Probably because it provided a better camera shot. It evens him with the other two. If he had the mike at the level it should be, there'd be big spaces above the other two's heads when filmed.
Hum, maybe most of them don't know English well enough to sing in English. I mean, I can bum through some Spanish but there is no way I could sing in it.
It's not what they should do...Watch Mary in the second minute trying to get them to sing along-- listen when PP&M stop singing so they'll sing along- the quiet is deafening. I'm not criticizing them- that's maybe just the Japanese culture responding, but if there's a SHOULD here, maybe MORE of them SHOULD sing along LOUDER. At the PP & M concert I attended, they joked that they could play the opening 6 bars and the audience would sing the rest of the song while they sat there.
Mary has been a suffering from bone marrow cancer for many years and is unable to travel . On her web I read that she finally receinved a bone marrow transfer and is doing well. God Bless Her and her recovery!
I wonder when they stopped doing world-wide tours (like to Japan). Today (2009) they only do tours on the eastern coast of the United States (Thank God I live there); but in 1990 they were in Japan.
You're lucky you live in the East of the U.S. I live in the middle of the country and I love PPM. I would imagine they stopped touring long distances because of Mary's health. And perhaps because they ARE getting older - but I sure wish they'd come here again.
To most of us, in greater Asia who hv not captured the "PPM reality" (except in CDs, records n tapes), not until this YouTube tech came into being - will enjoy to the max, the PPM revelation..cskwan, how do we thank thee?

Why did the tall guy always have a mike that was down too low?

Mary passed away.
It was when I was a lad of ten or eleven that I had met her voice for the first time.
Since then she had been living in my blood.

the audience is JUST SITTING THERE-- how sad. Maybe that's good manners in Japan, but it's missing the whole point of PP&M-- involvement..
Good bye, Mary...

They're SINGING ALONG IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE! What should they do, dance and wave their cigarette lighters?
