  • i thought shawns vault was just as good they both had slight little problems on their landings

  • cheng is THE only gymnast in nowadays to perform clean twists. legs glued together, straight knees.. they should giver her credit for it. she deserved better than 16.

  • it was the same because she did not stick a clean landing. She almost lost her balance and so she tried not to fall.

  • what about shawn's huge step on her landing????

  • Her salute was so beautiful - worthy of a champion

  • can cheng fei still do her own cheng vault? i hope she comes back to compete again at some point, i know shes been battling injuries lately :(

  • she's still recovering and taking some time off gymnastics. right now she's at university, but she's not retired yet :)

  • I guess comparing Fei and Shawn's Amanars is like comparing Alicia's and Oksana's Atlers (misindentified as a Chusovitina). Alicia gets more height and keeps the leg form through the air but Chusovitina gets about 6 inches less height and goes 2 ft farther, but with shoddy leg form and feet are far apart on landing, though their scores are separated by 0.025-0.050.

  • sorry I think it was in floor

  • 15,425

  • what was the score

  • cheng fei and shawn a score is the same.. but why??

she is MUCH better than shawn

    i just love her

  • I agree Cheng's looks so much better but where Cheng gets extra points for height, Shawn gets them for distance, they both had equal deductions for landing, small hop/small step.

  • a-score is based on difficulty not execution. If they do the same vault then obviously the a-score will be the same

  • @agathayy i think it was because she landed with really bent knees and then took a hop, but it does look 100 times better than shawn's did.

  • I don't understand how cheng's and shawn's vault scored the exact same during the team final. cheng's was executed much better

  • What I don't understand is how Fei's almost perfect Amanar only scored a 16.075 in the EF and people have the nerve to say that Alicia's oh so lovely piked Rudi deserved the bronze medal.

  • I think Cheng Fei's Amanar in the EF was even better than she did in prelim, where she scored a 16.150 in prelim.

  • Agreed, but I think that the judging panel in prelims was somewhat looser than in the TF, AA and EF.

  • @alexgym09 That's what I was wondering also...

  • That was amazing; it had everything, the height, the difficulty, the form, the landing (apart from squat)

I was so dissapointed that she didnt medal in the vault event finals!

  • her face at 0.25 looks like, "ouch that hurt my knees like hell to land that!"

  • 1. the score was correct

    2. she slightly underotated

    3. deep squat you wannna get technical lets get techinal

  • Yeah I agree, score was accurate. She twisted into the ground, she didn't complete the twist in the air. Then there's the squat on the landing and the hop. 16.000 is a good score for all of that.

  • See coach Lu shanzhen? He is so excited to see Cheng Fei's success.

  • The landing sounded like it may have hurt...of course, most landings in this sport are painful...and with the speed at which she's twisting I can't imagine. Gorgeous vault.

  • Two things to say here:

    1. With the perfect form she had throughout, a score of 16 was severely undervaluing this vault.

    2. Don't expect a feather landing at the end of a vault with 2.5 twists and 1.5 flips. The thumping is the sound of her landing on the mattress, which wouldn't be much different if you just jumped off the table with your bare feet.

  • Um, yes, thank you, Captain Obvious. I am not so dense that I can't imagine where the sound came from. And I would never expect a feather landing on any skill in gymnastics...I remember how those landings feel; they're painful whether it's done correctly or not.

  • drsarcasmus, I agree that a 16 was too low

shawn johnson got the same score on that same day with more execution errors than cheng fei: the cross over step and she twists way too early, she does a quarter turn coming onto the horse which is technique error

  • Well, it's just such a good job she twists so quickly and afficiently! Her block was Incerdibely HUGE; but, she almost wated too long before she started to twist. If you pause the video on her second turn, you will see that she's facing the floor and about 4 foot away. The last half twist was smashed in, way to go! I have to say- good save, beautfiul height to, breathtaking!!!

  • She looks so concentrated and mature! Beautiful!

  • I would like to add..I love the expression she made after the landing. That's what i like about her;she doesn't try to hide her emotions.A truly genuine person..

I will shut up now :))

  • She is so focused. The landing was superb!!!CHeng Fei,you are the best!!!!

  • Wow, the height....wow! LOL She is my favorite Chinese gymnast since Mo Hulian.

  • Agreed I loved Mo!

  • Such speed and height! She is amazing!

  • You know i didnt even have to check to see if you were a fellow American. I just knew it. Always about how hot Nastasia is. Or Fei's tits and ass.

  • ok dude i didn't say anything about nastia and it's true that her boobs did get bigger i respect her for being a kickass gymnast cuz i'm a gymnast but why can't people just let other people be attracted to her without making such a big deal

  • you know what, i think li xiaoshuang is a hottie! hehe..i would bend for him if he likes!

  • lol, really? Many think he is gay looking:)

  • Love it!!! This is the routine that was named after her right?

  • No, this is an Amanar vault named after Simona Amanar of Romania.

The other vault Cheng Fei does is named after her.

  • Oh okay, thanks for clarifying it!!! :D

  • what is the cheng vault?

  • Cheng Fei is a round off half turn onto the horse into a layout 1 1/2 twist off.

  • isn't that similar to a vault introduced by khorkina in the 2000 olympics? I know it was some round off half turn with some twisting afterwards.

  • Yes Khorkina did it in a tucked position, Cheng Fei does it a layout position making it harder.
