shred fags. There's no emotion in his playing, it's robotic sweeps just repetitious going while the band plays some unnoticeable backing track.
@Likeyoucare wtf you are a disgrace to Shawn Lane & Jason Becker by keep mentioning them. Acting like a pretentious-hipster and keep comparing each musician/artists doesn't make you looks cool, seriously. Both Shawn & Jason would be ashamed to having an immature & narrow-minded fan like you. A typical & generic music snob.
@Vildbrusj it's a matter of preference and taste, Scale The Summit's music & arrangement are more melodic and easier to appreciate, in terms of technique & complexity, Tosin (AAL) is way more mature and creative. Tosin has better 'jazz/fusion' esque, another couple years and he'll be up there with guys like Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe or Allan Holdsworth. Try to learn their songs and then compare. i'd prefer Paul Masvidal & Paul Waggoner than Chris Letchford & Travis Levrier though
man at first I was like "WATCH OUT TOSIN THERE'S A CRACKED OUT SPIDER ON YOUR GUITAR" and then I heard "bloopitybloopybloopityneenerneeenerbloopidty(arpeggio arpeggio arpeggio)" and I was like "aww... haha you got me."
I was hoping you could help me here. I'm aspiring to do scale runs in more interesting ways. I noticed in your performance of "Wave of Babies" which is a SICK tune by the way, in the EMG studio that you do some gnarly runs. I was just curious as to what the hell is going on there basically. :)
...a response would mean more than you'll ever know.
I knew I had heard those sweeps at 1:16 before but I couldn't put my finger on it; I finally realized that it was actually Endeavor by his side project T. R. A. M.
The fusion of Jazz and Metal never ceases to annoy me. I appreciate beautiful harmonies more than showing off scales, signatures, and chord inversions. I will give props though, Tosin is an amazing guitarist.
@TheW4RP1G Yeah, pretty much what this guy said. I find the combination really tacky, but I happen to really enjoy Tosin's guitarwork. He seems like a pretty fucking chill guy, too.
@mickey007r The tuners are behind the tailpiece instead of on the head! They need to be able to roll through the bridge in order to be tuned on the other side.
i get it that itsa headstock less guitar but why are the tuners of the wood and positioned on that bar/pole is it done sound wise, for ergonomic purposes or for cosmetics
It's called a fan fret. It has quite a few advantages and disadvantages. I'd google it if I was you as it is too large a topic to explain in a youtube comment
I mad, I asked Tosin if he could show me the inamorata riff he plays at the end and he told me he forgot it b/c its an old song and theres no tabs for it :((
@EzAbstract About your post 1 month ago that you wanted to learn the inamorata riff but that Tosin himself forgot it (XD), I actually went on 911 tabs and found a guitar pro file of the complete song, and it's sick how it sounds right even for the shreddiest parts, the guy that figured that out by ear must be amazing :O
So, if you are interested, I can send you the file or you can go seek it yourself.
What is the song around 0:30?

Super skills, but don't like any of his stuff musically. It just sounds stupid, and I guess the fact I hate djent does not help :P

@JobForAMaxboy which bring us to the question: what are you doing here?

I kinda wanna see him do a slap cover of Super Mario :P
TheSTRIKE4220 3 months ago
I was hoping you could help me here. I'm aspiring to do scale runs in more interesting ways. I noticed in your performance of "Wave of Babies" which is a SICK tune by the way, in the EMG studio that you do some gnarly runs. I was just curious as to what the hell is going on there basically. :)
...a response would mean more than you'll ever know.
Take care,

I knew I had heard those sweeps at 1:16 before but I couldn't put my finger on it; I finally realized that it was actually Endeavor by his side project T. R. A. M.

The fusion of Jazz and Metal never ceases to annoy me. I appreciate beautiful harmonies more than showing off scales, signatures, and chord inversions. I will give props though, Tosin is an amazing guitarist.
TheW4RP1G 4 months ago
@TheW4RP1G Yeah, pretty much what this guy said. I find the combination really tacky, but I happen to really enjoy Tosin's guitarwork. He seems like a pretty fucking chill guy, too.

anyone can tell me whats up with his tailpiece?
mickey007r 4 months ago
@mickey007r The tuners are behind the tailpiece instead of on the head! They need to be able to roll through the bridge in order to be tuned on the other side.
FakeSidewalks 4 months ago
@FakeSidewalks thanks for the reply.
i get it that itsa headstock less guitar but why are the tuners of the wood and positioned on that bar/pole is it done sound wise, for ergonomic purposes or for cosmetics
mickey007r 4 months ago
I pretty much came all over my own face when he starts sweeping at 1:16

I was at a guitar show yesterday and the frets on this guitar were just like that in the video. Why are all the frets slanted? Is it beneficial?
KimbroughBand 4 months ago
@KimbroughBand
It's called a fan fret. It has quite a few advantages and disadvantages. I'd google it if I was you as it is too large a topic to explain in a youtube comment

I mad, I asked Tosin if he could show me the inamorata riff he plays at the end and he told me he forgot it b/c its an old song and theres no tabs for it :((
EzAbstract 4 months ago
@EzAbstract About your post 1 month ago that you wanted to learn the inamorata riff but that Tosin himself forgot it (XD), I actually went on 911 tabs and found a guitar pro file of the complete song, and it's sick how it sounds right even for the shreddiest parts, the guy that figured that out by ear must be amazing :O
So, if you are interested, I can send you the file or you can go seek it yourself.

HA! 15watt practice amp! You can hear the pick/string noise louder than the amp noise when he's strumming. Good times.
